InSession Minmatar Mafia	Posted - 2008.07.13 06:35:00 - [1] This post will probably turn out long, so if you don't like to read go away I roam 0.0 by myself, or with a really small gang everyday that I can. So, night after night I visited the same systems, primarily passing through HYDRA space in Vale of the Silent. I'd always get a BS ratting in a belt or maybe a BC while I was in my Zealot. Every night I would go home to Osmon happy. However, there was one person I wanted dead. He was flying a Golem, and was always ratting in the same system, every time I passed through he was there. On one occasion I even warped to his belt in my Zealot (pure luck which I seem to have a lot of when I do my directional scanning). Sadly though I had a huge gang following me (mind you I had just killed a ratter in HYDRA's home system) so I pointed the guy and left. Nights passed where I would see the Golem in the same system again, same pilot - so I knew he was there. Sometimes I'd miss my chance by a few seconds, seeing him disappear off scan, and other times I'd not even see him on scan at all. This time was different though. I had scouted my gang through HYDRA space, we managed to kill an Abaddon, and I had just missed a Drake in a belt by half a second. We had passed HYDRA's main system, and I noticed the Golem pilot was online. I felt very confident that he'd be in his spot. So, we get to his system (me 1 jump a head of the gang) and he's there. So I do the usual and pick a belt cluster, and he's there. I missed the belt by one, narrow him down to 15 degrees and initiate warp. CTRL SPACE CTRL SPACE - he warped to my belt! The guy must of thought he could still rat, and must have not read his intel channel at all because I know we were reported all over it. I point the guy, and yell to my guys to get their asses into system and warp to me. We get on this guy and he's got a nice tank. Our gang wasn't very high on DPS and we didn't have the best damage types to shoot at him either. It ended up being a 10 minute fight and we were so excited, he was finally about to pop. The best part was, his home system with a JB + 15 pilots was only 2 jumps away. This whole time no one jumps in to help, in fact someone else who was in local with a Raven left! 5% structure remaining, he's about to pop! POP. Woohoo we got him! We go in to loot, and nothing is there, we're like WTF? No kill mail in the corp tab either, and our buddies who were fly with us got nothing either. One of our pilots checks his logs - [ 2008.07.13 04:26:51 ] (notify) Golem belonging to xxxxxxxxxxx self-destructs. OMG...With all those combat messages going off we didn't see that self-destruct message go off. We were so angry, but at the time so happy. Countless nights went by where this guy was able to rat in relative peace due to various reasons. Finally he got what was coming. Regardless to say, it was a good fight, and despite his care bear anger "you guys suck" it was fun. Have to say though, was quite funny how no one came to help this guy out. Nice alliance mates Well, maybe next time.

Oh and btw atomic hero's have to be some of the biggest losers in eve, that said, they roamed from maelstrom, to PA, to SOV, and all of those alliances fell apart... Enough said on that... 2nd I was semi afk ordering pizza and talking with friends, I find myself scrambled buy the chump in the beginning of the forum, so I tank it for like 10 minutes and my door bell rings and pizza is here. So the funny part is I decided to turn off the tank, eat my pizza and take a crap. So to stop the stalemate which it was clearly shown, 8 v 1 and I held my own, I self destructed and went for some pizza. So no kill mails, and no loot, hahahahhahahaha I guess I got the final laugh chump

We play EVE just to kill people, just like your alliance plays it to mine and rat. You have big toys that show off your hard work, while our kill board shows off ours.

I'm starting to think Lord Power's case is not unique, I honestly believe Hydra enjoys losing ships, or that thier FC's don't care.

Sure, you got the "pleasure" of watching the guy die, and being partially responsible for his death. However, you get denied all loot and the killmail. Thus, you are denied any recognition for having actually caught and killed someone. I suppose this is why some people (like the OP) are drawn to the forums. They seek recognition from others for their deeds by posting about them here. I suppose that's all well and good, but the goal of engaging someone is to actually do the killing yourself. When the target steals the kill from you by suicide you are always left with the feeling that somethings missing. So in this small way, the Golem pilot gets the last "**** you." If he hadn't the OP wouldn't be here. In fact, I'm almost positive had the OP just killed the Golem (unless he dropped officer loot or something) this thread wouldn't exist. -Karlemgne

I know enough about human behavior to understand, however, that even if "you just couldn't wait to see someone die," you don't usually post inane stories about killing someone on the forums... unless there is some extraordinary cirumstance, for example someone was armor tanking a Raven or dropped 5 billion in loot. Imagine if Crime and Punishment (already the second lowest order of the forum channels) was filled with stories like: "I killed a ratting navy mega!" or "Geese I got some guy in a Golem to aggress me in a mission then ganked him!" Having said all that, it doesn't really matter what your motivations are. I will continue to say that the Golem pilot in question did get the last laugh. He knew he was going to die anyway, and denied you the pleasure of either the kill mail or his loot. If he hadn't he'd have died, you'd would have got the mail, and then some isk for whatever he happened to drop. Its sort of stupid for some people in this thread to claim that the Golem pilots actions were meaningless, or of little value to himself. Think about it like this, why do state governments in the United States attempt to save inmates on death row if they try to kill themselves, even if they are scheduled to be executed 2 hours from the suicide attempt? Precisely because the STATE wants to exact its revenge, and the prisoner, if he takes his own life, has denied the state this "revenge." The prisoner here wins, and the state cannot abide by that. I do find, however, that I hate it when people use this tactic. Particularly with capital ships. I do not wish to see "self-destruct" removed from the game, but I would like to see insurance payments removed FOR self-destructs. You spend two whole hours looking for targets? Wow that incredible, that's 10x the amount of time any other pirate takes to look for something to kill in either low-sec or 0.0. You should pat yourselves on your collective backs. As far as I know though, unless we're talking like a mega with 3 or 4 plates, most nanoships don't actually align that well. In fact, I can usually "catch up" to a roaming nano-gang whenever I want, in most anything. The real issue is, as the other poster pointed out, why bother? Most times you just don't have access to enough Rapiers and Huginns to really make a difference. Once I do catch up in my slower ship if I'm not a threat I get ganked while being orbited at 20k by 3 or 4 "low-damage" nano-ships doing 3k per second or I'm a threat enough that the nano-pilots just play around at 200k off a gate while I watch. The last part of the above quoted post is what I find most revealing. You are essentially in conceding the point of the guy you're trying to critique. When you say, "if we flew tanked ships on our roams, we would be scouted, bubbled, and have a blob on us in no time," what you really mean is that you fly nano-ships through 0.0 because you have ultimate control over picking your fights. This means in most circumstances you can pick fights with people you can kill, and run away if something that comes close to putting you at risk shows up. Of course you shouldn't get me wrong here. I fly nano-ships often (I am Minmatar after all). The difference between me and you is that I don't make up some story to obfuscate the real reason I fly nanos. I do it precisely because I can avoid fights I don't want to get in. Then again, you also won't see me on here posting something like "zomg I was in a nanogang and we totally caught this ratter in a Golem, who self-destructed. What a noob!" Cheers, -Karlemgne

What he said. I'm pretty sure what Tech was saying was that the only viable way to fit a Vagabond is to nano it, and to get any DPS out of it that isn't a complete joke is to fit 2 Gyro's on it. A third would make it better, but then that completely gimps the nano. As Nexus said, the Sac/Zealot/Ishtar put out much better DPS and sadly we had none of those in our gang which is why it took forever for our gang to take down this Golem. PS: Have you ever even been in 0.0 before? 0.0 is nothing but nano's running around. When it's not that it's 30 man BS/BC blob's camping a gate, or jump bridging around. If you like killing small groups of people with 4-5 times the numbers and not risk anything, then I feel bad for you. Nano's are not this god-mode button. All it takes to kill a nano (at least a solo one like me) is a few of the right ships (which does not always require a Rapier/Huggin like someone noted), and the correct strategic locations to capture me. It has happened more times than I would prefer to me, but alas I have made my point. You're making nano's sound even better than they are Matrix

DPS is measured in optimal, i seriously doubt you stay in optimal range with your Vagabond. Fitting a Vagabond like Garmon's Fleet Stabber is not really an option, it's got lower PG than the Fleet Stabber. Fleet Stabber may look like a Stabber, but you need to treat it like a Rupture with different skin and with speed bonus. Also, passive armor tank doesn't auto-regenerate, and you would rely on your friends to RR you out of fights or flying with a Guardian/Oneiros with you. Oh, and before you think nobody is flying with a Vagabond with falloff rigs, and 3 gyro's, please watch Sakana's last Vagabond vid. :) It's not exactly fast, but compared with other nano-ships, Vagabond is not exactly slow. Off-course the setup relies on the pilot being good, and compensating for the target's motion with overload, not to mention fitting the medium slots in a certain way, but you'll have to figure all that for yourself. --- I smack just for myself.
