Very interesting and entertaining OP.
It's true that many players lead double lives , PvP types who fund their expensive habits with carebearing. People who engage anything and everything in lowsec , thus disrupting the fragile ecosystem. It's merely a variation of 0.0 lifestyle , where warfare is costly and ratting profitable. Real piracy is different.
I agree that epeen can become meaningless in some context. But there are lots of professional pirates out there , with an unadulterated predating lifestyle. I get all my ISK from victims. I never enter highsec , people do the delivering for me. Many professional pirate corps rely on so called "carebear connections" (industrialists with a protection agreement) so that they can dedicate all their time to pillaging.
That said , PvE has a very important place in Eve. The game would become silly and meaningless without ratters and the vast amount of victims in space. But that playing style is hardly worthy of respect - a blind grind for ISK , a cancer-like urge to grow and upgrade with no end purpose. At least , it's necessary to support predators.
Some people have a different mindset and deliberately explore lowsec or 0.0 for the thrill of it , trying to fill an independant role and using stealth and cunning to avoid becoming a victim. Those have my respect for following their own original goal instead of the sheepish masses of easy mode highsec grinders.
So yes , we can use more carebears in Eve (at least in lowsec) and our maniacal laugh does not mean we want to exclude you from the game. Until it gets personal , then it's the sweetest prize one can get

IMHO Eve tries to be a microcosm of RL.
ALL aspects of game play have to be equally valid or Eve wouldn't work. This is just my opinion.
Be it carebear, PvPer, pirate, ore thief, scammer, alt scout, merc and dare I say it macro miner, they all bring a facet to Eve that adds to the game play and experience.
Getting back to the point, the OP suggests that:
Originally by: Eyespye ...
Those who claim not to care bear for ISK, many of those DO COME visit high sec to restock ships, ammo, mods. Where do they think many of those items come from? On top of that you seem to have no respect/understanding for any other play style then your own.
If ships and mods were not destroyed in PvP then surely "care bears" would be out of business?
If Eve contained no risk and no loss then we could all go out and buy the best ship and mods that we could afford. The server would replace your ship in dock and we'd all be happy. We could all pew pew to our hearts content and never have to buy a replacement ship or mod from a "care bear" or even bother with an industrial alt. The cycle would be broken.
Would care bears exist in this scenario?
We could all just buy a load of GTC's to buy a pimped ship and head off in to the sunset guns blazing?
To clarify in case you thought I meant that people shouldn't get thier ships blown up and restock in highsec, by all means I don't care. What confuses me is the fact that on one hand people dare to say stuff that sounds like "You are a carebear, you do not play the game as I think you should, go away" and then come to highsec to make use of some the services these same carebears offer. It just feels as a contradiction to me.
But reading some of the replies upto now, my understanding now is that people not so resent "the carebear" as a normal player, but DO resent them as "whiners". Correct me if I am mistaken.
I wish to add that the term Carebear can and is interperted in many different ways. Now I am not sure if I am or am not a Carebear, atm I do think the term "Highsec Dweller" fits me better.
o7
Personally, I think people do not have such an opinion normally, but respond to a stereotypical "whine" post when they see one in C&P. If this is not a troll then you are coming across as being very hypocritical yourself.
IMHO all professions in Eve are equally valid. It's this mutualism that keeps the game healthy.
Most people would respond to your remark that "people dare to say stuff that sounds like "You are a carebear, you do not play the game as I think you should, go away" and then come to highsec to make use of some the services these same carebears offer" with:
"which people? names, GTFO, STFU, go play WoW and proof or STFU.
However, I'll respond by saying you cannot go around with a veilled thread suggesting that the carebear lifestyle is more valid than any other Eve lifestyle without any comeback.
People wont be impressed if you "whine" because you produce ships and mods in eve (for your personal benefit and ISK) and then get your hauler ganked whilst claiming you deserve immunity from such attacks because you provided their ships in the first place.
I get an enormous smile on my face when I think, that quite possibly, you have been podded by the ships and ammo you produce...

You know what... I am going to go out on a limb and say take it from this perspective!
When they tell the "noobs/Carebears" to go back to wow, they are saying, if you want something easier... go play that! So yes.. they are "Darwin'ing" our game! Only the smart and strong will survive!
Understandable!
When you are mining and minding your own business... you are automatically a target. That confuses me... I would gladly pay the pirate how much he wants to avoid losing my ship! Hell i would pay a premium to be able to mine in a low sec! Very good money!
But no... It is FAR more fun to destroy that players will to play. HA,(not this one)
ATM i am a Carebear... i wish to get further into the game and go out and kill pirates(and i don't mean NPC's) At the moment i am not fit to fight anything! So i know where my place is and will stay put.
I hang out in a .8 and nothing is more annoying then rookie chat! The first day i dropped it! How do i fly! Tutorial, How do i a mine? Tutorial.... the list is endless.
So on that note! Thank you A** hole pirates for keeping our space clean and free of idiots and newbs(and occasionally me)
No threat nor attack will cause me to quit playing... so flame away! (nor is this one an alt) Sanahi(Steam ID) ¦thereal[Toast] |

Edited by: The Bandid on 17/07/2008 22:02:07 Please keep posting with ure alt, The prob with eve is that there are to many 18- getting ingame and since the beginning ( yes i play since the beginning ) more and more adults have left the game, specially when u have read the forums since the beginning.
The intelligence in posting is on average of an 13 year old.
There are few posts with some normal text in it......
This is what i read most when i actually take the time to read.
proof or stfu :-S go play wow ibtl
and so on, just to derail a treath. If there is a constructive post around after 5 or some replies some numnut tries to derail it just because he/she thinks he/she can and think he/she is funny.
Its ure decission to post with ure alt nobody elses, nobody around in this game can tell u or point u on the fact u are posting with an alt..... There is no rule about post or not to post with an alt.
All the wars are won by spies and alts trying to join enemy corporation/alliances.
An alt is still the same person and thoughts and voice as the main.
And yes about there are more Carebears then PVP-ers WHINING ABOUT CHANGE THIS CHANGE THAT my mega doesnt OMGWTFPWNBBQDMG or ( a current threath ) Boost the TEMPEST.
I havent or read a lot afaik post about miners pls boost the mininglaser t2 or pls make my hulk imba mining and perma boosting etc etc
Its the so called PVP er whom is whining the most, my crystal implants dont stack with my capital shield booster ooooooooooh boooooooooo and slaves does on the amarr carrier ( to armor hp )
So for all the post with ure main, proof or stfu peeps around or who feels offended by my post
GET A LIFE AND ENJOY THIS GAME

Edited by: Xelios Xarxes on 17/07/2008 22:24:39 I think the mistake most people make is assuming anyone even knows you exist after they log out, much less do they truly look down on you or care how you play the game. On the other end of the spectrum I couldn't name 1 person with "big accomplishments" in Eve or care, nor will anyone else months/years from now.
In the end it's just a game and you should be playing for your enjoyment, cuz no one is going to accomplish something here that will change the world. This is just a case of being too sensitive to what people think with a bit of paranoia mixed in, maybe because of too much time on your hands. Iron some clothes, load the dishwasher and cook a hearty meal to get your mind off it.

Edited to add reference points -by Gwendalyne-
If the carebears <A> want a new ship class in between Transport and freighter, sure whatever, doesn't bother me. If the carebears <B> want a way to stop "griefer" corps from deccing them, or <C> autopilot warp to zero, or <D> 100% ship and module insurance, <E> or perma ban scammers, or any other way to fluff up this game, it directly effects us and that is why we hate the TRUE carebears.
Okay. First off, I am a carebear.
Not because I hate getting ganked. I am still very new to this game and have alreay lost QUITE the number of ships to a gank (and from the aforementioned "griefer" corp wardec-ing us)
It's because when I DO get ganked, I hear all this TRASH TALK in local! "HAHA PWNZ NOOB (JAJAJAJA, ETC.) Come out in your n00b ship and play!"
Absolutely tasteless. Sorry, PVP'ers, but you are guilty by association.
Now, maybe if you would stop <A> following us at our max speed of 100 m/s asking what our hold is worth, (EDIT: While Target-locked) <B> chase grossly inexperienced industrial corps all over Empire, <C> ...Okay, I agree with this one. Autopilot = laziness = not being careful... <D> ...Also agree on this one, but DAYUM when the fittings cost more than the SHIP, don't ya just wish! and <E> spend all day flipping cans and adding/subtracting zeroes/ whatever...
THEN we will stop complaining.
I am a CARE BEAR because I CARE, and I abhor PVP'ers because they MAKE IT TOO OBVIOUS THAT THEY DON'T.

Right, why do I hate carebears?
Well, to be clear, I don't hate miners, manufacturers, traders, or even mission-runners; those are PVE players, doing what they like to do, and bringing necessary resources to the market. I don't have a problem with this, and actually support some improvements to PVE to make it more challenging and more respectable as a profession (invention was a great example), where intelligence, not grind-power, can make someone rich and content.
So, what is a carebear then? A PVE player with an agenda to change EVE, primarily through whining and threatening to leave unless their demands are met. EVE, almost like a nation, has many external and internal threats, the former coming from making enough money to stay profitable, to dealing with competition from other games, et cetera - carebears, however, are the latter, a domestic threat to the health and future of EVE.
Why is that? Because they seek to change the very nature of EVE, to terraform it into a game more of their liking (*cough*, WoW) rather than adapting to it. They was to destroy EVE's unique nature, one of its main attractions in the gaming industry today that is otherwise filled with suboptimal products, WoW, or its knock-offs. "What kind of things do they want introduced or changed?", you ask - here's a shortlist...
- Creating arenas for dueling in highsec, to showcase their prowess. - Nerfing the suicide gank, to protect AFKing loot pinatas from harm by being stupid. - Nerfing nanos, so an unskilled blob can win against them without creative tactical thinking. - Changing the empire wardec mechanics so "peaceful" corporations can't get dec'd. - Defending the logoffski tactics as a way to escape fights they don't want.
Rather than dealing with problems themselves, carebears use the threat of canceling their accounts so that the devs will cooperate with their agenda, or risk losing money. In the past, it wasn't that effective, mainly due to developers with more willpower and vision than most of the current generation (Oveur owns all), but these days? Thanks to WoW, the concentration of carebears in the population has increased, making their demands more constant and vocal, and harder to ignore.
And that, in short, is why I hate carebears.

Well, if you wanna come to see The Black Rabbits in your Hulk, I'll gladly ransom you and after paying you'll be free. As a matter of fact, ransoming becomes more and more difficult due to a loss of trust into pirate honour, but there are other threads outlining that...
What pirates probably cannot and will not offer is protection in their area. Pirates want to be flexible and protecting a bunch of miners comes very close to being a carebear
You may want to consider joining one of the many alliances out there who control a portion of nullsec. There you'll be able to mine in relative safety, but you will still have to keep an eye on local and watch your intel channels.
The hated carebears are the ones as described in a previous post, complaining about established and well thought out game mechanics that make Eve the harsh world that it is. Instead of adopting to the circumstances they want the circumstances adopted to them. Let's call it Reversed Darwinism - and that is the opposite of what Eve is intended to be.
I hereby also appeal to CCP, not to listen to those jerks. Eve will be a better world when they are fed up and leave the game.
