I've been spending a little time on Chaos experimenting with various setups, and I was wondering what other people were doing for their Tempests.
Right now I have:
Highs: 5x 1400mms, 2x Cruise Launchers
Meds: 1x Sensor Booster, 2x Hardeners, 1 named XLarge shield booster, 1x Shield Boost Amp
Lows: 2x Cap Relays, 1x RCU, 3x Gyro IIs.
With this setup I can actually tank better then before the patch, as the Shield Amp does +30% boost while the 2 Cap Relays only nerf for -20%. However, I lose my tracking computer, and canonly fit 2x cruise launchers which have 22.5 ROF with my skills on a Tempest.
When I got home from work i'm gonna play around with 6x 1400mms and Heavy/Light launchers for anti-frigate/cruiser, in addition to using 1200mms and 3x cruise launchers if I can.
On another note, I love the increase in speed to the cruise missiles, and also how they now fire straight at a target instead of popping out the side of the ship and realigning. It looks kinda stupid, but it shaves alot of travel time off. Plus it makes launching in belts easier.

with that setup i'd go for 3 power diagnostics instead. u lose some cap recharge but gain it back due to boosting more shields. -------------------------------------------

Hi - 4 x 1400's, 4 x Named Heavy Launchers Mid - Large Shield Extender, XL Shield Booster, 2 x Named Shield Hardeners, 1 Sensor Booster Low - 2 x Warp Core Stabilisers, 1 x Named Damage Mod., 2 x Named CPU's , 1 x Named Tracking Mod.
This worked Ok even on spawns of 4 Large isk Cruisers, & 4 Frigs, plus anti p2p where required, it is not a design setup for any 1 particular kind of combat. AS the shields last quite a good while, Shield booster was rarely needed until after the combat just to top up again.
Ammo Loadout was cruise, fof cruise, & torp's plus EMP Lrg Ammo.
Essential Engineering & Elec skills to lvl 4 / 5 of course. |

I'm asking about post patch balance changes, and pvp combat. That setup wouldn't be able to fire cruise missiles after the patch, as Heavy Launchers only hold heavy missiles.
On a Tempest post patch we're really gonna want guns > launchers. We can't really have both anymore, because both require mods to be effective.

I think post patch, close range is going to be the main way to go as you don't need any extra mods to fit 6 800's and if you fit 6 dual 425's you have a lot of leftover room to play with.

Sorry, Got post & pre mixed up again, lol
k, would change Hi Slots to 4 / 5 x 1400's, & however many of the ne larger launchers could be fitted in remaining 3/4 slots + leftovers on heavy launchers for smaller missiles.
Lo Slots, would change the Projectile damage mod for the missiles Mod.
And will read better the pre / post bit next time, lol |

Edited by: Sochin on 24/05/2004 14:50:52 Well, the new launchers are heavily dependent on mods and skills/bonuses to reduce ROF, so I would avoid using a Tempest setup that relies on missiles as a large part of it's firepower. On TQ I use 5 1400ms and 3 launchers, but I think 6x 1400 and then some heavy launchers for anti-frigate defense might be the way to go post patch.
Minmatar ships are going to need to specialize in Projectiles more now that missiles are more skill/bonus dependent.
EDIT: Qrac - I'll have to test out 3 PDUs, but I'm not sure I can afford the loss of cap recharge. 3 PDUs only provide +22%. Prehaps 1x Cap Relay and 2x PDUs would be a good comprimise. That would give +35% cap recharge, and with the shield boost amp I'd get +20% boost.
I'm still unhappy about my loss of a mid slot to the boost amp tough.

Edited by: Rob Mattacks on 24/05/2004 18:07:17 Yea i too think that, as it is, cruise launchers may not be worth it. I am thinking of maybe ditching the amp for a kinetic hardener if i have to use a warp disruptor for cpu reasons and/or maybe putting a cap recharger in the fifth mid.
Quick possible set up i came up with was...
6x1400mm's and 2 heavy malkuth
named x-large booster 3 named hardener's or 2 and 1 amp cap recharger 2/named warp disruptor/sensor booster
4 beta pdu's 2 gyro 2's (maybe swap one for a warp core stab if needed)
hopefully the use of the sixth 1400 can make up for the damage lost on the missiles....
Still not sure on this really cap wise...

ROF on cruise launchers blows, totally unacceptable even as a secondary weapons system.
In light of the arming time nerf for missiles, I'd say forget missiles as well.
If you go with siege launchers, I hope they put some named ones out there, because standard off the shelf siege launchers eat up a ton (80) of cpu, which the Tempest simply doesnt have enough of.
My setup is still in flux atm, but I'm thinking of dumping missiles entirely and going with a close range gunboat configuration.
I think the devs want to reward the close combat style, in my opinion. Speed is going to be key there.

I'm gonna test out the feasibility of using 6 1400mms and then 2 Heavy or Standard launchers to kill friggies. If the Cruise Launchers are going to have such a horrific ROF, I don't think using them as secondary weapons would be worth it. Probably better to ditch them entirely and rely on 6 1400mms for Battleship combat, and maybe throw in some smaller launchers with light missiles to put the hurt on friggies.
Losing the Cruise Launchers might free up enough powergrid to let me lose one of the PDUs, and I could put another damage mod (Or tracking mod to recover my lost tracking computer) in there.

To fit 6 1400mm's and x-large booster 4 pdu's or 2 RCU's are needed. Personally think pdu's will be much better option cos after 2 rcu's and weapon/tracking mod's you wont have much room left for cap relays which will mean a poor cap recharge plus as you will know 4 pdu's are better than 2 rcu's and 2 cap relays, even more so after the nerf...

Anyone know if there's a firm date for this patch? Finally got my Tempest set up how i want but looks like i'll only have a limited time to enjoy it
My current set up is
5 * 1400mm 3 * Arbalest siege
1 * Large CL-5 1 * named kinetic shield hardener 1 * named thermal shield hardener 1 * allumenel wired (?) sensor booster thingy 1 * quad lif mwd
2 * gyro 2 weapons mod 1 * named cpu remaining low slots RCU 1's
This leaves me with a small amount of spare CPU but the powergrid's nearly all taken. My guess is following the patch i'll have to sacrifice some of the Arb's, but maybe i could learn to live without an mwd again. Am looking forward (ish) to trying various combos when the next patch comes in.

I'll be going for six 1400mm Sochin if that helps at all. Gotta make the most of the bonuses you get. Power diags ideally or RCU, cant get onto chaos in last couple of days
So HMV consider Andy Williams and Dean Martin to be "easy listening" do they? Tell that to my mate Dave, he's been deaf for 20 years.

I'd probably end up going something like this:
4x 1400mm 2x 720mm 2x cruise/siege launchers
1x XL SB 1x EM TSM 1x Therm TSM 1x warp disruptor/shield amp/cap recharger II 1x sensor booster/cap recharger II
2/3x gyro II's 3x power diags 0/1x missile dmg mod thingy
I haven't actually built it yet, as I haven't been able to do much on chaos recently, but that's generally what I'd use.. quite similar to current actually..

I'm in the 6 1400 or 800 camp as well. With 2 smaller anti frig launchers or some smartbombs.

Hmmm, I seem to run out of energy when fitting and activating my 5th 1400mm on the Tempest. Why?
I have the following skills,
* Engineering lvl 5 * Electronics lvl 5 * Weapon Upgrades lvl 5
What have I missed? Thanks! |

nothing, you need 1 Raector concotrol Unit to fit 5 and 3 to fit 6*1400mm
