Originally by: Xelios A frigate will still be helpful in fleets after the patch, as will cruisers. They won't be AS helpful as they are now, but there's no reason they should be. Frigates launching cruise missiles has been rediculous, ever since beta I've wanted to see it changed as it would have fixed many problems before they even arose. It seems like you want any noob in a frigate to be as useful in a battle as a guy in a battleship with 10 million sp... I'm sorry that's not going to happen. Frigates have their role, and while they may not be terribly useful in a battleship fleet war they damn well shouldn't be, they cost 500x less than a battleship. Frankly the fact that 4 frigates can destroy a battleship is apalling and I am really amazed that you consider that to be balanced gameplay.
Anyone who holds the opinion that just because something costs more, that it should be invincible doesn't know a thing about how weapon systems (in any reality that makes sense) really work. There are countless examples throughout history of weapon systems that are tens of thousands times cheaper to build than the damage output they do. Hell, a book of paper matches (which most stores that sell tobacco will give you for free) can burn down an office building causing millions of dollars in damages. Originally by: Andrew Jade As for intereceptors and people whining, they were never meant to be cruise missile using/spamming ships.
I find it amazing that people consider 9 cruise missiles a minute (plenty of time to hit that shield booster or armor repairer) "missile spamming". That's assuming you're using a Crow, otherwise it's 6 cruise missiles/minute. I don't count Kestrels, because they're too slow and unmaneuverable to be a real threat (read: easy kill).
And to anyone who thinks that the "role" of a frigate is to warp scramble/stasis web: If a frigate is merely mobile spare midslots for a cruiser or battleship and not a ship in its own right then it doesn't have a place in the game. Balance is when any player can fly any ship through 0.0 space solo and actually survive. Right now, you can do that. If you know what you are doing, you can do that.
I did a test on Chaos with a friend. I flew a Rifter fitted with 280mm Howitzers, and he a Raven. With the current state of Chaos, I could not hit the Raven if I was moving at all. I fired like there was no tomorrow, and I landed about 3 shots out of 50. So what did he do? Unleashed drones, scrambled and webbed me. I was dead in about 15 seconds. So effectively, battleships are the top ships again, any everything else is worthless unless you want to be "support" which is EVE slang for "extra target".
I am against these changes, unless CCP wants to come clean and admit that we are in fact paying to beta test (in which case I want a full refund as I have been playing and paying under the assumption that I was recieving a full retail quality product) as making changes to things more than a year after the game was supposed to have ended its beta test shows just how glaring the flaws are in this product.
