1) Work an extra 3 hours per month at job at McDonalds 2) Carebear an extra 5 hours per month for ISK to buy GTC 3) Goto church and steal from donations jar 4) Downgrade internet service from cable to dial-up 5) Quit smoking cigarettes 6) Quit smoking weed 7) Cancel subscription to Seventeen Magazine 8) Cancel subscription to internet **** site 9) Quit drinking beer...wait, scratch that...drink cheaper beer 10) If you're a female, pose nude and sell pictures on **** site. Yeah, because there are real players out there who do nothing but scout for other people, for instance.
Originally by: Ekrid All the anti-wow sentiment says that people who have 23 hours a day to play always stay ahead, and with eve its different because skill training is constant.
Well guess what. Its the same with isk making. There will still be people always ahead because they are catassing no lifers who play 3-90 alts a day, making fists of isk, while legitimate players who actually have lives get undercut, overbid, suicide ganked, and jet can flipped by a bunch of throwaway alts.
yeah, thats real good for the game.
10/10. You worked in a comparison to WoW, the idea that you can be 'ahead' or 'behind' in an MMO, various ad hominen attacks and comparisons, and yet managed to make it flow like a real complaint. -

Having real thief alts is no different.
people with too much time on their hands have so many alts making money, there's no way to compete.
I thought the reason CCP pushed the multiboxing concept for their game was to lessen alt activity, while making people pay a price for more alts.
But they still havent gotten rid of the multiple alt slots for single accounts. CCP should lengthen the termination time of character slots to a month required before they can be biomassed.
Removing the two of the three slots from the accounts is a subtraction of services that in order to compensate would force CCP to lower their account price to 5 dollars an account. This will then have the effect would make alting EASYER as you can then have 3 accounts going for the price of one which in turn worsens your proposed problem.
Long story short..... NO.
Fact of the matter is you shouldnt hand out your trust so willingly in both EvE and real life. Does a bank hand the keys of the safe to someone they just hired off the street and not expect to get robbed? No, so why should you trust someone with your corp assets that you just hired out of the space port? -------------------------------- To borrow a phrase:

Sorry, I mis-understood what you meant. I am in favor of multiple MAINS (i.e. multiple accounts). I don't care if they remove the extra slots on each account.
Originally by: Ekrid
you cant experience the whole game with alts either. So, why do you play eve if having alts is just as good as having a single character? Why do you then support alts?
What I meant was, the game is so complex, you can't do everything even if you have alts. The reason I have alts (mains) is that I like to do different things and try out different ships etc. I can't do that with just one char because too much skill training. So I use a second char to train different things.
Originally by: Ekrid
People can take multiple roles, thus individual players with 1 character are hurt by comparison.
You may feel hurt but that's your choice. That's your perception. I have corp mates that only use one char and they have just as much fun playing as I do. They know that many people have alts but it does not bother them. They don't care about others. They play normally and are very successful in the game. One mate in particular I'm thinking of is primarily a pvper but dabbles in the market in lowsec and makes a good bit of ISK on they side with virtually no effort. And I'm sure he has less than 1 million skill points in trade.

Ah I see...you're bitter because you're a carebear who gets suicide ganked and gets your mining cans flipped. Here's a perfect example of where an alt would come in handy. If you had a pvp alt, you could log off your carebear when you get griefed, log into your pvp alt and go kill something to blow off a little steam. Then you wouldn't be so bitter and have to come here and complain. Plus you'd get the opportunity to experience another side of Eve.
And yes I do have a life like most of the player base (married, kids, job) so my time in Eve is limited.

Almost right, but farming in empire peaks at 20M/hour sustained. You'd need to farm for an additional 10 hours a month in-game to finance yourself.
And five more:
11. Macro mine with alt account(s) (not recommended although lots of people are). 12. Win more at poker, online or in-eve 13. Sweat critters in Entropia Universe for 5 hours a month, use gained RW cash to pay for Eve and some beer. 14. Suicide gank correctly 15. Scam hard. After all, it's an alt.
So there you go. Another 5 creative solutions to funding an alt account or 20 without requiring a cash outlay.
BTW, the name on *this* account contains 'alt'. And until recently this year this account and others like it made about 200M a month more in passive income than GTCs used to fund them. So there was little to no extra effort or RW expense involved in getting several 25+ million SP 'alts' grown. Ironically, this is now my only funded account -- I'm having far better time focusing and relying on others than managing a one-man alt sweatshop.
A player able to spend more time in game will always have proportionately more reward than someone doing the exact same things but spending less time. The other way around would be... stupid.

QFT. In fact everyone should have at least one additional alt account to support CCP further.
And for my previous posts, I would like to point out that I am NOT anti-carebear. I also carebear on occasion and I meant it in the play-style sense...not the derogatory sense.

Originally by: Dirk Magnum ...I really think that multiple accounts unfairly benefit those players who have the extra money to spend. Of course its that extra money that keeps CCP happy with the current alt mechanics, so there's where we run into another problem.
I have to this point never posted to these forums because, really, whats the point no one ever changes their opinion anyway. However, this thought process is so incredibly insane that I can not remain quiet.
Perhaps a refresher is in order. EVE is a game published and hosted by a company called CCP. As a for profit enterprise, CCP is required to collect money for its product and service and, shockingly, is expected to collect more than they spend on an ongoing basis. If this does not happen then we have no CCP and thus no EVE.
WHY IN THE WORLD would a company TURN AWAY business? Particualry from REPEAT CUSTOMERS (the most sought after type of customer in the business world).
In addition, if I can afford to have two or three toons, why shouldn't I? Maybe I want to play the game three different ways (carebear, trader, pirate). I should be able to enjoy the game however I see fit, and I should be able to spend as much of MY OWN MONEY on Eve as I choose.
Honestly, why can't people just play EVE as they want to and quit trying to change everyone else's style to match their own. The, dare I say, diversity is what makes this such a great game.
Okay, I'm going to shut up for another 4 years.

So true, to get the most out of this game, you need a minimum of 2 accounts, one for the pvp side and the other for manufacturing, else it will be years before your competent in any area. Especially considering this game has been going for a while now, and there is no way to get ahead of the veterans skills wise.
Also alot of alts are miners/manufacturing alts - I'm sure alot of people wouldn't be complaining when EVE experiences hyperinflation due to alts being removed... ;)
Alts = More money for ccp, and cheaper items for players generally.

You can compete by...buying your own alts!
Also, multiboxing requires alts (everything that isn't your main is your alt).
Aside from throwaway gank alts I don't see anything wrong with using alts to trade or redistribute assets.

Ok, that's the *THIRD* time you've responded to yourself supporting yourself. Either you have a multiple personality disorder or you're having a hard time selecting an alt from the 'Character' dropdown when responding.
