I have mentioned these some of these setups before but wanted to put them into one location.
Some Basic Thoughts
Domination POS's give bonus's to arty. Arty is very useful in that it hits with two or more types of damage. So if you use two types of rounds like Phased Plasma and EMP you will be hitting across multiple damage types which is harder for ships to harden against. Factional POS's also take less time to anchor or un-anchor and they give 20% increase in shield/armor/structure hit points. Factional batteries also have that 20% increase as well but they also take less cpu/grid so you are able to have more batteries online helping to protect your POS.
Make sure that whatever you are going to have at your POS is anchored and full of ammo. If POS is put into reinforcement you will NOT be able to put more ammo into your batteries. You can anchor batteries if in reinforcement but you can't put ammo in them till shields go back above 50%. Which doesn't help you at all when those Caps come back to kill off the POS when the timer runs out. Anchor all extra batteries and just have them offline with full ammo.
The basic setup below is how POS is setup normally. Since you might not be around when attacked you want to have your resists very high. These setups give you a 50/43/43/43 resist across the board. Hopefully someone in corp will see that the POS is under attack and get things organized for your defense. Then you offline the three hardeners and bring online the rest of your batteries to kill ships. Your resists will then be 50/25/25/25.
POS Defense Thoughts You can control as many batteries as you have people with the Starbase Defense Management skills. Theoretically you could have 15-20 people there controlling batteries for various functions. I would have them broken into two groups. The ECM group and the Killer Group. You should have them on separate vent channels so they can talk to each other and not be stepping on each other. And these channels should be separate from the Cap Fleet in system to help protect the POS. (Again less confusion)
ECM Group ECM group is to take out the support ships. They should only be able to see the logistical ships and possibly the command ships in the overview. This way there is less confusion for them. Each ECM is for a different type of ship so they will have to know what their type ECM goes with which ship.
Killer Group There does need to be a leader of the Killen Group to call out primary Cap ships and secondary BS ships. The 3 Neuts need to suck the cap from the Dreads and once done then the Batteries start hitting. Once cap is drained the 2 Neuts start on another cap ship while the one stays on target making sure cap doesnÆt come back. Once the Cap is killed that Nuet joins the other two and so on.
Medium Batteries Group Medium Batteries should work in conjunction with the Warp Disruptor/Webber. The people controlling them need to æcatchÆ the ships and then call out to the other medium battery operators to focus fire till dead. Then move onto the next ship.
The leader of the POS Batteries should be able to hear what the FC of the fleet is doing as well. They can then be directing the Warp Disruptor/Webber batteries to catch and kill ships.

We used a setup very similar to one of these. It was attacked and managed to hold its own long enough for us to get an entire fleet in system.
Very good setups! Bookmarked.

not to dis too much on the RPers in game, but amarrian loyalists, or caldari or whatever, are just going to have to deal with the fact that they'll almost never have the 'optimal' set-ups. That is the price you pay for your loyalty, with luck you can make up for it with experience and determination. I'm told the 'loyalist RPers' are some of the most dedicated pilots ... so perhaps it won't be an issue ...

Confirmed, when you try with the battery offline it says you can't because the POS is in reinforced, but when you turn the battery online it lets you put ammo in ;)

Interesting.
When my POS was in re-enforcement I took the ammo out... then tried to put it back in and it told me it was in reinforcement and needed to be above 50% shields. I am almost positive I had the batteries online as when I took control of it later it showed up as having no ammo and I had to switch to another battery that had ammo.
This just happened a week ago. Have you tried it recently?

Roger that.
The other thing you can do is use it for mining moons in low sec. You mine in a dead in system and when you see someone in local your hulks warp to the POS and take over defense till they leave. Then it's back to mining.

In the last few weeks yes, I can assure you nothing has changed in this regard since guns were moved outside the shield either. It may be a little buggy but it certainly does work, I do remember getting the message you describe, panicked for abit, changed the status of the guns (onlined I think) and then put ammo in and it worked. Before the guns were moved outside the POS, you used to have to have them offline to add ammo. Now this is not the case.

Just a question, why mine in lowsec when every lowsec ore is less valuable than highsec ores ?

Well in that case just use this setup when you are in 0.0 space and don't want to put up a POS that costs a lot.

very good setups....
one thing to add: If you expect battleships: add more medium guns, less large ones if you expect capitals ships: more large guns
And a POS gunner can control up to 5 guns, 1 per lvl of Starbase Defense Management.
So if you have 15 - 20 guns you need 4 - 5 well skilled gunners.

I use arty as they do have mutiple damage for each round. But you could use the others if you want. (I just don't think they are as good)

When the pos shield drops below 50% all cpu based batteries/arrays offline. At this point is where you online those extra arty batteries and kill as many ships as possible.
When the pos shield drops to 25% the pos goes into reinforced mode. At this stage the pos uses stront fuel, becomes invulnerable and cannot be targeted. Nor can you shoot.
Procedure For POS Defense At End Of Reinforced Mode.
1) Refuel with more stront. 2) Get as many shield repping ospreys/basilik/carriers as possible to rep the shield to 50%. 3) Rep and online pos modules. 4) Finish repping the shield to 100%
The procedure might be misleading. After the POS gets out of reinforced mode its at 25%. You can't refuel the POS (with Strontium and other fuel) if its below 50%. So the first thing is to repair the POS to 50% shield and then refuel it.
And in reinforced mode the POS can still shoot but it can't be shot. The POS modules outside the shield can be shot and incapacitated even if its in reinforced mode. The defenders however can repair those modules and online them again (if they dont use CPU).

Halada! (Thanks for your mining guide)
Actually the Staging POS for Mining Roids should work just as well.
What you want is to have a POS that will auto unlock and target ships who come to scram your JF's or Caps. This has more then enough ECM moduals to do this as well as arty batteries to auto slam BS's that come. Enemy Caps you will have to kill with your caps. JF's will be able to jump to a SS or a turn around point to jump back to protection of the POS shields.
Just remember to check "Attack if aggression" if you have no one to control the guns to save your JF if you have no other support in system. (You don't want that checked if you have ships to protect your fleet as the POS will attack your ships too)
If you are only going to use this POS occationally then you might want to have shield hardeners ready to online when your about to leave so if attacked it takes longer to kill POS while you are not around.
If you really want your POS to help out in killing Caps then you need a large POS to have enough grid for energy nuets and large arty batteries.
Domination Control Tower Medium 4x Ion Field Projection Battery 4x Phase Inversion Battery 4x Spatial Destabilization Battery 4x White Noise Generation Battery 6x Medium Artillery Battery 1x Medium Auto Artillery Battery 2x Small Artillery Battery 2x Small AutoCannon Battery 1x Stasis Webification Battery 2x Warp Scrambling Battery
You would have corp hangers or other items offline to online as needed.

No you are correct on uses of arty. And I do usually have a mixture of both. I lean heavy on regular arty and usually have only 2 auto arty. Those setups that didn't have them... you can change it slightly to have some auto's.

I have one point about placement of guns, or more precisely, scramblers at especially your cynojammer towers; namely spread them as far as possible from the cynojammer and each other. The reason behind this? Cynojammers will be attacked by battleships, and most often, by close range RR battleships. By spreading the most important targets you force the attacker to slow boat from one objective to another as they cannot warp from the tower to reposition themselves without leaving scrambled ships behind. It is very difficult to travel as a group and thus you get chances at catching ships outside RR range.

Cyno Jammers
Paddlefoot Aeon said, "You need SOV 3 to anchor the Cyno jammer... and it prevents ANY cyno from being activated anywhere in the system. It also deactivates any jump beacons in the system." My understanding is that even if a cyno jammer is on a cap ship can jump OUT of that system. The cyno jammer just stops caps from jumping into a system with an active jammer. |

My understanding is that even if a cyno jammer is on a cap ship can jump OUT of that system. The cyno jammer just stops caps from jumping into a system with an active jammer.
Yeah, the modules shouldn't (but do) need explanation. They're not 'capital ship jumping jammers' they're cyno jammers. They jam cyno's which means no ship can 'target' anything in order to jump there. I did have to laugh once when someone had a hostile capital ship in a system cloaked and bluffed him out by telling him they were turning on a cyno jammer and he'd be stuck there. |

Information On Ship Building
Lord Fitz said,
1) "If building ships you want to really do it one of two ways.
a. have a ship maint array within 3000km of the aseembly array so you can assemble and board the finished ships or b. use a freighter to take the finished ships to a nearby outpost to assemble/sell (works especially well for haulers).
2) The amount of LO / Heavy water listed on the towers attributes is for 100% grid/CPU usage. If you use less than this you don't use as much. (50% grid = 50% LO usage etc)
3) Each type of array can only manufacture the items designed for that array. There are two module (equipment arrays), one has 5 slots and 20% wastage, 0.65x time multiplier. The other has 1 slot no extra wastage and a 0.8x multiplier. The rest of the T1 arrays have no wastage, a 0.75x time multiplier and can ONLY build the types of their array.
a. Small ship array can only build frigates and destryoers and fighters b. Medium ship can build cruisers, barges, haulers, battlecruisers but not any small ships c. Large Ship array can build battleships, freighters, carriers, dreadnaughts nothing smaller.
(The T1 arrays can also only build T1 ships, all the ship arrays are 90m each)
d. Titans and motherships are built in a special Capital Ship Assembly array (which coincidentally is not for Dreads/Carriers/Freighters). It requires sov 1 to anchor, costs 2b isk, and is 900,000m3. Lots of fun."

2. If you are in the 'manage' page of your POS, regardless of distance from a structure, you can select it in the structures list and click the 'online' button at the bottom of the screen.
3. All offensive modules (Ewar/turrets/missile launchers etc) must be outside the shield.

Reactors will only anchor in 0.3 and below, so you can only do reactions in 0.3 and below.

Alliance members can use a Jump Bridge with the POS forcefield password. (As can anyone else if they have the POS password) Alliance members can also use the Jump Portal Array. (no one else can) Alliance members can put things into hangars, but not see where they are putting things in or take things out. Should be able to set it to alliance under the structures list. They cannot use anything else or have access to any assembly array or labs or anything.

Nope... I actually tried it and it doesn't allow you to use it for reactions....
It seems to be a storage place in space for one particular item that you can select. (you can't store multiple items in it) So it is very limited in use. (Unless others have found a better use for it)

It will be for booster reactions (drugs) those require NPC goods and things as part of the reaction. Thus it's designed to store those.
For Moon Mining based material reactions you need the 'silo' silo. All the others as far as I'm aware are for boosters. |

Added the below: (I'm hoping at some point to have all answers to every POS issue in this thread)
Soverignty Issues
Lord Fitz said, Only the largest sized tower counts, ie, 1 large tower will claim soverignty no matter how many mediums are in the system. If you both have a single large and they also have a medium the soverignty will be neutralised, the medium still does not count as there is a large present.
Each corporation may only anchor one tower per day per system, unless in an alliance, then the total is 5 per day for the whole alliance (1 corp may anchor all 5).
Once a tower is anchored a mail is sent to the whole alliance of the soverignty holding alliance, it lists the new towers type/location/owner along with all other towers types, owners and locations in that system.
So to claim soverignty you will need either a single larger tower than them (unless they already have a large tower) and then you will require more large towers than them. Claiming soverignty takes 7 days.

Hey I have a question, I read the FAQ and saw a sort of answer ... but
If the tower has been destroyed and the mods have been incapacitated ... is there a way to un-anchor them and or scoop them at all ? If they have been un-anchored already?
I guess basically how do you get rid of the mods or take them and place up another tower ??

Edited by: cuncannon on 10/10/2008 00:48:34 Yes you can rep the incapacitated moduals, you will need logistic's ships or carriers, with both a remote capital Armor and hull reps.
This is the setup I use on an Archon for just repping incapacitated moduals,
Cloak for hostiles 2 Capital Remote Armor Reps 1 Capital Remote Hull Rep. 4 cap recharger 2's Capital Armor Rep 1 Cargo Expander 2 rest cap power relays 2's 3 ccc rigs heavy Armor repair bots This gives you a very fast recharge rate but you will have no tank, also if hostiles do jump in, even runing the dual cap remote reps your cap will hang arround the 68-74 % mark, I can jump out at 72%, most carrier pilots with lesser skills need 75% cap.
For those of you that are red to me, no this is not my carrier alt so no good looking for him in a capital
Allways have a cyno alt standing by if local looks a little to hot just cyno out

Excellent POS setup guides ! Thankyou to all posters.
I see one thing that was not covered...
We have a small amarr tower used for mining base in high sec. What weapon setup would you recommend just as a deterrence to small corps that may hassle us with an extortion wardec? I guess I'm thinking of a small deathstar setup that we can online the guns in case of wardec and hopefully be enough firepower to make a few guys with battleships reconsider their attack. I know a small tower cannot resist a determined enemy, and we don't have plans right now to upgrade to a medium or large tower.
Thankyou for any advice and fitting recommendations. |

No it can be used in high sec as well and any other sec. Training a bunch of alts or people with these skills are best way to kill ships trying to take out your POS.
Originally by: Sharkey Rose What about using a small tower (most likely gallente) for moon mining. What's the best way of setting up its defenses?
While you can use a small tower... the moon mineral had best not be worth much as you can't have much defense on the tower.
Take a look at some of my setups. Smalls POS's are mentioned. But if not then put on one each of ECM jammers.... then two medium auto arty batteries and see how much is left after your moon mining stuff. Then add a warp disabalizer (for lower grid). Have offline another medium arty battery or two.
This setup only stops the random ship or two from attacking you. Any large gang will kill your POS quickly.

I've made some changed in the basic setup. Namely just taking out the factional batteries and arrays.
You really do not need them for most POS's and they actually can become the target of your POS being attacked... as they can sell them off and make isk on killing your POS.
So use them where you just can't loose the POS and you know you will be there when POS is attacked after it comes out of reinforcement.

A couple of questions.
First - I don't understand the whole offlining of the hardeners thing, when attacked. Ala
When Attacked You: Offline Ballistic Deflection Array Explosion Dampening Array Heat Dissipation Array
What's the point of having them if you turn them off under fire?
Secondly, what kind of ammo counts would you recommend keeping in close storage for a medium arty pos? Thanks! |

Understanding POS Gun Falloff
Question "I'm setting up a Domination medium pos, with the intent to fit lots of medium artillery. Now, medium artillery batteries are listed as:
activation proximity : 330 km accuracy falloff : 246 km optimal range : 280 km
What I don't get is: all of these numbers are way, way further than you can even set up a POS from the moon warpin point. If you get ships coming in at 180-200, what do these numbers mean? Are they going to hit? Is there an inside range where they'll become useless? As a missile user, this stuff has always confused me.
For example : if a ship is at 140km (1/2 optimal) does that mean 1/2 damage? And what happens in that magic range betwen 246 (falloff) and optimal (280)? I just can't make heads or tails of it."
Carniflex said, "In a nutshell gun range is optimal+2x falloff where hit propability will drop off relatively fast after optimal+1x falloff. It's true that those arties are not shooting outside their activation range on their own, but of you have pos gunners available then you can surpice some targets sometimes who sit at 500 km from tower and think that they are safe."
Lui Kai said, (with corrections) "In answer to the 1/2 optimal question, ignoring tracking...
If a gun has, in example, 50km optimal and 20km falloff:
Target at 50K and less - normal hit/damage probability. Target at 70K - reduced chance to hit. Target at (optimal+falloff) 70K - very low chance to hit. Target at 91K - you're not going to hit.
Optimal is basically the "Inside this range, you've got normal hit odds." Falloff is how far outside of that range you still have a chance to hit at all.
In answer to the range on POS guns - no, they won't automatically activate at that kind of range, but as mentioned - a POS gunner can give a nasty surprise to someone who thinks they're outside of activation range." |

Originally by: Fitz VonHeise Arty is very useful in that it hits with two or more types of damage. So if you use two types of rounds like Phased Plasma and EMP you will be hitting across multiple damage types which is harder for ships to harden against.
You could use factional ammo... but it costs more. There is no different for high-sec vs 0.0 POS ammo.

[yellow]My Finding From Having POS Attacked[yellow]
Plan Ahead. You will need to have at least three ship types: Shield repper, armor repper and a hull repper. (Or at least bring some remote hull reppers and switch out remote shield/armor moduals to allow you to use them)
If you are online you can kill a lot of ships with gunners: They are a must. If you have carriers you can poke their nose out of the shields and rep your batteries. You need to be very slow about moving out of shield as you run the real risk of being bumped all the way out and they will keep you out till you die. (you may not even want to try it but if you have three or more carriers you can triage each other)
If you login and find your POS in reinforcement no doubt all or most of your batteries will be incompasitated. You will prob notice that the shields are almost 100% but the armor is red and there is a touch red on the hull too. This is where you need either a guardian or a armor repping carrier to buff armor up to 100%. But you will also need to get a ship out there to hull rep that sliver of red on each one. (I

Lord Fitz said, "Ok, the first thing to understand, is that reinforced is different to just offline. In reinforced mode you may NOT take or place anything in any structure that requires CPU, this means you can not take anything out of silos, assembly arrays or corp hangars. Even though you can when they are normally offline.
You CAN take out of and place items into ship maint arrays. These do not require CPU and are not affected by reinforced.
When the tower structures are offline but the tower is not in reinforced, you can remove things from any hangar."

Then you can just drag from one to the other. Note that once they are assembled, you can no longer put them in cargo of a freighter etc, you have to fly them out. You can't repackage at a POS.

Other small note, you need the advanced arrays to build the T2 versions of ships, these arrays have a 1.1x material multiplier and can not build the T1 hulls.

Hi!
I carefully read all of this great topic but still have some questions unanswered. They all are regarding hi-sec research pos.
First of all, I'm planning to use Caldari large tower because it is, as was stated here, best suited for onlining muliple labs. This tower have innate bonuses to missile batteries, but in this thread missiles aren't covered at all in favour of artillery. Is there any reason why missiles should be avoided when building hisec POS defence? If so, is these reasons severe enough that even Tower bonuses didn't overweight them?
Next question, if I chose to go missile way, is there any reason I might want to use Citadel or Torpedo batteries on hisec POS, or only Cruise ones? Perhaps battleships will be slow enough to be hit by Citadels and frigates will be more vulnerable to Torpedoes than Cruises? Or artillery would do it's job better anyway even with no bonuses for it?
Thanks in advance.

Originally by: Mega Builder Is there any reason why missiles should be avoided when building hisec POS defence?
Actually I did answer it... but it wasn't highlighted:
Reinforcement Issues
When the pos shield drops to 25% the pos goes into reinforced mode: all cpu based batteries/arrays offline. At this stage the pos uses stront fuel, becomes invulnerable and cannot be targeted. But you can still shoot IF your guns use grid only. (This is why you don't use missle battery's) . The POS modules outside the shield can be shot & incapacitated even if its in reinforced mode. The defenders however can repair those modules and online them again (if they dont use CPU).
I changed the title in original to highlight the reason. Basically your POS will probably be attacked when you are asleep. So all your missiles are huge paperweights. Arty, Railguns, whatever (other then missiles) can always shoot as long as your POS is alive.

Thanks for quick response Fitz VonHeise!
Actually I did read that part of guide but disregarded this issue as having little practical value. Perhaps I was wrong. Could you please further enlighten me on following: when pos is in reinforce, does it keep it's shield up or it's only structure that is untargetable and/or invulnerable? If there's no shield during reinforce than there's no pos gunners then in turn there's no much of difference if guns are still shooting or not.
More important: is it the only issue with missiles or there's anything else making them inferior to artillery? So far this "shoot while in reinforce" doesn't looks like a better choise than tower bonuses.
Also, for those of us who still decide to stick with missiles, any thoughts on possible usability/necessity of Citadel & Torpedo batteries in hisec?

Smaller POS's To Stage For Mining Roids
Try this for a small Domination/Angel tower: (For the arty bonus's, and yes you can substitute Minmatar tower instead)
With two webers any ship should be slowed enough for medium batteries to take out.
Angel Control Tower Small 2x Ion Field Projection Battery 2x Phase Inversion Battery 2x Spatial Destabilization Battery 1x White Noise Generation Battery 4x Medium Artillery Battery 2x Stasis Webification Battery 1x Warp Scrambling Battery
You would have corp hangers or other items offline to online as needed.
I tried this fit on an Small Angel tower and I come up a little short on the PG. 1110000 of 1093750
Any idea what might cause this or if not, what would be the mod to drop?
Thanks! _______________________________________________

Oh yes, thats a thread ive searched a long time for ! Very very good. Though my head is pumped up to a big big calabash, I still have a question to the positioning of the guns: I read 2 strategies: 1. place them around the POS. So the attacker cant target them without moving, which gives the defense time to lock them . 2. place them in one place. So, the short range guns can fight against frigates, which are attacking the guns. What is the best solution ?

Hi,
despite having been warned (the cpu/RM issue), I took a look at missile batteries. The Caldari tower and the batteries themselves give some nice boni, and I wouldnt have tracking issues. Here it is:
Caldari Tower: 25% bonus to Missile Batter Rate of Fire 50% bonus to Missile Velocity
Cruise Missile Battery: 350km Activation Proximity 2x Missile Velocity Bonus 2.5x Missile Flight Time Bonus 1x Missile Damage Bonus 50% Explosion Velocity Bonus -75% Explosion Radius Bonus 24s Rate of Fire
Torpedo Battery: 350km Activation Proximity 2.5x Missile Velocity Bonus 5x Missile Flight Time Bonus 2.5x Missile Damage Bonus 50% Explosion Velocity Bonus -25% Explosion Radius Bonus 24s Rate of Fire
Cruise Missile: 3,750m/s Max Velocity 20s Max Flight Time 69m/s Explosion Velocity 300m Explosion Radius 300HP Damage
Torpedo: 1,500m/s Max Velocity 6s Max Flight Time 71m/s Explosion Velocity 450m Explosion Radius 450HP Damage
Medium Autocannon Battery: 90km Activation Proximity 15km Optimal Range 63km Accuracy Falloff 0.03456 Trackingspeed 400m Sig Resolution 43x Damage Modifier 7.88s Rate Of Fire
Medium Artillery Battery: 330km Activation Proximity 280km Optimal Range 246km Accuracy Falloff 0.002566845 Trackingspeed 400m Sig Resolution 67x Damage Modifier 23.65s Rate Of Fire
Fusion L: Range Bonus -25% 32HP Exp 8HP Kin
Applied Boni: =============
Cruise Missile: 11,250m/s Max Velocity 50s Max Flight Time 103m/s Explosion Velocity 75m Explosion Radius 300HP Damage 19.2 Rate of Fire
Torpedo: 5,625m/s Max Velocity 30s Max Flight Time 106.5m/s Explosion Velocity 337.5m Explosion Radius 1125HP Damage 19.2 Rate of Fire
Autocannon Fusion L: 11.25km Optimal Range 47.25km Accuracy Falloff 376HP Exp 1504HP Kin 7.88s Rate Of Fire
Artillery Fusion L: 210km Optimal Range 184.5km Accuracy Falloff 536HP Exp 2144HP Kin 23.65s Rate Of Fire
Now, first of all I guess that the information I got from that guide that Medium Batteries take L ammo must be wrong. Second of all, what's up with the incredible low damage of the cruise missile bat? Is the damage mod shown online not the one used? Could someone comment on that?

Edited by: Ahro Thariori on 31/03/2009 14:53:54 it's always great to answer your post yourself
Powergrid is the key. I can anchor 3.38 Cruise Missile Bats for the powergrid of one medium AC Bat and 2.53 Torpedo Bats for one medium Arty Bat. That brings Torps, ACs, Artys in line. Still the Cruises seem to be a little underpowered. Also of consideration: I can only control so many guns, being able to have 3.38x/5.06x cruise missiles online doesn't help alot if the damage is spread all over the place.
I would deem cruise missiles fit for random high-sec wardecs and initial attacks (when you are asleep anyways): they have no tracking issues, low explosion radius (good vs inty), incredible range. Targets will ofc warp-out (if not pointed by sheer accident), it just forces them to change setup from gank to tank, is good against sniping and speed tanking. They are so cheap fuel wise you can even have some online all the time (for when you don't log in daily to check for wardeccs)

Considering all that was written, this is what I will do:
Large Caldari High-Sec POS: =========================== When war-decced: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ (this one really depends on how many labs you can spare and whether you think the wardec'ing corp poses a threat at all (Zzz has a history of random wardecs by <5 man corps))

When attacked (if online to man the guns and change the setup at all): ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ labs, assembly arrays offline missile offline some hardeners offline (frees pgs for guns) more ECM, Disruption online Artys, ACs online, e.g.: 1x Photon Scattering Array (Shield Hardener) 1x Explosion Dampening Array (Shield Hardener) 2x Ion Field Projection Battery (ECM) 2x Phase Inversion Battery (ECM) 2x Spatial Destab Battery (ECM) 2x White Noise Generation Battery (ECM) 2x Warp Disruption Battery 2x Stasis Webification Battery 6x Medium Artillery Battery 5x Medium AutoCannon Battery

No the mediums arty's do take L ammo; small take medium and the large arty's take XL ammo. Why? Ask CCP.
Your comments about missile batteries make sense. If you have the isk and time to place then go ahead. (But I still like Minmitar towers and will use arty)

Hello all, great thread!
I'm looking into setting up a Shadow Medium tower to protect a moon in somewhat hostile space (although they don't have a capital force to take it down from what i've seen) and i'm looking for some tips as i'm at a bit of a loss on how to set it up.
I think mainly whats throwing me off is someone said I needed neuts, and they take up a lot of grid and I end up with barely any guns after the disrupters and webs. I would appreciate some recommended setups to remedy.

Here's a few niggling questions I've had for a while. Apologies if any of this is asked/answered.
1. For highsec defenses why not employ mass ECM jamming? Without the immunity of capital ships its effectively impossible to avoid jamming from a host of dread guristas ECM batteries, or even normal ones. It might not kill anything but seeing as how most highsec wardecs are the product of naked opportunism it still serves as a great deterrent till you can get a defensive force over to gank the attackers. I would pose this as a great defense for low manpower corps that can't be at their POS 24/7.
2. Why no love for rail guns? I realize projectile turrets' obvious superiority for fitting on domination towers and I appreciate their lower fitting requirements in general but rails have their virtues too. They have better tracking, faster refire, and a medium rail battery hits that sweet spot optimal that sniper teams like to operate at.
In keeping with these ideas here's a rather unconventional highsec lab defense setup I've been tinkering with. It isn't capable of the kind of withering firepower a deathstar is, but I'd wager it goes just as far in preventing wardecs and defending your tower. Yes it uses missiles but frankly if a corporation has the means and willpower to put this into reinforced there's not much I can do to stop them anyhow. Comments/rage welcome. :)

First i would like to say thank you to the OP for such a great collection on POS information. I have skim read it and copied out what I think I need to read over.
I have been doing a lot of research at the moment, but would love some advice on setting up a POS to act as a staging post for a WH base. Was only intending on going to an easy WH to start with as it will probably be two people. (may park one or two alts in the WH, for gunnery or a backup prober).
While there we will be doing a mixture of mining high end roids and probing out exploration sites to plunder.
I will be continuing with my research but am a little worried as this will be my first experience with anything to do with a POS.
Any advice would be welcome.... a POS setup would be amazing! ------------------------ Jint Hikaru - Miner / Salvager "I've got a couple of Strippers on my ship... and they just love to dance!" ------------------------ |

They do take up a lot of grid... but at least two Online are needed. This will make Cap fleets think twice or cause them to have to bring more force. Originally by: Mealtrom 1. For highsec defenses why not employ mass ECM jamming?
2. Why no love for rail guns?
3. Are there any subcapital applications for citadel launchers or am I just dreaming?
1. I like lots of ECM as well. You just need a balance of guns and ECM.
2. Rail guns can work too. Just use appropiete towers for bonus's and subsitute rails for arty. (I just happen to like arty)
3. Dreaming... they are to slow and small sig ships never get hit hard. Originally by: Jint Hikaru would love some advice on setting up a POS to act as a staging post for a WH base.
Other then issues with getting the pos, batteries and fuel into the WH the staging towers I have listed will work just fine in WH space as normal space.

No attribute you train will effect the POS guns. The only thing that effects pos guns is what type of POS tower you buy. The bonus's are listed for each type.
EDIT: The only training that effects anything is Star Base Defense Management. And that (per level) allows you to control one more battery or array up to a max of five.

Just replace all the faction stuff with non faction and drop some guns to make it fit. It won't be as good, but it will be more 'cost efficent'. A non faction deathstar is actually fairly cheap, and to be honest, will still kill a lot of ships if it's gunned. But if it's not, it'll die maybe 2 minutes sooner. |

IIRC the POS guns aren't affected by ammo range penalties, so go with the hardest-hitting ammo spread that does all damage types.

I've had people ask me about POS's in WormHoles.
I've come up with lasers as you don't want to have to carry a lot of ammo inside. I use a large as this will stop almost anyone from attacking your POS. Use a factional version to get the lowest fuel usage. ECM is to break lock for the RR BS fleets. And some offline large guns just in case a Dread shows up. You could use a medium and down size battery numbers

Intresting. Thanks for setup
But yes you can run two using an Amarr Tower. (See below) You just would have to have everything else offline. No you wouldn't have the silo bonus's so you would have to empty more often. More then likely one would just run one reaction and the setup would work... just have more offline.

I basically want a low cost pos for research and bs production.

On the first page there are setups for high sec pos's. They deal with research only... so if you put up array to make ships you will loose some initial firepower. You might want to look at a medium POS.
Use my suggestions (and others mentioned) along with the program MY POS and come up with best load outs.

For what it is worth, I just bought a Domination large to replace a Dread Guristas medium, as I just didn't feel comfortable with the defensive capabilities of the DG medium, which in my opinion really requires one to pack it up if wardec'd.
Call me extremely paranoid, but I really didn't want to have to go through the cycle of removing everyone from the corp, waiting a week, placing the tower again, and getting everyone back in the corp again, after a random wardec.
I compared a Domination and a True Sansha / Dark Blood large, as they are the most defensible: - Domination has 50% less silo space (I don't use silos) - Domination has 625,000 MW less grid (= 4 less guns) + Domination has 500 TF more CPU (= one more mobile lab) + Domination has 6,000,000 more shield (= 12.5% more) Even though I produce Helium isotopes and will have to trade them for Hydrogen, the Domination gets my vote mainly because of more shield.
The cyno-jammer deathstar setup, minus the jammer, is what I'm aiming for when not researching.
Thanks Fitz for a great thread!

I don't really expect many wardecs and since this is kind of my own one-man corp I don't think I could make anything more than a small POS profitable atm. Guess it's probably not viable then to have one POS for both research and BS manufacturing.

Might want to add that lasers are quite expensive to maintain if you move the tower around from wormhole to wormhole frequently, as everytime the laser is un-anchored, the crystal is destroyed. One cannot remove the crystal without destroying it either.

Take a look at the description of any laser battery:
"Placing a new type of crystal into the crystal compartment will result in the destruction of the crystal being replaced."
My corp has a wh POS that is about to be moved for the third time, and destroying the active crystal is becoming an expensive annoyance. The non-active crystals can be removed.
Feel free to test it youself. If you can find a way around it, we'd love to know what we are doing wrong.

The pos setups posted look extreemly good... and I would really appreciate your advice on a setup for a pos that wants to defend a capital construction array while the supercap is being built and either had the cap maint array not deployed or offline until needed... for the benefit of the excercise please assume that the system is not sov4 & that the pos will want to buy time for a support fleet to assemble & arrive.

There really are many variables to take into account. Do you have Sov 3 or higher. Probably you would want factional everything to give you the best setup possible.
I would suggest loading the below program and using it. Forget any type of missles and keep in mind the basic ideas already given.

Hummm ... are you sure? I've only had one lazer pos but I think I remember being able to take the crystals out before I took it all down.
Can anyone confirm this for me please?

I can confirm that destruction of the loaded crystal does occur if you try to remove it.
I just put up a POS recently with lazers in a WH and one of the guys put up a battery not quite to my liking. I could remove the unused crystal ready to be loaded but for the one in the chamber it said it would be destroyed if I removed it. Since it was a Factional Crystal... I left it there.

Reports from testers on Sisi indicate:
* Ammunition affects battery range. * Battery range is measured from the tower. * Distance shown on controlled batteries is from the battery, not the tower (which is misleading).
Note that some towers have bonused sentries, which allows the use of harder hitting shorter range ammo. For example, Minmatar-family towers have silly long effective range, and artillery batteries also have an activation proximity further than other batteries.

Great ! Thats the post i was waiting for. Thanks.
One thing though. How about tracking ? Measured from tower or guns?.

When You DonÆt Have A Large Fleet Or How To Kill Ships With Just A Few Guys
Depending on how large a group you can get together will depend on how much you can hurt the attackers. If you can put together a 6-8 man BS fleet it is possible to totally wipe out their fleet. You need to be able to warp jam their ships or they will fly off when you target them. (I know by personal experience)
Here Is How To Kill An Enemy Fleet You need "throwaway" T1 tanking BS's with smart bombs. (Rohks are great as you can have 8 SBs) You do not need to shoot anything with your ships: That is what your POS guns will do.
Many times to take out POS's the enemy fleet will bring Remote Repping BS's. They will rotate close to each other around one æanchorÆ ship. You can use this to your advantage if you have 5-7 ships. If they have been coming around & you know they fly a lot of a certain faction then you setup your BSÆs with SBs to hit where their resists are weakest. If they fly mostly PvP ships you will hit them in armor & usually thermal. (Yes explosive & kinetic is less but they will tank for that) If they are bring torp ravens then pick kinetic. You setup tanking BS's that are tanking that same resist that you are attacking. (as all your ship SBs will be hitting your ships too) So you get your fleet of BS's off at a safe spot. Have them all align to POS. (Yes moving toward POS) The FC/SC will have finger ready to warp fleet to cloaked ship. Someone at the POS watches the enemy fleet. He waits till the enemy ships start rotating around each other. You get one T1 cloaking guy close to their fleet. What he is going to do is MW drive into the middle of this swirling fleet. So, just before your cloaked ship is uncloaked, he MWDs into middle of enemy fleet & tell BSÆs to warp to him when he does. Once your fleet arrives they start SBÆs. (The enemy drones will insta pop) Your BS's should be able to get 6-7 smart bombing cycles before they start to die.
Your BSÆs target & warp jam ships. Have arty start killing what they can. Have a group of 5 guns target one jammed ship & have another group hit a 2nd jammed one. It will require some coordination between ships & gunners but you should melt ships quickly. There is a very good chance that you will kill most of their ships. This has been used effectively against HAC fleets where 3-4 SBÆing ships have totally wiped out a 70-90 man fleet. The concept will work with BS's too if you have enough DPS in the SBÆs. Those who are good at math can run the numbers to see how many SB BS's you would really need. I am guessing 6-8.
What if you only have 5-8 guys & most of them are manning the guns?
Again setup a really good tanking SBÆing BS. (In fact make 4-6 of them & have them floating inside your POS)
You have your BS guy off at a safe spot & moving towards the tower. You will still need a cloaking ship to get close to their BS's. He called out for your BS to warp to your cloaked ship (move it out of way so it lives).
Once ship lands it jams one enemy ship. Your guns on tower target that ship & kill it. If your ship is still alive, it jam another: guns kill that ship. Keep going till your BS dies. The other thing that BS does is to wait about 10-15 seconds till all drones are attacking the ship then lights off all smart bombs & kill the drones. :o)
When the BS diesà the BS guy has selected a planet to warp to & clicks the insta warp button at the top of the overview screen. (I know most people just ignore those). The guy flys to moon, then fly back to POS to pick up another BS. He goes back to SS & keep doing this, killing their ships one or two off.
Yes it will be a war of attrition. (Insure all BSÆs) Make your kills count. Make them pay for coming to kill your tower. And have fun doing it!!

(I decided to add this here to keep my thread up to date)
================================= Here is what I would put up after having gone through some High Sec POS fights with the Goons:
Below is what is online before being attacked but after the Wardec. And if really attacked to offline labs and online the other batteries. This would allow you to still have some labs working most of the time. Course if you really want you could just offline and unanchor labs during wardec's. If no wardec's just have all batteries offline. (And of course you could have more labs running)
Large Amarr Control Tower
2x Advanced Mobile Laboratory (Online) 2x Mobile Laboratory (Online)
Ballistic Deflection Array (Online) Explosion Dampening Array (Online)
10x Ion Field Projection Battery (Online) 10x Phase Inversion Battery (Online) 10x Spatial Destabilization Battery (Online) 20x White Noise Generation Battery (Online)
10x Medium Artillery Battery (Online) 4x Medium AutoCannon Battery (Online)
2x Warp Disruption Battery (Online) 4x Warp Scrambling Battery (Online)

Again this is just what is online. You need many more offline but ready to go.
If Under Attack Here Is What Is Online:
Ballistic Deflection Array (Online) Explosion Dampening Array (Online)
12x Ion Field Projection Battery (Online) 13x Phase Inversion Battery (Online) 12x Spatial Destabilization Battery (Online) 20x White Noise Generation Battery (Online) 12x Medium Artillery Battery (Online) 4x Medium AutoCannon Battery (Online)

I added this:
Auto Arty: Why Is It Better Then Normal Arty?
Most attacks on POS's are at very close range and attacking your warp scrambler. Because auto arty is good for up to 70k I put them very close to the Warp jammers to make sure I can hit them good and hard.
In my tests I was hitting using the auto's with between 1,500 to 2,500 per hit. Normal arty hits with around 500-600 damage. If you have two of the auto arty hitting a ship along with 10 normal arty's you will take them down in short order.
Yes you still need normal arty as it hits out to 350km or more. If you don't have some they will bring sniping BS's and you won't hit them at all. I usually have a mix of 3 normal arty to 1 auto arty.

After the Goons killed off my medium POS in Jatate I decided to put up my version of a "Death Star" in high sec. Below are some pics of what I did. If you want to see what it looks like in game come to Jatate IV-4.
I have the batteries spread out a lot so they can't just bring smartbombing BS's and take out most of your stuff. The bottom and top have the Warp Scramblers with the autobatteries next to them. The sides have the long range arty on them with many ecm arrays.
I do want to mention that any POS can be killed if people bring enough ships to kill it. All you are trying to do is make it really hard to kill that it would take too much time an effort to take it down.

Fitz, I must say that this is one of the most helpful threads on this board and I managed to get allot of information regarding POS setup.
I still have a question that remained unanswered in all 5 pages. If I run a 2 man corporation and I want to setup a research POS for my BPO's, what would be the best non faction fitting that wont leave me bankrupted and would also keep unwanted guests away from it? I'm planing to place it in .6 system. You stated allot of setups, but none are if I may say so low-cost setups which still give you enough security, so that a 30-50 man corp can't bring it down. Is that even possible to run? with only to people in a corp?

Not really.
With only 2 pos gunners you might kill a few ships but if 30-50 BS's attack your POS it is going to go down.
Your best bet:
If all you need is 2-3 labs then put up a small caldari and login each day. If you are wardec'd just offline and take down all your labs till wardec is over. If all you have is an empty POS when war dec starts they probably won't kill the tower. If they do it is only 100m to replace.

You don't need to worry about battleships.. so no need for medium arty. You could go with all ECM and they would never be able to target your towers to shoot. But that is no fun as you can't kill them. So I added in arty to the mix. You should have some extras anchored but offline of each.

Just wondering how often POSes get attacked in WH space (thinking about Classes 1-3)?
My reasoning (which is by no means perfect) would be:
- ok, we hit it with everything we've got... oh bummer, now it's in re-inforced mode (invincible)... - oh bummer, now we have to wait until DT... - oh bummer, now the wormhole we came through is about to collapse (too many ships came through) - oh bummer now the whole attacking fleet finds itself out of ammo and many-many jumps away from their "home base"...
What's the point in seeking out/attacking a POS in a wormhole? No moon mining, so you're not trying to "get in the profitable action", the bulk of what the tower will drop (if any) would be the fuel...

Originally by: Michael Caldar Just wondering how often POSes get attacked in WH space (thinking about Classes 1-3)?
There are more attacked then you might expect.
I know that WI made a point of searching out WH's with the expressed purpose of popping POS's for what would drop. (Or searching for Orca/Rorquals to kill) If you have no stong in your POS then you've made it easy for them. If you do have stong then they have to dedicate a team of BS's to stay in your hole to kill your POS after it comes out of reinforcement. (So WH dwellers should think about making any WI hole go critical as soon as you find it)
Class 5-6 have another problem: Other WH corps that can bring in a Dread to kill your POS. I've read that there are certain corps that can and have done this to other WH dwellers. Usually it is more because they don't like the other corp... but sometimes it is just for what can drop. Corps can make billions in WH's and if you don't take the stuff out... what can drop makes killing a POS worth while.
I've gone into some C6's and have found multiple Carriers and Dreads though. So good luck killing those POS's off!
If you have stuff that you donÆt want to loseà then make sure your POS has so many defenses they donÆt want to mess with you.
All our POS's have so many ecm that most ships brought wouldnÆt even be able to shoot or rep each other.

Projectile ammo has changed, so you might want to top-off your guns!
* Small AutoCannon Battery (750 m3 / 0.0125): 60,000 rounds * Small Artillery Battery (50 m3 / 0.0125): 4,000 rounds * Medium AutoCannon Battery (1,000 m3 / 0.0250): 40,000 rounds * Medium Artillery Battery (65 m3 / 0.0250): 2,600 rounds
For AutoCannons on a RoF bonused tower, that's over 65 hours of shooting! Artillery lasts only about 13 hours though.

Yes use lasers instead. And those who have lived in a C1 tell us if BS's can get in.
In the months I lived in a C2, just this week we had our first outgoing C6. Usually higher class wormholes are incoming, so bigger ships can't get in.
So yes it is possible, but rather rare, and risky for the big ship to enter a system it may not be able to get out of.

what do you think? also what guns should i anchor but keep offline?

You need to specify locatation of the tower.
In low sec? In 0.0 space that alliance has secured? In unsecured 0.0 space. In a Worm Hole? (C1-C3 or C4-C6?)
Each can have a bit different setup.

So that are 70 batteries you online when war-decced and offline afterwards ^= 2x 3h of tedious mechanics. Wouldnt it be more time efficient to field just a few batteries for small-corp wardecs and take down the tower for larger decs?

You want to spread them out so that an attacking fleet doesn't just warp-in and smartbomb them (not an issue in hisec of course). Otherwise to force them to move around rather than to be in optimal range of everything.
ECM batteries have a 200 km optimal, and 100 km fall-off. If it is on the grid, they can reach it.

I never take down a pos once wardec'ed. They will probably be watching for you to offline it and scoop it before you. I would rather them take the time to kill it then "give" it to them.

What you are hoping for is for them to not even try to attack knowing they will need to get a LOT of ships (ie bodies) there to be able to shoot... as the ECM will continually be breaking their lock. And even so they will be sitting there for a long time trying to kill this pos. (depending on how many ships they do bring)
Once into reinforcement... you need to go to plan B...
which is either a fleet to catch and kill the ships.. or my one off tanking/jamming ship: while your gunners kill the one ship that is caught. If they are shooting at your ships... they are not shooting your tower.
If they really want to kill the tower they will. But you can have fun and take as many with you as you can.

If they fly mostly PvP ships you will hit them in armor & usually explosive or kinetic. If they are bring torp ravens then pick em. You setup tanking BS's that are tanking that same resist that you are attacking. (as all your ship SBs will be hitting your ships too) So you get your fleet of BS's off at a safe spot. You can make it just offgrid about 1,500k from POS so it is just a short jump.
Have a group of 4 guns target one jammed ship & have another group hit a 2nd jammed one.
Once ship lands it jams 1 enemy ship. Your guns on tower target & kill that ship. If your ship is still alive, it jam another: guns kill that ship. Keep going till your BS dies. The other thing that BS does is to wait 10-15 seconds till all drones are attacking then lights off all smart bombs & kills drones. :o)
When the BS diesà the BS guy has selected a planet to warp to & clicks the insta warp button at the top of overview screen.

Reports from testers on Sisi indicate:
* Battery range is measured from the tower.
So it can be infered that there is no need to put guns neatly on all sides of the tower (rectangle, hexagon, pole, pyramid, cube, ... style)? How comes that everyone does it if it has no effect?
You want to spread them out so that an attacking fleet doesn't just warp-in and smartbomb them (not an issue in hisec of course). Otherwise to force them to move around rather than to be in optimal range of everything.
Sure, spreading out is required. But not "neatly" (in such a geometric fashion that you cover all surrounding space with gun love (if distance was measured from batteries)). Imho, this makes anchoring easier (less planning).
Btw: why isnt smartbombing an issue in hisec? Non-corp alt warping in, thereby triggering Concord? Or a hardcoded mechanic?
Quote:
Also nobody has verified if tracking is from the tower, as far as I know at least.
I am currently voting to wardec my POS corp with an alt corp and I will try to verify what has been said and tracking if I can.

I never take down a pos once wardec'ed. They will probably be watching for you to offline it and scoop it before you. I would rather them take the time to kill it then "give" it to them.
I expect them to be sleeping some time during the day. But you are right, I lost a small POS once in that fashion in lowsec after trying gun control (should have gone Sisi).

Fitz, I want to setup my own POS in a C2/C3 wormhole - to do some mining and ratting. I think I need to go with a large POS (for the Intensive Refining Array) as it only takes 10 minutes to fill a smaller refining Array - and then you have to wait 1.5 hours for refining to finish.
What setup would you recommend for a two-man corp (me and my alt)? I want to discourage attackers as much as possible as I don't plan on being able to put up much of a defense if attacked.
Apart from defensive ECM batteries etc., the only modules at the POS would be a corp hanger array, a ship assembly array and a refining array.

For mining, you really don't want to live in a system, rather be nomadic; mine and move on.
With that in mind, I'd go with a medium tower, and fill the grid with small and medium weapons. Skip ECM and shield hardeners as they are very bulky to haul to the next mining system. Lasers destroy the active crystal when unanchored, so Minmatar with projectile batteries that can be unloaded and moved would be better than Amarr.
If you do plan to stay in one system, then mining the connecting systems is the only way, and because of mass limits you'll need a high class system or you'll pop the wormhole long before you mine out just the ABC.

preliminary results (thanks to can-flipping):
test setup large caldari control tower batteries on both sides controlled guns (while I took control no other batteries fired/ecm'ed, but once I released control the AI took over. One corp(but flagged)- osprey killed in action)
warp disruptor batteries cannot target if ship is farther than 150km from the battery(!) - regardless of tower distance
guns medium ac: sig res 400mm optimal 15 fall-off 63 ammo: 0% range increment
target ship: sig radius 240mm speed 0.0 m/s

results hits:misses @gun distance (tower distance) 0:17 @187 (tower: 144) 0:15 @108 (tower: 144)
Conclusion Range bonus/malus from ammo doesn't apply, distance seems to be measured from tower. Or is it? (note to self: test if dps bonus from ammo applies)
Moved gunner away from tower, result: 1:44 (tower:144, gunner: 129). 144 > opt+2xfall-off. Conclusion: distance may be measured from gunner. Than again 1:44 isnt that significantly different from 0:17 or 0:15, statistically speaking. CBA to runner larger sample size though. (note to self: trying guns with larger optimal might help to dicide this one).
Regarding tracking Looking at the formula here http://wiki.eveonline.com/wiki/Turret_damage, I assume that the same distance (from tower or gunner) is applied twice rather than once measured from gun and once measured from tower (or gunner). For completeness sake, I'm going to try to somehow test this on my tower though. Suggestions for the test-setup?

ammo 8 HP KIN 40 HP THERM -50% range bonus
result 16:4 @250 (tower: 290, gunner: 274) 3228 raw dmg
Conclusion This test suggest that distance is measured from tower (gunner is within optimal - given that optimal and fall-off aren't mixed up on arties). This conflicts with a previous result (where tower was out of opt+2xfall-off range). Damage bonus from ammo is clearly applied. Still, range bonus isnt (otherwise dist > opt+fall-off => >50% miss-chance).

Edited by: Pampinus Medusae on 27/01/2010 00:32:20 Hi there!
Great thread. I'm about to set up a small tower in hisec, I was wondering what defenses to use. I have no enemies, but I like a deterrent. Would your small minmatar setup still be the best since the patch(es)? Would 4x small arties miss smaller ships, should I got for 2x ACs, or would anything too fast for the arty to hit not be much of a threat?
EDIT: Would it all fit with a minmatar tower anyway, or do I need domination?
Many thanks, your help on this matter is really appreciated!

My small AC have taken out frigates and destroyers with 1-2 shots (x 4 batteries) before the small artys even fired. I have a domination tower.
My corp mate has a true sansha tower, and its small pulses took out an interceptor.
Recently read how frigates and cruisers were speed tanking small railguns while ganking an AFK Rorqual.
Small blasters have such short range I'd not bother with them.
I'd go with projectiles on everything but Amarr-type towers.

It's hisec, of course. I went for 2 amarr jammers because I figured geddons are probably the favoured ship for hisec pos siege.

Well, in hisec you don't need any defenses online unless you are at war. That will free-up more grid and CPU for labs and aseembly arrays (which can be offlined in times of war so the defenses can be onlined).
Of course, expecting a small tower to survive an attack by even 4 determined battleships is wishful thinking. Luckily they are fairly cheap.
I've seen far worse small POS setups in lowsec, nulsec, and w-space though.

So, to recap:
-Range bonuses from ammo is NOT applied -Damage bonus from ammo obviously still applied as damage on ammo is not a bonus at all, but raw damage -Sentries are calculated from the TOWER, not the sentry itself (Or is it only the activation range?)
Correct?
Also, I have a few questions of my own...
I have a large minmatar POS in a C3 WH. What are your recommendations as far as small guns? I am thinking of maybe keeping a couple small arty and autos online (offline some medium arty to be onlined when an attack is expected) for popping nosey frigs and cruisers. Is this a good idea, or simply a waste of effort (can't hit them, can't target fast enough, don't do enough damage)? PS: This is not part of my signature

My POS in a class 2. Keep in mind I'm paranoid, and heavy into industry. Everything is online unless noted otherwise.
Top: 1 group (4x guns, 4x ECM, 1x web, 1x disruptor) Top ring: 6 groups (2x ECM, 1x web or 1x disruptor) Middle ring: 6 groups (4x guns) Bottom ring: 6 groups (2x ECM, 1x web or 1x disruptor) Bottom: 1 group (4x guns, 4x ECM, 1x web, 1x disruptor)
Domination Control Tower (large) 2x Ballistic Deflection Array 2x Explosion Dampening Array 1x Heat Dissipation Array 1x Component Assembly Array (main storage) 1x Ship Maintenance Array 4x Medium AutoCannon Battery 4x Medium Artillery Battery 4x Small AutoCannon Battery 4x Small Artillery Battery 2x Stasis Webifier Battery 2x Warp Disruption Battery 4x Ballistic Deflection Array (offline spare) 4x Explosion Dampening Array (offline spare) 5x Heat Dissipation Array (offline spare) 5x Photon Scattering Array (offline spare) 4x Medium AutoCannon Battery (offline spare) 4x Medium Artillery Battery (offline spare) 4x Small AutoCannon Battery (offline spare) 4x Small Artillery Battery (offline spare) 6x Stasis Webifier Battery (offline spare) 6x Warp Disruption Battery (offline spare)

Polymer Reactions (online as needed): 2x Biochemical Silo 1x Silo 1x Hybrid Polymer Silo 1x Polymer Reactor
I can do Research with 1 lab and Polymer Reactions at the same time. Most of the time I have 4 labs and 2 assembly arrays active.
Ammo: EMP, Phased Plasma, Fusion, Titanium Sabot (1 gun of each type online for every class of gun).

I plan on placing a tower into a c4 blackhole WH, but i cant decide on either darkblood or domination tower(medium). the other part i couldnt decide was medium or small, but after throwing some mods onto a small tower in evehq, im pretty much set on a medium tower now, unless someone has a great fit for a small tower. what would people more experienced in this matter suggest? in regards to tower type and fit.
i was contemplating throwing up a small tower as a intermediate anyway to build up some cash so i can afford all the towers/mods i need (it would contain prob just a shipmaint array and some hardeners, no guns until i upgrade to the medium). would that be a ill-conceived idea?
from the research i've done, there are very few instances where a dread/carrier could get into the c4, unless their was an incoming c5/6 WH, in this correct? and should i bring a few large weapons, just in case?

Large if you plan to stay forever, medium if you plan to stay a while, small if you plan to stay a short time.
Nobody really bothers to attack a large, as it takes so much effort. Smalls are often reinforced for lols, though rarely destroyed.
Minmatar towers have more CPU and shield than Amarr, and just a bit less grid. They also have amazing sentry bonuses. Projectiles can also do all damage types, unlike lasers.

C5/C6 random OUTGOING (K162 on the C5/C6 side) are the ones to worry about. Usually you will see INCOMING (K162 on the C4 side). I would imagine that both would be common for a C4, as it's not unusual for a wh to connect systems differing by only 1 class.

This is my first attempt at creating a 0.3 sec double reaction POS. Originally I was simply going to make this a passive POS. Make it hard enough to be a waste of time to kill but thought better of it. I added defence if minimal. Now I feel as if I am trying to defend against everything and thus nothing at all.

http://evemaps.dotlan.net/wormholes/
the info provided on that site shows that all wormholes that go into C4 (e175, m609, o128, t405, x877, y683, z457) have a maximum jump mass of 300mil kg. does this not mean that no carrier/dread could ever pass into a class 4 wormhole?
to my understanding, all WHs that lead into a C4 are listed right there. As such, with none of them being in the 1.3bil kg range, no cap ships could ever be passed into my wormhole by any means short of producing it there. If those assumptions are wrong, please correct me.
About the decision from large/medium tower, given the manpower that will be in the WH with me, a large tower could pose problems for fueling. I'd much rather go with a medium.

the info provided on that site shows that all wormholes that go into C4 (e175, m609, o128, t405, x877, y683, z457) have a maximum jump mass of 300mil kg. does this not mean that no carrier/dread could ever pass into a class 4 wormhole?
to my understanding, all WHs that lead into a C4 are listed right there. As such, with none of them being in the 1.3bil kg range, no cap ships could ever be passed into my wormhole by any means short of producing it there. If those assumptions are wrong, please correct me.
The mass limit of a wormhole is determined by the system it is outgoing to (the side that is K162). So a C4->C6 will allow capitals, and a C4<-C6 will allow battleships.

assuming info in that thread is true, the C4>>C6 connection would only be a U574, which is also a 300mil kg connect.
and i know that a C4>>C6 connect is not the static for my system
on a side note. i grabbed this fit off the first page. does anything stand out as needing to be changed for w-space? i would of course have shipmaint/corphangar in there somewhere btw.

OK, after looking hard at this and other threads and resources, I have come up with this for my new Wspace POS.
(on) = online most times... some are taken offline to make room for other defenses or special use items
(off) = spare or for special use
1x Domination Control Tower Large
2x Corp Hanger (on) 1x Ship Hanger (on) 1x X-Large Ship Assembly (off) [for compressed ore storage] 1x Ammunition Assembly (off)
2x Shadow Warp Disruptor (on) 1x Shadow Warp Disruptor (off) 1x Shadow Warp Scrambler (off) 2x Domination Stasis Web (on) 3x Ballistic Deflection (on) 1x Ballistic Deflection (off) 3x Explosion Dampening (on) 1x Explosion Dampening (off) 2x Heat Dissipation (on) 1x Heat Dissipation (off) 1x Photon Scattering (on) 1x Photon Scattering (off)
4x Dread Guristas Jammer (1x of each) (on) 4x Dread Guristas Jammer (1x of each) (off)
4x Angel Small Autocannon (on) 4x Angel Small Autocannon (off) 4x Angel Small Artillery (on) 4x Angel Small Artillery (off)
4x Domination Medium Autocannon (on) 4x Domination Medium Artillery (on)
2x Domination Large Autocannon (off) 2x Domination Large Artillery (off)
This is for setting up a corp in Wspace, so it will start with site running, move on to Rorq-supported mining, and then add a 2nd POS for T3 production etc. I plan on farming neighboring systems when they are un-occupied, and only using the native sigs on "rain days' when the neighboring systems are occupied. This keeps the home system viable longer, making it less likely we will need to drag this whole setup to another system.
-----------
EVE HQ POS Fitter puts optimal and falloff range bonuses and penalties on all ammo, so I am still researching and tweaking ammo choices for best damage mix and range.

You didn't mention what class of w-space system. Looks like C4/C5/C6 with the large weapons.
Probably just missing ISK with all that faction gear.
As for ammo, half EMP and half Phased Plasma are the way to go.

Class 4 Pulsar is target system, as we are mostly Caldari and like the shield boost. Class 5 will be the next in line after we have our act together farming a few C5 sites. I try to plan for the future on large investments.
I know it is expensive, but I like the stats on those modules. Isk is a lot easier to replace than a wspace home.

I'm interested in what people think about this setup as I'm also looking to run two simple reactions at a POS. Havent decided on POS race yet, either caldari or gallente. gallente have the silo bonus while the caldari has more cpu for defense. any recomendations and fittings for these? Honestly, two large arty aren't going to blow up any dreads, especially without energy neuts on there. I would personally drop both of them, and replace them with 4 small ac, 4 small arty, a few medium ac, an energy neut, ECM if you can fit it, etc, etc. Whatever fits. That way, anything sub-capital will be severely taxed.
That's at least my opinion.

I wouldn't drop them completely, but rather add more large + neuts, and keep them all offline. If you are manning the defenses, online and try to defend. Otherwise they aren't going to be very effective against a dread when not manned; it takes gunner teamwork to kill a dread.

Hey guys I'm in need of a good POS setup
Our corp recently put up a Caldari large tower in 0.0 space. We used caldari bc we already owned one and bc we wanted to be able to fuel it with ice from the region. Unfortunantly the area we set it up in is pretty hot. I know the Caldari towers are not exactly a bastion of defense but I still need to come up with a setup that will deter attackers to a degree. I'm thinking along the lines of defending against a fleet of 50-80 with 0-1 capitals. I don't expect this tower to hold up against a 200 man cap fleet. I have never used an ewar setup in 0.0 but that is what I was thinking, has anyone had luck with something similar? Here's what I came up with. The modules that will always be online are 2 m labs, corp hanger, ship maint, silo, moon miner. The POS is kind of a base for us with an edge toward industry. We also have an offlined intensive refinery and medium ship array.

If you want turrets, use projectile sentries on anything other than Amarr control towers (lasers are in fact decent on an Amarr tower, and Amarr towers can fit a ton of them). Use EMP + Phased Plasma for ammo (multi-frequency for lasers).

I've been planning to setup a POS in a C1 or C2 WH (depending on what I can find), preferbly unpopulated by the time I settle. The POS just needs to hold a corporate hanger for me to drop any loot/materials in and the rest of the CPU/Grid can be used for defenses. I was thinking about perhaps a Ship Maint. Array, but I'm not planning to move in dozens of ships, just a hauler, a plexer and 2 cov-ops.
Minmatar Small Tower Corporate Hangar Array x1 EW - Warp Disruption Battery x1 EW ECM - Ion Field Projection x 4 EW ECM - Phase Inversion x 4 EW ECM - Spatial Destabilization x 4 EW ECM - White Noise Generator x 4 Turret - Projectile - Autocannon, Small x 7
Any ideas if this could fit my purpose. It's only used to store stuff ready to be shipped out to hi-sec and to provide a semi-safespot for me and my alt(s)

In general small towers are not good for permanent residence. I'd go with at least a medium.
Use a component Assembly Array instead of a corporate hangar; 71% of the storage space and half the grid usage. I live out of one on my large Domination, so you certainly can too.
Here's what I'd recommend if you really want a small (use multi-frequency crystals, and don't forget the strontium!):
Amarr Small Tower 1x Component Assembly Array 1x Ship Maintenance Array 2x Stasis Webification Battery 2x Warp Disruption Battery 2x Ion Field Projection 2x Phase Inversion 2x Spatial Destabilization 2x White Noise Generator 4x Small Beam Lasers
EDIT: You can add 2 more small beam lasers if you keep the SMA offline, and only online it when necessary (for the fitting service mostly).

I think I made 35 million clearing 6 anomolies yesterday in our C2. We try to keep the place clean so that visitors don't stick around. Then there are attached systems to farm (we have a C3 static) and ore/gas to harvest now and then.
With two other corpmates in a C3 recently, we were averaging over 100 million/hour (8 minutes a site). That's more than enough in one evening (my split was over 400 million) for a large for a month.

You can lock multiple targets if you want.
It is not recommended though. You always want to concentrate your fire.

The guidence for various POS setups is to look at what we have used and just apply basic principles to your situation using MY POS software.
There really is no hard and fast rule... other then NOT using missle batteries exclusivly. If you want to add them as extra go for it but they will be dead weight if your POS goes into reinforcement. (Always have non-cpu batteries as your basic gun setups)

IGB POS Planner * Pro: Maintained. Most up-to-date. * Pro: Shows counts for modules of the same type. * Con: Doesn't show resists. * Con: Can't add more than 10 modules of one type in a single operation. * Con: Removing modules resets the Show Faction Modules switch.
EVE Online POS Builder * Pro: Shows resists. * Con: The drop-down won't go away unless you click on the structure menu. * Con: Doesn't show counts for modules of the same type. * Con: Not maintained. Doesn't have any post-Apocrypha T3 & soverignty (there are equivalents for CPU & PG).

War is comming so I online the defenses, and discover that nothing anchored at max range will online
Seems that over downtime, all the modules at max range got disconnected from the POS. They were no longer considered to be near a POS, even though they show-up in the management window.
The only solution was to unanchor them (as they are not connected to a POS, at least I could do multiple modules at the same time), re-launch and re-anchor them closer.
So much for the experiment of trying to spread things out beyond smartbomb range (modules were 14 km apart). Lesson learned.

Does Ammo Effect Range Of Arty?
Gavin DeVries said,
"NO.
While damage of ammo affects the damage of the battery, range modifiers do not.
No ammo will increase (or decrease) the range of a POS battery. If you want auto-cannon batteries, use EMP, Fusion, or Phased Plasma (Republic Fleet if you can afford it). Most people recommend EMP or Phased Plasma because Minmatar guns normally do explosive, and thus they'll tank against it."

For BS and below just one. (Even the normal ECM batteries have a 75 jamming strength. You have a good chance to even jam carriers with them)

Depends on what is being jammed, and whether it is on-racial or off-racial.
For example, a Rokh with sensor strength of 24 (the highest base of all battleships) jammed by the off-racial ECM (signal strength 15):
15 / 24 = 62.5%
With two off-racial jammers:
1 - (1 - 15/24)^2 = 85.94%
With an on-racial jammer, it is 45 / 24 or very likely 100%.
Keep in mind that Caldari towers cycle rapidly. So though the jam duration is shorter, a Caldari tower is more likely to get a jam while locked. Trust me in that it is extremely annoying even off-racial with ECCM.
Faction ECM like Dread Guristas (off-racial 25), pretty much always jam.

T = (40000/X)/(asinh(Y)^2)
Where: T = the time to lock X = scan resolution Y = sig radius of the target

I've made a change or two and added the bottom section. But this is now what I have in the front page on the topic:
Gun Placement
Gun placement seems to make a differece. See BoB POS setup below. BoB's Titan Staging DeathStar
Night Tripper said, "I believe spreading your guns, out like the BoB setup, is helpful for ensuring you are evenly defended from all sides."
Gamarus said, "I have one point about placement of guns, or more precisely, scramblers at especially your cynojammer towers; namely spread them as far as possible from the cynojammer and each other.
The reason behind this? Cynojammers will be attacked by battleships, and most often, by close range RR (Remote Repping) battleships. By spreading the most important targets you force the attacker to slow boat from one objective to another as they cannot warp from the tower to reposition themselves without leaving scrambled ships behind. It is very difficult to travel as a group and thus you get chances at catching ships outside RR range."
After the Goons killed off my medium POS in Jatate I decided to put up my version of a "Death Star" in high sec. Below are some pics of what I did.
I have the batteries spread out a lot so they can't just bring smartbombing BS's & take out most of your stuff. The bottom & top have the Warp Scramblers w/autobatteries. The sides have the long range arty w/ecm arrays.
Since distance is measured from the tower and not the gun I put my guns as close to the POS as possible for easier repping of them if needed.

Recently I noticed that there were a lot of Worm Hole POSÆs destroyed by various groups but mainly AHARM. (See below links) Since I deal a bit about POSÆs I decided to write to one of the leaders of the groups whoÆs POS was killed off and asked them if they might share how their POS was destroyed and what they did and what thoughts they might have now after the fact. Below is what he wrote.
Since many of the tactics used below apply to POS takedowns.. if you want to share your thoughts on how to make a POS take down harder please do so.
Killboard Links:
AHARMÆs POS Kills Discussion Of AHARM vs CCRES POS Attack Rooks And Kings WH POS Kill
Introduction:
ôI did read your mail when I received and had some thoughts on the subject; however, in light of Aperture Harmonics conquest of Capital Construction, no amount of prep can prevent someone determined to invade a wormhole.
I do still think there are things that could be done to help. But to point out the first weakness is timezones. Our invaders with the help of Aperture Harmonics (AP) probably had been scouting our WH for weeks prior to the actual attack. They found our downtime/weak time and started the attack. One lesson learned and this one can be debated, controling stront levels. We filled our stront to the max, 1 day 17 hrs. When they attacked, they did it with the mind that the towers would come out of reinforced in their strong time, our weak time. Most do plan for that. Next time we will probably limit out stront levels.
While our POSes were not the best defended, btw I did read/use your post, they could have been set up better. We had towers that we use, some for production and some for labs and storage. Because of all the suff we had/used inside the POS, it was hard to have a lot of onlined defenses. In the future, we will be setting up deathstars for all of our major goodies and have production POSes as kind of throwaways if you will.
As also I would recommend, dividing your Cap fleet between towers so they all won't be bubbled up at one tower.
During the attack:
A. - They pushed hard to control the WH. Bubbling the static and blowing the non static WHs. B. - They only used dreads to hit the tower so the Ewar mods we had were useless. Nuets are nice. Having POS gunners great. Spacing mods around the tower making it difficult to incap. C. - Once the towers were in reinforced no less then 6 lrg bubbles, mostly T2 were placed around the towers making escape impossible except in fast or cloaky ships. D. - They had eyes on all of our towers. Mostly cloaked so most attempts to remove the bubbles and their fleet would respond. E. - Getting help from the outside was very difficult and our number inside made a counter-attack hard. We did try and if we had a few more number could have pushed the attackers back. The advantage will always be, this is your wormhole/home. You know how it behaves. You from what I gathered, live in a CV WH. Use the worehole to your benefit. Have your fleet always set for RR. Triage carriers can tank alot. F. - During reinforced, they used mostly fast ships with webs and scrams. Vagas, Rapiers, Arazus, some T3, and logis, at least 3 at most times.
Some things to think about: :
- Stront levels - Deathstars then throw-away towers (keeping all non-used BP, T3 materials at the DSs) - continual wormhole scanning (keeping track of sigs to make it easier to scan for new sigs)ö

My Thoughts On Above Comments:
He has a lot of good information. I like the idea of throwaway Reaction POSÆs. (Normal towers that you have no defenses at and just let them die if attacked). Stong timing is another great idea. Keep it in mind. (Now that I written this many will know.. that I know. So will I or wonÆt I change the Strong timing on ours??
I do disagree with spreading your caps around. If you do this you will be inviting to be defeated in detail. Which means you are spread out and they can concentrate their forces against only part of yours. You want your forces concentrated.
You have all the caps in offline Ship Hangers at your DeathStar. And have all the cap pilots logoff in cloaking ships. This way when they do bubble your tower you can just fly right by them and online your ship hangers and pull your caps out one by one.
What I would do is have all your caps have a book mark that is just inside the POS. You probably should do all this before being under attack. Get your caps out and have them all one one side of your POS and line them side by side about 2,000k apart. (They can be stacked up as well) Have them just inside the POS. Have all of them make bookmarks. Then have them all go forward to be just outside the POS. The caps should be able to just stick part of the ship out of the shields to be able to target and let fly their fighters. Have them make bookmarks there.
The idea is your guys can jump in there caps and the select the inside POS bookmark and not worry about going outside the POS too soon. Once all caps are ready and it is time, they all select their ôOutside POSö book mark and then will glide out. Once there you want to setup your spider tank.
Spider Tanking:
I would suggest that each cap should have is 2 cap remote energy transfer mods and two remote shield repping mods and no internal booster. (You will probably not have the grid to have the booster in as well as 4 cap mods too) This allows all of your carriers to spider each other and send energy and or shields to each other. I would also have one extra energy cap transfer in you hanger because cap is the one thing that other try to suck out of youà to kill your caps.
You should also have 4 each of heavy neuts and smartbombs. Realize that when you are within 2,500k of each otherÆs caps you can change out any mods. So if you decide it is time to suck out the cap of enemy ships have some caps switch out to nuets. Suck the cap out and have your other ships and batteries kill the ships. Then you reship back to cap/shield reppers.
What you are going to do with the caps depends on what is going on. You might want to have them all shield rep the battery/tower your enemy is shooting atà slowing down their POS takedown. (Obviously if they start on your caps you use some reppers to keep shields/armor high) You might want to keep a few carriers with nuets in and if any enemy ships approach have their cap sucked and batteries hit to kill them.
The idea is to have a concentrated Spider Tank that is unkillable. If the enemy canÆt kill your caps then your batteries will kill them. Use your batteries as the hammer and the caps/fleet as the anvil. (Bubble/jam/web suck cap)
Have a few fast tanking BSÆs that you can use to help push caps back inside your POS if needed.
If you use Dreads they will try to suck cap and kill them. If you have the dread go into Siege just outside your POS and if they look like they are going down then have your fast ships go out and push the Dreads back in the POS. Use the caps to rep them when they are attacked. Obviously you need to use your carriers to rep your small ships as needed.

If you think you can take the aggressors on without your POS defense then do so. But if they are a far larger group, then you want to use the offensive power of your POS to hit them. Use your carriers to rep the tower back to life, keep your ships repped and eventually the aggressors will give up and leave.
You should have a mix of armor reppers and shield reppers. Have extra remote cap mods stored in your Rorquals to include cap remote hull reppers. Your hangers will go offline if POS is in reinforcement so you should have extra PvP mods for your smaller ships stored in rorquals so you can transform your PvE ships over as much as you can to PvP ships.
Keep at least three extra months of POS fuel in the worm hole just in case. I canÆt imagine any one wanting to stick around for 3 months to kill you.
These are some of my thoughts. What about yours?
EDIT: THis link just in: Storming the Fortress of Absurdity Or: Rooks & Kings vs Aharm
What seems to be clear from page 9 is that the ship described is allowed to be used.

About Concentrating Your Caps:
Let's say you have quite a few carriers in your hole.. at least 8 or more. Four-five will still allow a great spidertank.
Many times your apponent will not put their Dreads within easy warp jamming/nueting range. But to kill them that is what you have to do to them.
So you could take 3-4 carriers and put cloaks in them and log them off in safe spots. Then once they put their Dreads in siege you logon your carriers (or have them already logged in cloaked) and have a cloaking ship move close enough to them so that when your caps land they are within 50k or less of your other carriers but hopefully close enough to the dreads to web/jam/nuet them. This way you still are able to Spidertank all your carriers and kill the dreads.
If they put the dreads too far out to do that then you should clear away the bubbles first and then you will have a clear field to warp out of your pos to ss and then come back to bubble/nuet them in force.
A fleet I was in of 7-8 Dreads and 3-4 carriers in 00 space was decimated by another fleet of 8-9 carriers which spidertanked, sucked the Dreads cap and killed them one by one. Our Dreads could not break their shield spidertank no matter what we did.
If all that you are interested in... is holding your wh then just have lots of carriers.

It is a C2 with a static to hisec, so people will destroy a small tower if they want the system. It only takes a couple of battlecruisers or battleships to destroy a small tower.
Small towers are more of a temporary base, and should be considered disposable.
Looks like a busy system recently, so I hope that's you getting stuff out and not them brining more ships or their stuff in.

And if you can't put all your stuff in ship holds... just put them in jet cans to dissapear in two hours. Why just give the stuff to pirates: make them mad at all the jet cans that will go poof with your stuff they wanted.

Great thread some really good info in here.
Having recently made the jump into W-Space and setup my first ever POS in a C1 i am looking to turn the system into a massive farm. I currently have an Amarr Medium POS and the following setup:
Amarr Med POS 1 Amarr Medium Control Tower Corporate Hangar Array EW - Stasis Webification Battery EW - Warp Disruption Battery EW ECM - Ion Field Projection x 3 EW ECM - Phase Inversion x 3 EW ECM - Spatial Destabilization x 3 EW ECM - White Noise Generator x 3 Ship Maintenance Array Turret - Laser - Beam, Medium x 5 Turret - Laser - Pulse, Medium x 2 Turret - Laser - Pulse, Small x 3
In a C1 the biggest ship i am likely to face is a Battlecruiser so based on the information in this thread all BC's on grid should be permanently jammed. As long as i spread my arrays out sufficiently they wont be able to come in and Smart Bomb everything.
What i wonder is how quickly would a fully passive tanked drake for example take to kill if i control all the guns and focus him. Can you see any problems with that setup?
The second part of my WH move will involve setting up a Large POS to do Polymer Reactions. For that i have come up with the following setup. Again this is based in W-Space C1. With the obvious ISK possibly running into billions in the polymers value i need to make sure that my setup is sound. So any suggestions would be great.
Faction Large Polymer POS Dread Guristas Large Control Tower Corporate Hangar Array EW - Sensor Dampening Battery, Shadow x 4 EW - Stasis Webification Battery, Domination x 2 EW - Warp Disruption Battery, Shadow x 2 EW ECM - Ion Field Projection, Dread Guristas x 4 EW ECM - Phase Inversion, Dread Guristas x 4 EW ECM - Spatial Destabilization, Dread Guristas x 4 EW ECM - White Noise Generator, Dread Guristas x 4 Reactor Array - Polymer Ship Maintenance Array Silo Silo - Biochemical x 2 Silo - Hybrid Polymer Turret - Projectile - Artillery, Medium, Domination x 6 Turret - Projectile - Artillery, Small, Domination x 6
Is it possible to run 2 reactors from the same 4 silos?
Would the massive expense of the Faction large POS make a significant difference in my survivability over a standard version like this?

Not really. Just have more guns and stuff offline ready to bring online when needed.

No. All materials must be separate and each reaction group is linked only to itself.

Massive? Not really. But about 10% more shields makes it take longer to reinforce or kill off. The largest effect is the lower cost of fuel to run it for a long time. They do cost a lot though.

Hiring Mercs: Retainer or Direct Hire?
When we were in our C6 & right after AHARM had hired NOIR to crush CCRES out of their wh we decided to put a merc corp on retainer just in case AHARM decided to do to us what they did to CCRES. (We had no idea that AHARM knew that Rooks And Kings were in the process of coming to try to kill them out of their whàand they had no interest in attacking anyone at that time). But we decided to put NOIR on retainer so they could not be used against us. (And NOIR does a great job at what they do so why not the best! :o)
You do not need to have mercs on retainerà but if you are attacked you will be scrambling to try to find a group who can help you in the time. (If your opposition does their job right the first indication that you have a problem is your pos is in reinforcement and you have 30+ hours till they can kill it off)
Tactics To Control Your WH
But IÆve been thinking more about the tactics AHARM uses as well as Rooks & Kings. They got into the opposition wh with a scanning alt and a small fleet of ships. They would then control any new static that opened as well as closing or using any other random whÆs to stop the system owners from getting more stuff in (or out) or to get more people inà like mercs.
I have come up with one possible solution: Preposition PvP ships for mercs.
Preposition PvP Ships For Mercs
If you have mercs on retainer you ask them what 10-15 ships they want to use while in the worm hole to defend you. (This could include T2 or BSÆs) Then you buy whatever ship list they give you & you take them to your wh and put into a Ship Hanger. (Do not put it in any corp hanger as you will not be able to get them out when pos is in reinforcement)
Understand that if these ships are ever needed they will probably get blown up. You need to realize that this is part of the cost to saving your POS and all your assets.
Get an extra ship hanger & just put it up out of the way and once all these ships are inside offline it and forget about them till you are attacked.
You can ask them if they want you to also fit out the ships before they come. (This involves them telling you their ship setups and they might not want to do this) If they do not they will have to bring in their own mods.
What this does is it allows your mercs to then use fast/small cloaking ships like buzzards to come into your wh and then reship into the pre-positioned PvP ships.
More Scanning Alts
You are also going to need extra scanning alts. They could be alts on your main but they do not need to be able to do anything but scan & fly a small/fast cloaking ship like a buzzard.
The idea is that you are going to have to have these scanning alts get out of your system in order to get a path for your mercs to get back in. Your opposition is going to try to stop you & kill your alt. If he gets podded he is back in empire & of no use to you then. So you need at least 2 extra scanning altsà and I would ask others in corp to have some as the more you have in the wh the better. (They could quickly be trained to do gassing so they are not a total wasteà and you donÆt have to worry about your main getting podded back to empire when gassing: use the alt instead)
Conclusion:
If you are in a C5 or C6 worm hole I would just realize that you are going to be attacked at some point & make a serious effort to be prepared. Those in lower type worm holes have less chance to being attackedà but it can still happen.
As a personal note, in the past when pirates or anyone demand payment for them not to attack us, I NEVER pay. If we cannot fight them I will hire mercs even if it costs me more isk. If you become known as a group that will give in and pay ransom demands, other groups (like vultures will start circling) and make more demands for isk.

So I asked our merc's if they would like the above idea and they gave the answers below.
Alekseyev Karrde said:
"Make sure you clarify it's NOIR. as we're very proud of our results.
This is a doable process but in practice mercs will want a diverse tool box to work with. Wormhole fights usually mean the targets ship types will be known ahead of time, so the mercs will bring a suitable counter. Stockpiling that many options will get out of hand.
An easier to manage variation would be the same idea but with capital ships, which are much harder to insert/extract and much more versitile (triage thanatos can use shield or armor remote transfers and Dreads dont rely on its support fleets paritcular makeup). Prefit dreads and carriers in the WH for the mercs to use after their intial ambush would be nice for them to have."
I had some more questions and he answered them below.
Q. Would you attempt to break the wh camp to get your ships in?
1. Yes we would
Q. Would it not help to have some of your guys in PvP ships on the inside as well to help break the camp?
2. Sure, but we dont live in your WH. By the time you talk to us your attackers will be camping the entry WH. Cant get to ships on the inside without fighting through them, and for that we need our pilots to already be in combat ships. Q. And for cap ships you would like them to provide a Thanatos as preferred carrier. And Dreads would be nice for you all to use as well? But what your thinking is to have caps for the guys to fly in to use rather then smaller ships?
3. Thanatos is the best carrier to have around because it's so versitile. Have fittings for remote armor, remote shield, local armor, local shield, and triage/nontriage modules on hand for them to tailor as needed.
Yes, they can store their small ship inside the carrier and then switch ships when they're done.
================================
So it appears that while NOIR likes the idea it is not practical for them to have small ships stored for them. (Other merc groups might like the idea... but you will have to ask)
They do like to have caps to use... and while most corps would not be able to do that... we always have extra ones around.

Originally by: Ahro Thariori Conclusion Range bonus/malus from ammo doesn't apply, distance seems to be measured from tower. Or is it? (note to self: test if dps bonus from ammo applies)
I believe this to be inaccurate, or at least the first part; I do agree that distance seems to be measured from the tower as I recently put 50 rounds through a small blaster battery with me sitting on top of it and they did no damage.
That being said, I fired several dozen rounds from a small pulse laser battery anchored to a gallente tower at my hyperion at several ranges and I came up with some interesting results.
@ 15 km from the battery or 50 km from the with multifrequency and got one hit in 30; I was literally tanking it with the shields on my armor hyperion
I then loaded standard and got around 20 hits in 25
I moved out to 40 from the battery, 78 from the tower, and again I got around 1 hit in 30, but when I loaded radio, I took consistant hits.
This says to me that ammo is taken into account when calculating range.

Hmmm I noticed in a lot of your setups you fit twice as much White Noise (Amarr ECM) batteries than the other ECM types. I know Amarr BSes with regular crystals don't use up ammo but are Amarr BSes used that heavily? Especially against a Minmatar tower which has the base EM/Thermal resists you'd think they'd bring something else.
Also, the large arty WH deathstar, how survivable is it in a Class 2 from a roaming POS basher fleet/gang? (as oppossed to a Class 4)

A large arty deathstar in a C2 would be serious overkill and probs never get bothered lol.

My C2 deathstar was never attacked*, despite it having flaws in the defenses (which I didn't realize at the time), and not having most of the defenses online. Most of the time it had very few guns online, as I had labs going (very bad idea, now I do research in hisec only), and a reaction chain at one point.
I think what it mainly had going for it was an insane amount of hardware that could be onlined (I think it had 80 guns total if memory serves), rather than just the bare minimum. Unfortunately, too much faction also attracted attention.
Add to this not opening the statics unless they were going to be used, and the system was overall quite quiet.
* Unless you consider stealth bombers and frigates shooting at a warp disruptor, in I think an attempt to get me to respond by leaving the shield.

Take a look on that whole page.. there is a section on battery placement Originally by: Veliria ...but are Amarr BSes used that heavily?
Actually yes.
Here is some killmails of towers from the two main groups who take out POS towers in WH's. They armor tank with Amarr ships so yes you need more of the White Noise.
AHARM 12 out of 23 ships
CCRES 12 out of 23 ships

C2 wormhole (seemed relevant as that was the topic).
On battery placement, here is what I do on a large POS. It looks a lot harder to do than it actually is.
Trivial Layout The center of the control tower is where the bracket appears. However, this point is between module positions, so you cannot move the lime green anchoring cube there. You have to move it one position above or below the bracket, and one position North/South/East/West of it. I use the position one above the bracket for all modules anchored at the mid-point and above, and one below for all other modules.
Goal: anchor 6 modules as close to the shield as possible.
1. Place the cube on the tower bracket (one above or below as described above). 2. Move the cube 40 steps North, East, South, or West (or until the cube is outside the shield). 3. Anchor the cube. 4. If the cube is too close to the shield, move it one more cube in the same direction and repeat step #3. 5. Repeat from step #1 for the other 5 modules (helps to do opposites first).
Simple Layout Goal: create a 5 module box by anchoring 4 modules around the previously anchored module.
6. Place the cube directly on one of the 6 modules anchored in Trivial Layout. 7. Move the cube 14 cubes away (North, East, South, West) to form a box around the module in step #5. 8. Anchor the cube. 9. Repeat from step #6 for the other 23 modules.
Basic Layout Goal: create 6 pyramids of 6 modules, by adding a peak module on each of the 5 module boxes.
10. Place the cube directly on one of the 6 modules anchored in Trivial Layout. 11. Move the cube 14 cubes away from the force field. 12. Anchor the cube. 13. Repeat from step #10 for the other 5 modules.
Advanced Goal: anchor 8 more modules on diagonals half above and half below the tower mid-point.
The distance from the tower to the original 6 modules placed in Trivial Layout should be 40 cubes from the tower bracket.
The next modules will be placed on diagonals so:
(40^2 / 2)^0.5 = 800^0.5 = 28
14. Place a cube on the tower bracket (one above or below as usual). 15. Move the cube upwards 20. 16. Move the cube North 28. 17. Move the cube East 28 (i.e. so you really moved along a diagonal). 18. Try to anchor the cube. 19. If the cube doesn't anchor, move it away from the shield 1 cube North and 1 cube East, and repeat step #18. 20. Repeat from step #14 for the other 7 modules (again, doing opposites first helps).
Really Advanced Goal: anchor two modules left and right of the modules anchored in Advanced.
Again you must move the cube along diagonals, so for the same 14 cube distance:
(14^2 / 2)^0.5 = 98^0.5 = 10
21. Place a cube directly on top of one of the 8 modules anchored in Advanced. 22. Move the cube diagonally to the left or right, first 10 cubes one way then 10 cubes the other. 23. Anchor the cube. 24. Repeat from step #11 for the other 15 modules.
[u]Even More Advanced
To be continued when I figure the rest out!
Result is 14 pyramids of 6 modules = 84 modules. I so far have 3/5 modules anchored on the final 8 pyramids.

So now that I've posted how to layout a POS (I actually managed to stuff 4 more modules into the center ring), here's what I use for hisec research:
Peacetime
All Defenses offline. Full CPU and grid available for research and manufacturing.
Wartime
Goal: Make the POS as annoying as possible, with high resists, ECM, sensors damps, and warp scramblers.
Don't anchor what you cannot afford to lose!
The guns and warp disruptors can be onlined for use by a gunner (offline some shield hardeners, starting with the thermal one), but otherwise the POS is purely defensive. The POS should be a good force multiplier for a defending fleet, especially with gunners on EWAR.
Caldari Control Tower (large) 2x Ballistic Deflection Array 3x Explosion Dampening Array 1x Heat Dissipation Array 3x Photon Scattering Array 14x Sensor Dampening Battery 14x Wrap Scrambling Battery 6x Dread Guristas Ion Field Projection Battery 6x Dread Guristas Phase Inversion Battery 6x Dread Guristas Spatial Destabilization Battery 6x Dread Guristas White Noise Generation Battery 1x Domination Stasis Webifcation Battery* 1x True Sansha Energy Neutralizing Battery* 1x Domination Stasis Webifcation Battery* (offline spare) 1x True Sansha Energy Neutralizing Battery* (offline spare) 2x Shadow Warp Disruption Battery* (offline) 8x Small AutoCannon (offline) 8x Small Artillery (offline) 8x Medium AutoCannon (offline) 8x Medium Artillery (offline)
Ammunition: EMP, Phased Plasma, Fusion, Titanium Sabot. I am considering switching to Proton and Nuclear in the AutoCannons (artilley has lots of optimal). I really need to do my own tests to see if ammo affects POS battery range first. With my POS layout, the furthest modules (damps) are about 50 km from the tower.
I use warp scramblers as the key modules that all other ones are anchored around, and a damp at the apex of every pyramid group.
* Indicates modules that were squeezed in-between the 4 groups on the middle ring.
Reinforced
Really depends on the attacking fleet what guns are online. Guns at this point are to help protect the defenders that are repping the shield. Chances are AutoCannons will be most useful, but artillery is better for gunners.
2x Small AutoCannon 4x Small Artillery 4x Medium AutoCannon 8x Medium Artillery 6x Small AutoCannon (offline spare) 4x Small Artillery (offline spare) 4x Medium AutoCannon (offline spare)
We've also established an emergency wallet that all members are required to make a deposit into in lieu of having to pay any taxes (my idea, as I hate taxes). The fund is for whatever may crop up, even if that means hiring mercs.

Efficient Storage
There is no real reason to use a Corporate Hangar Array (CHA). All assembly arrays function exactly the same (tabbed divisions), except:
* Assembly arrays can also build stuff. * Assembly arrays can be named, where CHA cannot! * CHA has a right-click menu option to trash items.
First, check out the competition:
Small Ship Assembly Array: 2.0 million mŠ, 100 GW, 250 TF Corporate Hangar Array: 1.4 million mŠ, 100 GW, 150 TF Component Assembly Array: 1.0 million mŠ, 50 GW, 150 TF
So for 40% more CPU you get 43% more storage with a Small Ship Assembly Array, or for 50% less power you get 43% less storage with a Component Assembly Array.
Small Ship Assembly Array is great for a deathstar-style POS which typically have lots of spare CPU. They are also handy for building fighters.
Really Big Storage
Sometimes you need a lot of room, say for mining stuff or living out of it in w-space.
Advanced Large Ship Assembly Array: 19.5 million mŠ, 300 GW, 1000 TF X-Large Ship Assembly Array: 18.5005 million mŠ, 300 GW, 1000 TF Large Ship Assembly Array: 18.5005 million mŠ, 300 GW, 1000 TF
They all have the same fitting requirements, so unless you are building certain types of ships, the clear winner for the most storage is the Advanced Large Ship Assembly Array. It can be anchored anywhere, unlike the X-Large which can't be anchored in hisec.

Nobody is ignoring you, but have you actually read this entire thread? There is plenty of info here, which will likely answer your very broad question.
Every POS is different for different needs. Making recommendations blindly is like recommending boxers or briefs to someone. This thread gives you the info you need to help make your own decisions on what you need to build your own idea of perfect POS.
If you have a specific question after reading the thread that isn't answered, it is likely going to be a very good question. Then we'll have a starting point for further discussion!

So it appears that perhaps crystal type can affect range. Can anyone else confirm/deny that such is the case with hybrid/proj ammo as well? This is one type of reaction that I have no knowledge of how to do. If others would post info about how this is done that would be great. The POS setup would still be the same as the reaction POS setup shown... and just substitute the other type of silos needed.

Originally by: Tau Cabalander Ammunition: EMP, Phased Plasma, Fusion, Titanium Sabot. I am considering switching to Proton and Depleted Uranium in the AutoCannons (artilley has lots of optimal). I really need to do my own tests to see if ammo affects POS battery range first. With my POS layout, the furthest modules (damps) are about 50 km from the tower.
Okay, I've now confirmed that ammo affects lasers and projectile range.
From my results, I can see why it might look like that ammo didn't affect projectiles: the short optimal of AutoCannons.
* Large Caldari tower on SiSi (no bonuses to projectiles). * Medium AutoCannon as close to the force field as possible (35 km from tower). * Large Secure Container (650 m signature) for target at 38 km from AutoCannon (73 km from tower). * Fired 100 rounds with sound on (EVE has sound?) and kept a tally of the messages.
I was trying to get the target 70 km from the tower, optimal + falloff for EMP, but I was a tad further out. I should have used a tractor beam to move it exactly where I wanted, but I didn't think of it at the time. Regardless, it shouldn't have mattered if ammo didn't change the range.
EMP L: 15 optimal * (1 - 0.5) + 63 falloff = 70.5 km effective range 52 hits and 48 misses
Depleted Uranium L: 15 * (1 - 0) optimal + 63 falloff = 78 km effective range 50 hits and 50 misses
Carbonized Lead L: 15 * (1 - 0.6) optimal + 63 falloff = 87 km effective range 68 hits and 32 misses
As you can see, there was definitely a measurable difference of 18% more hits with the longest range ammo. However, there really wasn't a noticeable difference with short and medium range ammo for the sample size.
Now damage was very different. I can't say yet which range of ammo is better based on the damage done. That's more numbers than I wanted to analyze at the time. I might do some more tests while the POS I setup on SiSi still has fuel. I don't think I have the patience for a 1000 round test tho.

Hello!
I'm setting up a medium amarr pos in high sec, and was wandering what are ur thoughts about my setup for defense if war decced. This will be my first POS. So here is what I've got so far:
2 x EW - Stasis Webification Battery 2 x EW - Warp Scrambling Battery 2 x EW ECM - Ion Field Projection 2 x EW ECM - Phase Inversion 2 x EW ECM - Spatial Destabilization 2 x EW ECM - White Noise Generator 2 x Energy Neutralizing Battery 2 x Turret - Laser - Beam, Medium 3 x Turret - Laser - Beam, Small 2 x Turret - Laser - Pulse, Medium 4 x Turret - Laser - Pulse, Small
Another question: Is a medium POS a viable option for a small corp (like 3-5 members) in lowsec for defense, like a mobile home where u can retreat to when attacked?
BTW. very good thread, lots of useful info, thx for doing this guys!:)

You didn't even get past page one, did you?
1. Never use missiles or hybrids. Pretend they don't exist. 2. You don't have any ECM, especially on a tower bonused for ECM.
There is a nice fit on page one for a medium faction tower that can be adapted.
Read the rest of the thread too. It is really worth your time.

You may want two shield hardeners to fill the holes. Make sure to have spare turrets and such anchored too.
Waro scramblin bateeries have a very short range, so I really recommend using more of them, or a warp disruptor (uses 4x the resources, but has a lot more range).

Never lived in lowsec. Spent a couple years in w-space now though.
I think it is possible to live in lowsec with even a small POS. It is all a matter of how valuable the moon is, who your neighbors are, where the system is, etc.
Everyone in my corp owns a large POS. You may want to consider starting with a large.

Hmmmm, thx for the advice, but currently a large POS would be too much work for me/us, and fueling it would also be more costly. And i think if i put it in the wrong system at the wrong moon, it might p*ss off the locals too much, and they tear it down. Or try...:) But either way i would only go for a large POS setup if i have had some experience with POS setups. Don't wana trhow out too much money on the window 'couse of a small mistake and still in the learning here.:)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The reworked setup based on ur feedback for the High sec Med Amarr POS: (99.75% PG uasage and 833.54 DPS based on IGB POS planner)
2 x EW - Stasis Webification Battery 1 x EW - Warp Disruption Battery 1 x EW - Warp Scrambling Battery 2 x EW ECM - Ion Field Projection 2 x EW ECM - Phase Inversion 2 x EW ECM - Spatial Destabilization 2 x EW ECM - White Noise Generator 2 x Energy Neutralizing Battery 1 x Shield Hardener - Heat Dissipation 1 x Shield Hardener - Photon Scattering 1 x Turret - Laser - Beam, Medium 4 x Turret - Laser - Beam, Small 1 x Turret - Laser - Pulse, Medium 3 x Turret - Laser - Pulse, Small
Do i need more med guns and less small ones?
And this is what i think for reserve offlined batteries (basicly everything has double amount of it, and half of it is offlined):
2 x EW - Stasis Webification Battery 1 x EW - Warp Disruption Battery 2 x EW ECM - Ion Field Projection 2 x EW ECM - Phase Inversion 2 x EW ECM - Spatial Destabilization 2 x EW ECM - White Noise Generator 3 x Turret - Laser - Beam, Medium 4 x Turret - Laser - Beam, Small 3 x Turret - Laser - Pulse, Medium 5 x Turret - Laser - Pulse, Small
But i don't really know what should have reserve batteries and how many of them. A basic guideline would be nice on them. (Or maybe i have to try and come up a strategy against my defenses so i can predict what will be needed more)
And when not war decced, the only online stuff would be: 1 x Corporate Hangar Array 4 x Mobile Laboratory And the shield hardeners
And some concernes regarding battery ranges: Does it matter where i put a battery around the shield? Since the ranges are measured from the tower, will they be able to protect each other in any setup?
And thx for helping with this!:)

Made an addition under POS Battles in WH. (Good for most anywhere though)
Curses: Sucking Cap From A Distance
If you have enough guys that can fly curses (4-8) you can put together a fleet of them that can reach out 75k and take out enemy caps (See this link).
This allows you to be able to suck 1,200 cap every cycle. Use your carriers to rep the curses to keep them alive and suck the enemy cap and use your POS guns to hammer them to dust. Keep an Arazu around to jam and a Rapier to web out to 70k as well and you will be able to kill enemy ships even if your POS is in reinforcement.

I'm tempted to say yes, because lasers are the weapon of choice for POS takedowns, as they don't need ammo with T1 crystals, but hardeners really take a bite out of the limited CPU/grid of a medium control tower.
Originally by: Geksz Ok, I tried to sqeeze it in, but i had to offline some turrets for it to fit in. So now i have 1 x scrambler and 1 x disruptor.
You don't have to have it online, but having one anchored might be handy.

Wait. Now I'm confused. Is this for a hisec POS or a lowsec POS? I was expecting hisec, as I previously admitted not having any lowsec experience.
In hisec you can offline all defenses until wardeced. In lowsec, you have to have the defenses online at all times, which really reduces the defensive and industrial capacity. I really don't recommend labs and assembly arrays in lowsec.
Don't anchor what you cannot afford to replace!

Range for turrets is measured from the tower. Range for EWAR is measured from the module.

Originally by: CheckingAmarr What is the current best "EFT for POS" tool? I am especially concerned about accuracy -- most of the tools appear to not have been updated for over a year. So far I'm aware of these:
http://www.vexar.de/pos_fitter/ http://www.cassandraslight.com/menu-my-pos http://eve.1019.net/pos/ http://evehq.battleclinic.com/
MyPos looks like it may be the most recent?
I primarily use the third link, IGB POS planner, now that it has been upgraded to indicate stuff like shield resistances. It is being maintained.
I could never make peace with MyPOS, the second link, though some people swear by it.
I think EVEHQ tries to do too many things, and spreads itself too thin as a result. I've found many bugs in it, though I've not looked specifically at the POS tool. Maybe it has improved since I last tried it, but I've not had a need to go back to it.

I have read this guide (great guide, thanks) and done some other research, but I am still unsure how to configure a new POS in WH space.
We were up between a Caldari Tower for the CPU but decided maybe an Amarr would be a better choice as it has the largest powergrid.
If we did end up doing industry in WH space, is it better or worse than using a station in high sec? Say for Research or for manufacturing?
Also when you refine raw materials in WH space, in the refineries, even the best one says it is only 75%, correct? And my refining skills cannot raise that right? So it is better to crush the ore and cart it to High Sec, correct?
Also what type of weapon set up seems to work best?
Is there a list somewhere that indicates the largest ship that can enter a specific class wormhole? I assume you'll want to alter the size of guns depending on the class wormhole you set up shop in.
Some direction would be appreciated.

Nothing says "Ransom us, we're carebears that can't PvP" like a refining array, labs, and a Rorqual in w-space.
At least with a Rorqual you can put it in a hangar or logout in it (don't leave stuff floating in space for people to see).
I don't recommend doing industry in w-space. It is far better to do industry in hisec, where your BPO are not at risk, and you can dedicate the full CPU/grid of the control tower to industrial pursuits.
If you must do industry in w-space, then I recommend a Minmatar control tower. See the many other posts in this thread for various setups.
Otherwise, the defacto standard w-space control tower is an Amarr.
Don't use faction modules, and don't bring anything into w-space that you cannot afford to lose.
Your best bet for refining is to haul it out. Compression helps a lot, but I don't recommend a Rorqual in C1-C4.
There are numerous wormhole references. Check the Missions and Complexes forum for the topic of exploration.
I like to use: * staticmapper.com * DOTlan * DaOpa's Wormhole Database

I know why you say this... but you do need to make also the statement that if you are planning on living in a C1-C4 wh for a long time then making a Rorqual there could be a good investment. You just have to know going in that you are NEVER taking any caps out.
And I think this is one the of the best sites for quick reference: * WormHole Info

I'm working out setting up a POS in a C3 wormhole. What would you suggest as far as racial tower and guns?
We want this to function as a home base for several people, where we can refit ships and store loot or mined ore for processing or hauling.

First I want to say after weeks of searching for some complete POS guide I didn't find anything that great like this thread. The Author has my big respect.
I'm living in WH for 2 years, now i'm starting to think about building my own POS. After I read most of your advices you prefer arty minmatar large pos. Because im planning to build it up in C5/C6 I also need many neuts against dreads etc. But I still didn't find answer to two things :
1) Why don't use large gallente tower with blasters ? (I mainly like their silo bonus even I know u recommend to make deathstar for reactions). 2) Why everyone do not recommend caldari and their torpedoes. Yes I know they do not shoot once my POS gonna be reinforced. But how about the power of citadel torpedoes? They really do some unbelievable damage especially against capital ships. Citadel + neuts to kill dreads and some nasty jam against bs fleet. Obviously with many "only large torpedoes" against bs fleet etc etc. Is that bad idea?
Your answer I will really appreciative and wish you best of luck and keep doing this great job. Thank you

Turret range is measured from the tower, not the turret.
Look at the optimal + falloff on blasters. Now look at the force field radius.
Blasters are useless on a POS.

Look at the damage multiplier and rate of fire of missiles. Now look at the damage multiplier and rate of fire of turrets.
Missiles are useless on a POS.

Hello guys, I have one question and I apologize if it was already answered before but I can't find it.
I have just bought my first Large Minmatar Control Tower and all modules but I don't know which ammo to use. I am plannnig to build up my POS in C3 so biggest guns im gonna use are medium artillery (primary) and medium autocannons (secondary). Is faction ammo better than T2? From what I could see T2 ammo does more DPS and has better range but faction ammo gives you better tracking. Any advice is welcome.
Thank you

Half guns with EMP (EM + explosive + kinetic), and half with Phased Plasma (thermal + kinetic).
You can optionally throw in some Fusion (increase explosive) and Titanium Sabot (increases kinetic), but they are not required to cover all damage types.
You cannot use T2 ammo in POS modules, only T1 and faction.
Faction is good for artillery (optional), but AutoCannons use a ton of ammo so regular T1 for them.
* Small AutoCannon Battery (750 m3 / 0.0125): 60,000 rounds * Small Artillery Battery (50 m3 / 0.0125): 4,000 rounds * Medium AutoCannon Battery (1,000 m3 / 0.0250): 40,000 rounds * Medium Artillery Battery (65 m3 / 0.0250): 2,600 rounds
For AutoCannons on a RoF bonused tower, that's over 65 hours of shooting! Artillery lasts only about 13 hours though.

Ok and one more question which faction ammo should I use. I mean I know I should use different kind of damage but I still can not decide if I should put ammo with higher damage and less optimal or with high optimal and less damage. Which ammo would u recommend me to use for medium arties in C3 wormhole.
thank you in advance

Artillery has a really long optimal, and a stupendously silly long falloff, so the highest damage / shortest range ammo will do fine (EMP / Phased Plasma).
AutoCannons have such a short optimal and rely on falloff, so there isn't much of a penalty from using the same in them. Most attacks are point-blank at force field, so as long as they have some hitting capability around that range, but they do benefit more from increased range than artillery.
In summary, it really doesn't matter with projectiles, other than damage types.
