Edited by: Shilikahn on 15/07/2008 02:26:41 There used to be the people in teal that would go from system to system running an ingame story line where we had to kill some pirate or something.
Also was the Cats Whispers in gallente space that gave out boosters to those that brought stuff to certain stations.
Now all i see is a hundred scams in here. everyone wants you to join their lotto and you get littl ein return.

While I agree that there are many scams and lotteries right now, Satrani, I, and a bunch of other events coordinators are looking to create an Events Alliance that would host a multitude of different events regularly. You are welcome to attend our meeting on the 26th of July. There is a post with all updated information.

I can tell u excatly what has happened from my own experience in trying to set one up.
1) The first thing everyone seems to read when it comes to an event, esp 1 involving isk is 'SCAM'. 2) 'Trusted' institutes like EBANK promise help and give none, unless they are looking after one of there own, thus the whole fear of scam becomes worse. 3) Even if u do get past the first 2 hurdles u have to convince loads of people about your event and get them to take part, without spamming and the such

I'm going to have to agree with Wizard here. It simply is a fact that there are enough people out there who do scam, but it kills all of the people don't scam. I myself am after 3 years of playing attempting to run a couple lotto's and I'm selling tickets, but it's a slow process having to explain it to each person saying that it's not a scam. The fact of the matter is if someone wants to scam bad enough, they will find a way to get the money from someone. I don't think that that single fact should dictate the plethera of "SCAM" yellers... most of which either A) don't have the money for the lotto, or B) have never played a lotto.. or C) have been scammed before, but don't take the time to realize that just because one person does it doesn't mean everyone does.
It's a topic that will never end. The way I look at it is this. It's a fact of life that most events in eve are for the gain in some form for the event holder. I emphasize the "most". When you think about it in those respects, it's not any different from an actual lotto. How many millions do we spend as gamblers trying to "hit it big". It's the same concept here.
I guess to sum it up is this. I don't think that the alliance is going to be able to stop scamming... I post any events I do with my main. If someone has a problem with me or my events, they are more than welcome to publically bring it up... and I will publically respond, because I have nothing to hide. I think that people who are trying to just let the rest of the community have some fun shouldn't get knocked as easily as they do.
Anyways, I think I'm about thru with this lecture. All in all it comes down to my motto. I'll trust anyone once, until they give me a reason not to... and I think EVE and many other aspects of gaming and RL would benifit from such a motto.

No it definitely won't stop people scamming but if we can show that we are trying to make legitimate events safe it should bring a bit more trust our way.
I wasn't going to respond to this thread as it seemed a bit like troll bait, but here goes.

Show me one scam you've seen in the events forum. I have been in this forum for the last 5 weeks and apart from the obvious "send me 50m and I'll send you 1b" all I have seen is EOH and Uoy Delik's poker tables and lotteries. None of which get people screaming:
I GOT SCAMMED
For one simple reason...they aren't scams. Just because you either don't have the isk to play or the will to take a small risk (and it is only a small risk when your talking about 10m with proven events) there's no need to bi*ch about something that won't even affect you..
The organisers in this forum work to make events so that the playerbase can enjoy them. Don't ruin it by crying wolf. _ Sec & Sat's Lottery |

The real issue with lotteries is that they are, for the most part, boring, and have few sa***uards to risk. Also, lots of potential lotteries that I see here try to aim high right up front -- that's not going to work. The institutions in EVE that handle a lot of public money do so because the people have worked in the public view for years, have started a humble service and/or a creative service, and have grown it over time. Doing a formula that is no different than what a dozen other people try, and from someone that no one knows about, isn't going to go anywhere.
I do think the idea of a lottery board has potential, I'm just not sure how to set it up to be truly useful.

yup, i run lottos myself from time to time, they are not really what i call an "event" i use the service to shift an expensive item quicker than what it could either on the mkt or through contracts also giving poorer players the chance to get a good item cheaply.
Trust is hard to earn, i have partaked actively in forums, also enlisted myself as a banker for selenes ^^ eoh poker service(drop by and have a game anytime just join channel low stakes poker shameless plug over) and still total trust isnt there but working on it.
I have also attempted several other actual events over time, and people just show little interest, no interest generates no activity which generates no new events. its just a vicious circle. http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=792173&page=2 |
