Not sure...
Kronos is the only dread that could possibly do lvl5's solo due to drone bay. Carrier I believe is the way to go if you want to try and solo missions.
Siege is a baaaad idea, you will be a sitting duck for any pirate and his homies that happen to scan you down.

Formula One vs Top Fuel dragster
Pros and cons?
Does a Top Fuel dragster cost fuel to keep running while I make a quick trip into the bank? Can any of them haul stuff while I do errands around town and drive to and from work?

because if you haven't played long enough, you ask questions like this. And if you have to ask questions like this you shouldn't be flying the ships.
Moral of the story, don't max the credit card out buying GTCs for a Cap pilot and cap ship, just to fit it with T1, fly it into a blackhole and get ganked while becoming the laughin stock of eve for all of 2 seconds while we wait for the next fail capital fit. Cap boosters and shield extender I's for the chimera anyone?
or come play near me and i can gank you, either way, your asking which way does the gun barrel point and you want to get dropped onto the beach at normandy. Fly your T1, skill up, then these questions will become, DUH!

Dreadnought because all the pirates will be scared of it and warp off if they see you and wont attack you in it.

You need some firepower, yeah, but you can bet as soon as people find you trying to do a mission, firepower will arrive shortly.
As far as the arrogance in the forum, meh, it's a forum. You'll always find that, heh. For the most part I think people are trying to help out by encouraging people with low skills/new to the game not to fly expensive ships until they know how the game works. Sometimes it's taken a bit far imho, and you'll find protectionist carebears encouraging people not to do level 4's until they have 10 million SP or something silly. But here, I think it's fair to say that you shouldn't be buying a carrier or a dread, and in any case they aren't meant for missioning.

simple. because you are asking a ******ed stupid noobish question, that has been answered many many times.
let me lay it out for you.
if you are mission runner you don't need them. if your corp doesn't operate in 0.0 or low sec, you don't need them. if you are a solo player, you really have almost no use for them. if you need to ask "whats better, carrier or dreadnought", like you just did, then you don't need them doing mission in them is pointless, unless level 5 missions... but for that you need a good corp to protect the carrier/dread. this means its still not a solo boat.
carriers and dread require a good corp. they are not solo ships. by the time you feel that you need them you will already know what is better for what. ---------------------------------- Fighting for Minmatar o7 Yes... this is my main. Extreme Troll Slayer...

People usually start out with a Carrier as they are much more versatile. A Dread is mainly for POS warefare.

The first question you need to ask is do level 5 missions have acceleration gates? If so, scratch your idea of using capitals. Most level 4's have gates, and so you'll be limited to doing The Blockade and a few others, and then only if you bother to jump into the system where the mission is located. The second question is whether it's really worth your time to jump your capitals to the mission system every time. As far as pirates, 5 unsupported carriers/dreads are out of the range of some gangs, but don't get it in your head that you can't be killed, heh. And at the end of the day, you have to ask is this remotely worth the cash you'll spend and risk. The answer should be no.

You want a carrier, dreads are for POS sieging / kill caps. Carrier is one of the most useful all round ships to be able to fly.
Nothing special, not big or clever, just 20 fighters and one hell of a tank.... |

It's likely to attract anyone in for a laugh in a 15-25 jumps radius. Nothing make people run as fast as hearing "capital tackled", and by running I mean toward the tackled capital. -- Coming to you, Assault Ships fix, by the people saying that the Gallente Recons are fine. |

Carrier is best for missions as long as you fit with faction/ officer moduals. Will make lvl 5's a brease.
P.S. Where will you be running missions?? |

he is giving very good advice, capital ships are for destroying other cap/supercap ships and sieging pos/outposts, not much use other than that

Dont run missions in either one.
Yes the dread uses fuel.
The difference is the dread is used for anti pos and anti cpital, whereas the carrier is used for anti everything else.

A carrier might be useful for a few Lv5s that allow it, but caps really aren't missions ships. You can tank Lv5s with much lighter ships and a carrier doesn't really dps any better than some of the nicer mission BS fits.
As for a dread, the moros does have nice drone dps but siege mode would be pretty much worthless in a mission. You wouldn't hit jack.
Using a cap in a mission also makes you a big target for anyone roaming through, not just pirates, and even a cap could potentially get taken down by one of those missions that has a bunch of nasty neuters if mistakes are made.
So in short, pick the right tools for the job, dreads are for shooting caps and posses, carriers are for general logistics and support... neither is a great mission ship.

Well, with all the folks palatherin about nothing and flaming about everything. I am going to answer the question to the best of my ability.
Dreads are great for 1 shotting stationary targets but suck for moving ones unless going under 50m/s and are at least 100k away from you. They have a sizeable tank and are great for hauling things jump-freighter style.
Carriers are the same way but have no minimal range limit due to their ability to throw out lots of drones.
Those are just some very brief aspects of the two. But as said above you shouldnt use them for doing missions/ratting/plexing EVER. These ships are meant for corp-to-corp, alliance-to-alliance, or cap ship warfare. If you dont have the skills to run level IV's or greater in a BS class ship or lower spend the next 6 months working on your skills but work for tanking first as a dead ship is a lost ship, after that work on your weapon skills.

Because people look at their skillpoints total and their killboard score and get a superiority complex. They also spend so much time of their no-life gathering so much knowledge about the game that they feel the need to come here and brag about them knowing it all and you being 'a noob that ask pointless questions and dont deserve to be in a carrier or even think about getting one eventually'.
Thats basically why. I didn't bought an account, know pretty much all about the game and those guys still makes me want to puke.
And I'd say the carrier is the most versatile of the two. The other just shoots POS and capital ships.
