Alts need to be looked at for the problem they are.

Ekrid	Posted - 2008.07.11 18:36:00 - [1] Trading alts, throwaway gank alts, thief alts, etc. People have talked about namechange before, and the answer that always comes back is "you can just hide your history so that you can keep corp thieving" or some such. Having real thief alts is no different. people with too much time on their hands have so many alts making money, there's no way to compete. I thought the reason CCP pushed the multiboxing concept for their game was to lessen alt activity, while making people pay a price for more alts. But they still havent gotten rid of the multiple alt slots for single accounts. CCP should lengthen the termination time of character slots to a month required before they can be biomassed.

Throwaway alts, suicide alts, scout alts, manufacturing alts, whateveralts. All these alts allow people to do multiple tasks taking roles away from others. Someone wants to be a trader but can't because people have trader alts. Someone wants to be a scout but can't as people have throwaway scout alts. Eve should be called Alt online really :P

But it's too late to remove alts, because that would make a lot of people angry and their money is more important than the ideals of the game. The simplest and most elegant solution to the alt problem is to provide some in-game method of establishing connections between different characters and even accounts. For example, an NPC agent could be used to find "2 closest relatives" of a specific char name, which would give the names of other 2 chars on same account. Then there should also be some way of getting "extended relative" information, such as names of accounts payed for by the same real person - name from the credit card. It wouldn't give any real names, so there real privacy would not be touched.

Eve should be called Alt online really :P Where do you get that you cant be a trader or a scout? Throwaway alts are just that... throwaway alts IE low skill point if any. If you train your main to be a trader it will be far better then any low point alt same for scouting hauling or any other profession. =============================================== What if the hokey pokey is what its all about?

I have no problem with having the three character limit on a single account since you can only have skills training on one of them at a time, but I really think that multiple accounts unfairly benefit those players who have the extra money to spend. Of course its that extra money that keeps CCP happy with the current alt mechanics, so there's where we run into another problem.

I suppose nobody can make ISK because all ship and module markets are fully saturated by alt manufacturing/trading. And I suppose that nobody ever gets ganked in a gatecamp because of all the alt scouts. Don't blame your failures on alts. If you want to manufacture crap and sell it at competetive prices, somebody WILL buy it. If you want to scout, get a cov-ops and join an active corp. You WILL be used as a scout. I have yet to be in an operation where we had too many scouts. Fact is, Eve would not be where it is today without the use of alts. There are just not enough active players to fill all roles on a daily basis. TBH, I would definitely NOT play Eve if I couldn't have alts. The game is so complex and has so many layers and you can't experience them all with just one character. In fact, you can't even experience them all with alts either.

See, here's an example of idiotic thinking. I wouldnt play if eve didnt have alts. You cant experience the whole game with just one character. you cant experience the whole game with alts either. So, why do you play eve if having alts is just as good as having a single character? Why do you then support alts? Alts allow people to be 3 places at once, thus requiring 2 less REAL players. Eve heard of a research alt? you just pick the bloodline and corp trees that give you this. Miner alt. do the same thing. pick prospector in the end. trading alt. do the same thing. pick entrepreneur in the end. all these alts give you MORE than sufficient skills to start making money, with just a little training in cruiser sized ships or industrials. Not only that, you can just keep alts at different regions to watch the market. Thus having the equivalent of a jump clone, but not requiring 8.0 standing NOR messing around with your main. It removes this time sink. You know what else would do that? Real players who choose to play that role. People can take multiple roles, thus individual players with 1 character are hurt by comparison. All the anti-wow sentiment says that people who have 23 hours a day to play always stay ahead, and with eve its different because skill training is constant. Well guess what. Its the same with isk making. There will still be people always ahead because they are catassing no lifers who play 3-90 alts a day, making fists of isk, while legitimate players who actually have lives get undercut, overbid, suicide ganked, and jet can flipped by a bunch of throwaway alts. yeah, thats real good for the game. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ you know what the definition of a throwaway alt even is? Its a character you create specifically to do these things, without worrying about your main being affected. They make an alt to suicide gank because they dont want to lose standing with their main, or lose their ship. They are subverting IN GAME CONSEQUENCES, by training a throwaway alt to do what they do, while fapping to their own behavior, then trash the alt and start anew. This completely invalidates the supposed checks and balances in eve. Sec status? whats that? biomass? all good.
