Starting with disclaimer : - this is no way a promotion of other product. If I am gonna promote something I will most probably promote Eve - Just hypothetically speaking. - Someone may have already wrote about this. Sorry.
I found a game. Sony developed it :) It looks pretty promissing. The point is, it is so much like the Eve online concept but it just looks like the continuation of it. PlanetSide (by Sony) her is the link : http://planetside.station.sony.com/
I wish here that CCP and Sony came together and joined the games. - applying the current skillset to the Sony game would be awsome. - New ships in Eve to get to carry stuff onto the PlanetSide - Planet Player Owned Structures. In orbit also. - Add any wish here!
I know Ambulation is the first step towards this! And I know I am just wishing.
It may be good to join forces and avoid inventing the wheel again. It may not realy require much server power, you just add a splash screen to hand you to other servers to FPS on the planet :) Riding the missile! |

Planetside was good in its day - its as old as EVE.
Now a stupidly smallminded publisher (SOE) has taken away all that was good about the game and driven the playerbase away too.
Certainly a contender for "what would EVE be like on the surface" though :D -------

Edited by: MenanceWhite on 09/07/2008 10:04:54 But capsuleers are basicly already super rich on eve-verse. 100'000 isk can buy you a frig. It's probably enough to buy a large piece of land and a building too on any of the planets.
~70bil should be enough to buy a lesser planet or moon actually. If there were any for sale that is.
Think of something simmilar the currently economy, just that 0.01 isk should be around 10 dollar/euro ---

PlanetSide was/is fun enough besides the fact that it's an SOE game and thus more limited then a man in a straitjacket. Also it has the typical "pointless" feeling to it that most MMORPGs share... the exception being UO (at least when I played) and EVE.
The last thing I want is for SoE to as much as look at EVE... all I need to say is "NGE" eh?

I used to love planetside, the huge battles you could have in that were epic. Got a free month of it recently and put that to good use :P

$OE please, not SOE!
The moment I hear Nathan or one of the other CCP guys say they want Eve to be fun, iconic and more sci-fi'y I'm gone! ------- I came, I saw, I drank all the beer! |

The day SoE has anything to do with EVE is the day the death warrant of EVE is signed.

YOU DONT WANT SONY TO WORK ON EVE.... EVER.
SONY is the worst thing that can happen to a game. if sony ever got their hands on eve... it would suck soo much after 2 patches that it would be pointless.
go look up starwars galaxies.. or even planetside is a good example ---------------------------------- Fighting for Minmatar o7 Yes... this is my main. Extreme Troll Slayer...

The day Sonny take this game into its hand will be the day this game go bad. I had enouph of Sony game bringing out 3 - 4 expansions per year with little to nothing adding in its contents and you have to buy every single expansion to be able to progress in games.
Look at EQ and EQ2 man horrible. sony takes control of this game its the day i cancel my account.

Never say never but I do not think you will ever see SOE with CCP. CCP is much to smart for that.

What Sony wants Sony gets. Never underestimate the power of money.
Thing is though, Sony probably doesent really want EvE its no real competition to them.

Its $OE not be confused with our Sisterhood of Eve (S.O.E.)
i would say its a trolling attempt except that nobody is fighting in the thread and are all unanimously against Sony ruining eve which I too agree with would be bad move.

I liked planetside. In beta. But when the population got overwhelmed, Zerging became the only tactic.
There was also no endgame -- I was there one night when our NC army ruled EVERY planet except the home bases. By morning it was over, but that was about the pinnacle of the experience for me.
Core Combat drove off a lot of the fanbase (me included) which made populations go too far in the other direction, and then they did some funky stuff which destroyed my favorite planet to fight on, and consolidated the servers (which they did again recently, so I hear).
RIP, Planetside. Can CCP have your stuff?

Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) is quite possibly the worst game distributor in the known universe.
While planetside was a decent concept, SOE have failed to deliver proper new content for the game for ages.
The SOE model is "screw our existing game portfolio, just buy a new game and add it to Station Access that way people cant complain".
If SOE ever got involved in EVE, the game would collapse overnight. I know I would be cancelling my subscription faster than superman puts on trousers in the morning.

Planetside was awesome, but have to say it woudln't work with EVE. I do hope that in the future with atmospheric flight CCP do begin to look towards planetery interaction (blending with space so assets in orbit are of use in the fight below etc..). Its a dream but could one day become reality.
