Heya folks. In preparation for a website launch as well as some major advertisement work, I realized that Eve Online Hold'Em doesn't even have a logo. =/ So I would like to remedy this. So here's what I would like to do:
The Mission: Produce a creative, stylish logo for EOH. Somewhat Vegas, somewhat business. The Reward: A minimum of 500 Million ISK to the logo I and the staff like best and choose to use. Depending on how mind blowing it is, I may pay more. The Protocol: Link to your images in this thread. Use watermarks to protect your work. The Deadline: Midnight, EVE time, next Wednesday evening (one week from today -- July 16th).
I am really looking for any and all ideas here. No special requirements, other than (most likely) the use of the acronym EOH in the logo. The image should be fairly compact so as to be worked into a website header, forum sig banner, ad banner, etc. There is a chance we will pick none and pay no one if none of the logos are acceptable (i.e., we're not paying 500m to a crap entry if they're the only one who submits). If I am missing out on important information, please ask, and I will update this as soon as I see it.

A little note, the bottom of the chip got clipped off, but the full resolution version is round.

Also, this is a version for when the logo will be too small for the interior of the chip to be visible, for example, in avatar pictures, small ads, etc.

Had a little play about and came up with this
It's still a bit rough but I can refine to your specs if you like it.
I think looking at it now maybe the castle looking casino is a bit too disney, Maybe a pic of the Las Vegas strip would be better. _ Sec & Sat's Lottery |

Just something simple and clean I made, using Eve's racial symbols as the card suits:
Above is the original size. It's a PNG file with a transparent background, so it can be opened in a program such as Photoshop and dropped onto any image/banner/ad. I figured you wanted a logo you can just drop onto anything in the future. Just for example:
When scaled down to a smaller size it's still recognizable:
Either way good luck with EOH and your logo. =)

Wow, I'm surprised to see multiple submissions already. I will try to post feedback later in case any of you want to provide additional submissions based on said feedback. Keep them coming =)
Also do try to keep the images smallish, or link to the images if they are huge, I don't want us getting whacked.

Wow... I was planning on toying around in photoshop to see what I could do, but I'm really impressed w/ phirephy's first submission. Classy, clearly poker, and not overdone.
Guess I'll have to find another way to get rich =*(

Please don't let that deter you from trying. While I like a few things about each of these, none of them make me go "that's it, I wish I could close the competition now, that is the one."
As for feedback:
Phirephly: Not sure how I feel about the yellow behind the service text. Chip is nice, cards are creative, overall concept needs more detail to it.
Satrani: Yeah, first one is waaaaay too Disney =P The whole fabulous thing is cute, but not my style. I'm also not sure how I feel about the giant poker chip bloom thing on the left. It's neat, but a bit much? Vegas strip shot might be a nice background fade for a banner.
Umbra: Chips + Cards is a nice idea (sucking up with my portrait, I like it though =P). I like the last one the best I think, but it's much more of a banner than a logo. Chips/Cards are a little too bright/plasticy? The chip itself could work for a logo, but it needs something more.
So I like what I see, but none of them jump out at me. I do like the brightness/crispness, but the brightness needs to be more under control, and more of that EVE-Industrial feel would be awesome. Crisp black borders are something I've always liked. Thin, sleek (metallic sometimes?), and making an image stick out. Not sure what else to throw out there.
Perhaps I should clarify also that I am really focusing on the logo itself, as opposed to the banner it's presented on. I would like something that we can place in many different contexts and types of banners.

Yeah the actual banners weren't logo ideas, just showing how it looks dropped on them. I kind of have a better idea of what you're looking for now so I'll see if I can come up with something better in the following days.

Colors are fully adjustable of course, may be used large or small, transparent backgrounds etc. Orbs could be taken out of the metal if you're not into that. Some good submissions already in this thread, thought I'd try something a little less Vegas.

Edited by: Selene D''Celeste on 11/07/2008 16:57:55 I like Phi's new entry. Not sure what to say about it though. Very creative Xelios, I never would have thought of that. I almost want to make that a button and hand them out (fanfest?) =) The 'EOH' is a little stretched though, but it doesn't look that bad all in all. Still a bit odd. Not sure what kind of feedback to give. Button.
I like the variety in ideas. Keep em coming folks!

If I may reply on that, I think Xelios is going for a more sci-fi approach. EVE is in the very far future, so chips and cards will evolve to one may think. All in all I like Xelios design, it's quite a nice logo (other entry's are also well done). I might give it try also if I can find the time.
well and a free bump
edit: to Satrani. Your design looks very nice, although it's more for an event-announcement. If you want to work more to a logo, you could pick out the white part of your design, with the words 'welcome' and 'EOH' and work from there. Maybe replace the white color for a nice picture, or color variation. Just a thought

I might suggest for all people working on this. I spoke with Selene yesterday and the topic of print media came up. I'd recommend entries be to traditional print media specifications, just to be safe.

Thanks for the feedback. I didn't get a whole lot of ideas from it, but I added a few more variations to my post. Fonts, colors and general layout are all changeable, you just have to let us know how you want it and a font you like. On the other hand if you don't like the design as a whole you should tell us that too, so we can scratch it and work on something else.
As far as the print media Phirephly mentioned, if you need logos for publication/printing (?) let us know, because there isn't much point in 2-300 dpi graphics for web use, and certainly not if you want it to be "compact". |

My apologies, I should be more specific. I would like the logo primarily for the web, but I also want the logo -concept- to be workable in print media.

Print media is any medium where there is an act of printing onto the canvas, for example, magazines, newspapers, tee shirts, box art, etc. The standard for print media is 300 DPI CMYK. In the form of corporate identities (logos), it is often that the images are in a vector instead of a raster format, allowing for unlimited scalability. (For example, my logo can be put in a small 72 DPI avatar at 50x50 pixels, or it can be expanded into a 48x14 foot billboard and still retain image quality)

We're getting a lot of fantastic entries here, I really didn't expect this. I'm also wondering if Wednesday is too soon to halt this. How do the current applicants feel about extending the deadline until next weekend? Also given the nice variety and quality of logos I'm seeing here, I'm seriously considering 100m runner-up prizes for the use of (some) logos that don't win. I want to mention both of these things now to see if anyone has a problem with either alteration/addition to the contest? |

Nope. And unless there are any objections, I am pushing the deadline back to the weekend, let's say Saturday night, 12:00 EVE time. That way I can check in with the staff on the weekend (when most at least stop by) and it gives you all more time / some weekend time, to work on entries.
