My virus attempt faild, lots of countries had time to close everything. My second time as a bacteria, i got rid of all the stuff that was visual. Upped resistance and leathality, and before you know it spread like wildfire. But unfortunaly as soon as i reached africa madagascar closed down, intresting bit was that greenland never closed it's ports or airports, despite the huge infection.

Edited by: Mark Lucius on 17/07/2008 15:03:49 I managed to infect all regions, but I was a little too enthusiastic with increasing the lethality after that: in the last infected region all infected died before they could spread far enough.
edit: I started in Madagascar, lucky me. Greenland lives, while 6 billion others die. ---

Haha, made it on my second try! Linkage
Guess the score isn't that great because I took about 200 days to do it.

Figured out something interesting. If you make it airborne, airports will shut down quickly and prevent more infection from happening. Same for waterborne and ports, I think. Stick to insects and rodents until the whole planet is infected, and you don't even need to put points into airborne/waterborne.

Managascar is one tough place to get if you don't start there, all they have is a sea port. I tried no water or air and worked pretty well except nothing wanted to fly to Australia, Madagascar, or Japan and my disease even started in that corner.
Virus so far has been my best weapon. Bacteria just doesn't get enough points to become very effective in the long run.

The trick is definitely to try to infect the world with what appears to be a harmless desease before moving up to the more aggressive stuff. If you make too violent of a desease, the countries close down to prevent its spread.
Apparently, my Anubis strain was classified as a apoclyptic head popper. -------------------------------- To borrow a phrase:

Other then buying or selling eveoluton points to alter the killer you can not direct the disease in anyway correct? If a natural disaster happens it is only helps the killer if the area is concurrently infecting people in that area?

I think it's cause there's a higher populatiot there, so they close done quick where places like Greenland stay open despite the entire world being bright red
not having ANY resistance except to drugs seems to keep the infection rates stable and slow enough to infect everywhere. then when the whole world is infected bump them all to 4 and watch the world change colour in a matter of seconds ...

Something I'm not clear on - if you haven't "unlocked" a tier yet, do you still have the traits in that tier, only hidden? --- Don't make me write you a citation... |

No, you sometimes get a trait as a bonus for unlocking the tier.

goddamn Madagascar, less than 1% of the world infected - NO visibility, NO symptons, NOT fatal in any way and yet again they're the first to go into lockdown
The only time I did infect the damn place, Cuba survived. The only time I infected the whole world, I closed my browser window by accident
Oh well, 163061 anyway. It took approx 83 days ...

Edited by: P''uck on 18/07/2008 13:36:36 Im trying real hard in realistic mode to kill off all of earth, but I have to say it's rather tricky: even a disease without any symptoms, visibilty or lethality at all can be spotted... Mostly a single small island keeps eluding my grasp, mostly its Madagascar. If you watch the traffic to that island, its clear why. It can ONLY be infected via ships afaik, and it has VERY VERY little ship traffic, compared to the other nations.
I think its definetly easiest to start there.
Also I'm not sure if the water/airborne thing does anything to make them close their harbors/airports any faster. I think, but im not sure, its just related to the visibility and the number of people infected all over the world. My theory when it comes to that is like this: Once you start hitting other countries, lay low. Sell your symptoms, dont have any resists at hand. dont get extra transmissions (means you have to start the initial growth with symptoms you can sell later on, easily).
Because you want to maximize the chance of being spread out, but minimize growth in the countries that already have high infection ratios, so you dont alarm all the world.
Once the vaccine is getting developed or you have every country infected, its all out war and rapid mutation into a super-killer-virus.
I love this game
edit: the closing down of ports really being related to population infected all over the world kind of makes sense... if you buy increased trasnmissions like waterborne, you have a higher growth WITHIN nations, triggering the "international alarms" sooner.
edit2: also, i think somebody hacked their highscore page
