Could anybody tell me (step by step) how to run EVE on Gentoo? Is there any ebuild or I have to install it manually? |

You can install it via the "installation files" when you download the small client. Since I'm a noob at Gentoo and linux, it took my a while to figure it out by myself.
So first before you install, make sure you have all these dependencies on that page in the bottom: http://support.eve-online.com/Pages/KB/Article.aspx?id=379
Once you do and once your graphic drivers are installed correctly you can install it. Just decompress the file to a folder and using your terminal, go to the bin folder. You should see a file named "eve". Just type "eve" in that folder and the transgaming installation with pop up. From there, follow the instructions and you'll be able to play it.
if you have any problem, don't hesitate to ask, I got some experience with eve on gentoo which lead me to some frustrations

Yop!
You have an ebuild here on the forum, just need to find it!
Else if you want premium content, more fps, less gfx bugs, no mess in your folders, keep your Cedega install working... You need to download the Windows version and emerge wine-9999 for the latest GIT version.
You may need to install arial.ttf in ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/fonts and d3dx9_36.dll in ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32.

Edited by: Muekos on 10/07/2008 10:02:14 Yep, it installs and runs with the latest ~x86 version of wine and with that d3dx9_35.dll copied in. But I get worse graphics corruption than with the 'linux' client.
The top half of the screen keeps whiting out and I'm getting some sort of block effect around the nose of my Cyclone, both in and outside stations :(
This is with an Nvidia geforce 8800 GTS and the 173.14.09 driver package.
It's a shmae, but until they get one of the clients working I'm screw actually playing the game unless I dual boot back into windows <spit> At least its giving me a chance to max out my combat skills :D :D :D

Turn off HDR and Shadows. If they're already off, turn them on then off again. It may help. --- Kate :: HKG :: PXF |

Nice one!!! Thank you so very much!
Killing shadows & HDR has sorted all my graphical glitches, even the last one of the screen blanking for a sec when leaving the config screen

Now, since you're a good boy and use Gentoo Unstable (you said ~x86, I'm with ~amd64), I can tell you a little secret:
If you update your WINE to 1.1.0 (it's in the portage already, so "emerge --sync; emerge wine" should work), you can now enable HDR!
For me it's working with a "low" bloom setting, and without shadows. I have a GF8800GT, less performant than your one. --- Kate :: HKG :: PXF |

Awww, it pays to be nice ;)
I only run ~x86 on a few specific packages (wine being one of them) so I'm already running 1.1.0
HDR on with bloom on low does seem to behave itself, as does bloom on high !!
Using shadow seems to be what causes things to fall apart, leastways for me anyhow.
