So far i've killed 3292429895 people, **** knows how many that is in a readable number. Vaccine is about to come out, but I consider having less than 100 healthy people in Canada, Australia, West Europe, Japan, US, Mexico and a few other big places a success. And I've completely wiped out greenland, Santa won't be coming this christmas

Trick is to keep the disease as low profile as possible, while pumping its infectiousness, and hope you luck out with hitting areas like madagascar, which apparently has millions and millions of people living on it now. Once everything's infected, max out lethality :D

I did this, keeping the 'Visibility' at 0 but the second anyone notices it it's like the entire world shutdown their airports, shipyards and borders, so places like Japan never got infected. It did cause a lot of them not to do any of the quarentine measures til their entire population had been infected however... ...

yup, i figure you need to get a 'low' infection rate but across as many countries as possible. If a country gets super infected after your virus only being there for a day then you're likely to miss some out ...

Start - Greenland Type - Virus Beginning Setup. Make sure you have Fever and ONLY fever. Let your Evolution points run up for a little while then max out your drug resistance, then put one point into heat and moisture so you have 1 in all 3 categories. Then just let it go on its own course. No transmission choice, nothing.
Max speed. After awhile, it will infect every single country without throwing up red flags and then youve build up some nice E-Points, so cash them in for a quick, killing blow!

My virus attempt faild, lots of countries had time to close everything. My second time as a bacteria, i got rid of all the stuff that was visual. Upped resistance and leathality, and before you know it spread like wildfire. But unfortunaly as soon as i reached africa madagascar closed down, intresting bit was that greenland never closed it's ports or airports, despite the huge infection.

Figured out something interesting. If you make it airborne, airports will shut down quickly and prevent more infection from happening. Same for waterborne and ports, I think. Stick to insects and rodents until the whole planet is infected, and you don't even need to put points into airborne/waterborne.

Managascar is one tough place to get if you don't start there, all they have is a sea port. I tried no water or air and worked pretty well except nothing wanted to fly to Australia, Madagascar, or Japan and my disease even started in that corner.
Virus so far has been my best weapon. Bacteria just doesn't get enough points to become very effective in the long run.

The trick is definitely to try to infect the world with what appears to be a harmless desease before moving up to the more aggressive stuff. If you make too violent of a desease, the countries close down to prevent its spread.
Apparently, my Anubis strain was classified as a apoclyptic head popper. -------------------------------- To borrow a phrase:

Other then buying or selling eveoluton points to alter the killer you can not direct the disease in anyway correct? If a natural disaster happens it is only helps the killer if the area is concurrently infecting people in that area?

I think it's cause there's a higher populatiot there, so they close done quick where places like Greenland stay open despite the entire world being bright red
not having ANY resistance except to drugs seems to keep the infection rates stable and slow enough to infect everywhere. then when the whole world is infected bump them all to 4 and watch the world change colour in a matter of seconds ...

Edited by: P''uck on 18/07/2008 13:36:36 Im trying real hard in realistic mode to kill off all of earth, but I have to say it's rather tricky: even a disease without any symptoms, visibilty or lethality at all can be spotted... Mostly a single small island keeps eluding my grasp, mostly its Madagascar. If you watch the traffic to that island, its clear why. It can ONLY be infected via ships afaik, and it has VERY VERY little ship traffic, compared to the other nations.
I think its definetly easiest to start there.
Also I'm not sure if the water/airborne thing does anything to make them close their harbors/airports any faster. I think, but im not sure, its just related to the visibility and the number of people infected all over the world. My theory when it comes to that is like this: Once you start hitting other countries, lay low. Sell your symptoms, dont have any resists at hand. dont get extra transmissions (means you have to start the initial growth with symptoms you can sell later on, easily).
Because you want to maximize the chance of being spread out, but minimize growth in the countries that already have high infection ratios, so you dont alarm all the world.
Once the vaccine is getting developed or you have every country infected, its all out war and rapid mutation into a super-killer-virus.
I love this game
edit: the closing down of ports really being related to population infected all over the world kind of makes sense... if you buy increased trasnmissions like waterborne, you have a higher growth WITHIN nations, triggering the "international alarms" sooner.
edit2: also, i think somebody hacked their highscore page

Third successfull attempt at wiping out the entire planet And I didn't even start in Madagascar the last two times !
KEY factors: * stealth - minimise visibility even if it means sacrificing EPs to wipe out high-visibility traits you get * SLOW spread - DO NOT under any circumstances touch ANY of the lower third of the "disease" page until you've already infested all regions, and then ONLY increase drug resistsance * virus - need all the EPs you can get to switch fast from one thing to the other * LETHALITY ! If you manage to KILL patients while still at low infection rates, you help maintain a low total infected per region, to delay global alarms... I go with heart&kidney failure and NOTHING ELSE before I infected every region

now i have 60 EP or so for a nasty, and hopefully quick kill :D

Edited by: Istvaan Shogaatsu on 19/07/2008 02:10:16 I had a whole awesome mid-game post written up but I waited too long and it timed out. Here's the gist: I just rolled a parasite with 3 starting traits, decomposer, durable and parasite. I named it Acute Anus Failure. It started in Madagascar. 23 days in, and I had the whole world infected, and nobody aware enough of my disease to start burning bodies or anything. I figured indonesia would be hard but I bagged it early on with a ship straight from madagascar. I also had enough evolution points to unlock third tier, hello kidney failure! If some queef hadn't re-spammed the high scores board, I'd probably be on there ;\

finally got it! Madasgasger, the only clean place left on earth, closed down their port but not before one final ship was making it's docking approach. Ship then docked in the 'closed' harbour and the package was delivered
at which point I spent my 100 unused points and killed 6billion people within about 20 days ...

The best result was everyone dead except Madagaskar, Peru and Argentina.
The worst when I tried keeping infection levels low, under 300 people for a long time... That country closed schools at 30 infected, ports, borders and airports at 300 people.. But I had a random trait "famous" then.

Could be so. The cost to sell them is higher than to buy them, probably they are bad(for the disease) traits that you shouldn't get and dispose of them as quick as possible after you get them when unlocking a level.
And I hate Madagaskar.

Edited by: P''uck on 20/07/2008 15:53:14 I think, depending on your type of disease, you mostly dont even want high infectivity, at least not right away.
It's a real pita to pull off, but for a good start you need to grow FAST first, and once you start crossing the borders, you need to lay low. I think. And its really not easy to control for me, I mean, it's growing either to slow or just exploding in numbers, alarming everybody.
I can quite reliably infect the whole world now, I still think there is a LOT of luck involved when it comes to madagascar, but I cant do it FAST. fastest i managed was 135 days (i think everybody was infected at day 60, dead at 135). Id really like to see some "evolutionary reports" on your best diseases out there, and how you did it.
Oh, just to make sure, you're all playing this on realistic or relaxed? Because killing everybody on relaxed isnt THAT hard

I killed everyone on realistic in about 120 days (I think?) but only got given 100K points.
just basically get level 1 drug resistance and buy some cheap traits to up the infectivity. Once the disease spreads to another region I sold those traits to slow down the growth and let my starting country do all the infecting. (that way I'd have like 100 people in every country) ...

The Chucknorrivirus, it wiped out ever one except Madagascar, took 110 days for it to spread around the world, after a few modifications, it only took 9 days to destroy every one.

my first virus absolutely decimated india, china and the middle east. killed almost every single person there before they developed a vaccine. ---- ôWhen a Dove begins to associate with crows its feathers remain white but its heart grows blackö - Unknown.

I played it alot and I never saw that. But I'm pretty sure I saw a "late" infection, that didn't come from an air- or seaport but rather crossed the closed borders.
Only once or twice tho.
I think it's safe to say once it's closed, it's closed forever. Unless a late plane or ship is inbound when it closes down. But the timeframe for that is rather narrow.

****ing Madagascar, that was the only region left, I killed everyone else on earth.
It was kinda funny when Greenland was wiped out with the only functioning hospital. 3700 days to develop a vaccine ftw.
Edit: I named my virus "Captain Trips"
