calling a scorp for primary could easily become your last mistake in the fight, cuz it can tank like hell and it's not so good jammer to bring it in that role nowadays. Just target gallente battleships, they cannot tank and u can easily kill them before they got the chance to deal any dmg...

I dunno. Rokh DPS output if it's sitting at max range is pretty laughable, and it has a stout buffer to boot. Maelstrom (indeed any minnie ship) is pretty poorly regarded in general so they may be low in the list.
Personally, in my fleet combat experience it didn't seem that the average battleship was being selected by anything other than random choice. Yes the ecm boats and other support ships are early primaries but after that it's just russian roulette as far as I can tell (I CURSE the fact that my name starts with a D - I've only survied ONE fleet battle and I blame the fact that I show up early in the lists )

Primary:
Scorpian Armageddon Megathron Typhoon Raven Hyperion Dominix Maelstrom Tempest Apocalypse Rohk Abbadon
- Abbadon does mean DPS though, so if you have a numbers advantage and can still remove them quick enough I'd probably still put them after Megathrons/Ravens above other tier 3's.

a good question tbh.... but its totally situational.
As lots of the trolls have said, 'my ship is wtfsolopwnmobile' is fail tbh, as these are players in their snowflake ships that will of course kick out the best dps and the best tank, and ofc at the same time! well depending what your asking for at that moment ofc!! and they have the EFT to prove it... amrite?? well?
i guess you look at the situations for 'common fits' (common been what these ships are designed to do), for 0.0 or lowsec. and also depending who your fighting. On the large scale, all ships by default of most alliances have fleet feets will be DD proof, also remember the fire power of primary will pretty much melt any BS tanked or not. THe other thing you got to remember is that some ships are designed to tank, or designed to be passive tanked. and weather they have RR with logistics too.
for me, small fights, i take out the active tanking high value ships first. then the commonly active tanking low resists based ships. DPS is not a factor at the start of the fight as they are likly following primaries too and that dps is concentrated on ships YOU know about as its happening. You can fire all the torps you want, they will be hitting the same target as everyone else when your firing them. The plan... to remove as many BS from the field as possible as quick as possble, and those in teir 3 BS are often the more skilled and have most isk (hurt them). Once the main active tanking fleet has gone, you then go for the gank ships, as there tank is minmal and thus reducing their damage output. ignore known tanks and start picking of the small ship that are causing annoyance! while keeping points on the tanks that take ages to move.
By now they are leaving as quick as they can.
active tankers melt quickly due alpha damage. they don't have a buffer to react quick enough as the reps cycle.
Major fleet fights. most snipers and BS are set for DD, and gank/track. Picking of the main sniper fleet will remove the rest of the fleet.
in the end its all about making assumptions, on what is the norm or intelligence on your targets.
so.. best BS ship to not be primaied, a tanked midrange ship with damage that is slow. |

when you have a list twice the length of your overview, all at sniper range.... its normal to pick a point and start calling. as trying to figure out the range, speed, ship type, pointed or not... while in the battle. can be interesting, and anyone thinks its easy needs to try it!
oh, another way to reduce your name been called... be aligned!! lol, always nice like picking a ship that is not aligned knowing he's not got a rats chance of warping out with the alpha your about to hit him with! |

This line of thinking could easily be your last mistake in a fight. If you don't start off by attempting to kill jamming ships you are dead.
Falcons / Rooks / Blackbirds ALWAYS die first. If they are not in range you target Scorpions next. If you start pounding a scorpion and it does not start insta melting THEN you primary another target because he's a decoy and, to that extent, is a waste of a battleship for that fight.

Hum, I can get an active tanking Scorp to tank about 1000dps in an active tanking setup or to about 180k EHP in a passive tanking setup, good but nothing special (t2 mods, t1 rigs). I'd say still pop it first of the chance it carries ECM.
Maybe not primary if most of your gang is ECCMed. I may be tempted to pop obvious weak tanks first, like ships with both shield hardener and sensor booster effect, scrambling shield tankers... -- Coming to you, Assault Ships fix, by the people saying that the Gallente Recons are fine. |

My own scorpions have less EHP but at least they have jammers. I rarely have a reason to pull my scorps out since I detest fleet combat and can now fly Blackbirds, Kitsunes, Falcons and so on, any of which are more fun (and potentially more expensive) to fly than the lumbering beast that is my scorp.

Quote: Shield tanking ships tend not to have the greatest buffer in the world, so things like Ravens in particular are often called primary since they drop pretty fast.
I dual plate / triple trimark my raven for fleet fights Primaring ravens might not be wise for all fights... ...but you're right,we all have seen lol fittings.. armor buffer tank is the way to go for fleets that want to have little to no loses

Actually you'll find tempests come right after domis and scorps, not megas. You see and nice, cheap and flexible as they are tempests fit artys, to achieve 150km+ fleet range they sacrifice almost all tank and therefore go down much, much more quickly than a fleet mega which is capable of fitting plates atop its guns.
Rokh and abb are joint last those more the rokh, abbs don't snipe or cap well, rokhs tank well ontop of the huge range so even if you're shooting one gl catching it ***The EVE servers and their patches*** |

Impossible to say as it depends on the quality of the FC and the situation of the individual fight.
A dominix might get called early if the FC has a lot of ewar that can shut down the higher dps targets (ecm does **** all vs drone ships).
Just an example, another would be large cluster**** fights where target calling will mostly be handled by sorting your overview a certain way and firing from top to bottom.
Another would be a support heavy gang with a couple of BS's vs another support heavy gang where the BS pilots should be calling there own primaries based on what they can lay effective dps onto.
etc etc etc if you don't want to get primaried fly a drake or something else utterly useless in gang combat so you die last instead of first. YAY for shitty gangs and pilots who don't fit to win.

ermmm, when i FC i never really bother to check stuff like, whether the character is 4 years old and got high grade slaves....
i think it works more like, ewar, then w/e seems like a clever first one, dont have time to be sitting there checking through em all seeing which would be the optimal target to primary e.t.c, just call the damn target and shoot it
the only time i really think about first targets is when im in a 3 man gang (usualy the guy who said he had never lost a ship in x years and we were not gonna break his track record)

oh waa waa ur name starts with a d! wanna trade places?? yeah thought so :p
but i beleive ur wrong on the minnie bs not being primaried. tempests often get targetted early as they have a terrible tank on bs and popping them is a good way for fleet to slow down the other fleets alpha/dps
