The market is alot slower now than compared to before. Last year I remember that buying somethfng on the market was a simple process such as:
search for item, click it, wait 4-5 seconds to get available orders, a split second where eve does'nt response to anything before the list of orders appears on screen, buy something from that list and done.
When I try to do this now, it's more like:
search for item, click it, wait 25 seconds where it says fetching orders (eve responds very slowly even to alt tab during this), ~5 seconds where eve does'nt respond to anything before items appears on screen, click buy and wait another 5 seconds untill the buy this item window appears, purchase it
What's going on? I can understand that this happens in jita but now it happens everywhere - without empty-off-the-beaten-path-areas, lowsec and nullsec as exceptions even.
Increased active players? Sure not, it was ~25k - 30k players during normal/active time just as before. My computer is more than enough to provide a stable eve client and I live in Sweden while sitting on a 2mb tubes which should'nt result in much latency.
Is it too many items? Surely not, the lists are about of the same length of before and even if - it could easilly be fixed with a "show orders within xx sysems away" filter. -what exactly is wrong?
I mean, yesterday I was fooling around - was "helping" someone else on AE3 extra room and got popped because of my own fault. "Well, whatever" I though being tired and semi drunk. - back to station to get another ship, wait no turrets, go buy turrets, check stuff in market after what's sold in the station or close to me so I could join that other guy again.
In the end, I bought 7 heavy pulses, 7 multispec crystals and 5 drones. That took me at least 15 mins because of all that slow market is loading eve is frozen lol fetching orders... maybe thing. It's just not supposed to take 15 mins just to buy 3 things off normal market seesh.
So anyone else feeling the same? ---

According to dev comments I can't be arsed to search for, the market is hosted on its own node, so it doesn't matter what system you are in. If it's slow, it's slow for everyone, everywhere, and yeah, I see the same performance degredation since EA was launched. They changed something, and it has caused the market UI to become sluggish.

well I've noticed a bit of system lag can make it worse. also depends a bit on concurrent users... seems to be worse at prime time but not right after downtime.
so it could be the number of transactions build up and clog the system

That, of course, is not true at all. Just go to Jita when it is busy and compare the UI lag there with a solar system which is completely lag free.
Maybe the underlying market server works all fine and fast, but that doesn't help much if the lag in the system prevents you to access this server.
So the question of the op is not precise enough. WHERE and upon WHICH operation occurs the lag?
Besides, market works usually fine for me - with the usual exceptions that is.

OP already stated it was carried out in random systems.

I've definitely noticed this. Along with a strange bug where sometimes when the slowdown seems to be worst it won't respond when I click on an item in the search window (or any sort of item, I can move around in the menus, but I can't actually get to any of the item/order detail screens) or, alternately, when I change items it will change the name and graphic, but maintain the price listings for whatever I was on before. Very weird to see trit being sold for hundreds of millions a unit but in all seriousness, what's up with this?
No, this is not an "alt" poster... I actively play her, she's just in a NPC corp. |

One thing that I've definitely noticed is that after entering pulling up a list of products from the market (searching, browsing, or purchasing), the market window "refreshes" twice. No idea as to whether it's just my client or a server/network issue.
I need to bug report it. ---------------- Play EVE: Downtime Madness v0.83 (Updated 7/3) |

Fresh eve install fixes this, i think it due to caching but I get it occurring after the install is x months old , then I just reinstall and its fine..

could it simply be that the market has a significantly higher number of buy/sell orders on it now then it did last year, or the year before? Could be the Database is just larger, and therefore takes longer to be searched/sent to you.

I only have this issue on one of my PCs, so its probably not the same one. At the time I suspected it was due to the cache patch, but its probably just cos my other PC sucks.

For me it helped to uncheck the get avatar when clicked, that speeded it up a bit and I dont get the freezes when I click the info on char. But its still slow.
I have felt that the waiting time on the market can be diffrent from area to area. I usually have a char in jita checking prices and buying, at the same time having another char in another hub checking prices and buying. And the finishing time on the buy will be diffrent. Jita can take 15-30+ second depending on ppl and rens can take 5-10 seconds. Usually I can press buy in jita and tab to rens char finish that buy, before jita char is done buying. |

They've screwed something with the market with the big patch.
Half the time when I log in, my first View Market Details request always shows a cached copy of what I viewed before I logged off. I have to put in a second View Market Details request before it will actually update.

I have no such problem. I think jita has actually increased in response time recently.everywhere else is working just fine.

Please make a bug report. That's how the devs know there's a problem that needs to be identified, researched, scheduled to be fixed, fixed, and deployed. Posts on the forums don't help with that process.
Thanks!

I would think that with things like lag and slow performance the only indication you will get is FROM forum posts like these.
I mean really who'd submit a bug report for lag? It doesn't really fit with the standard "stuck, lost isk, sentry gun podded me" real bugs.

I know exactly what causes it, the new "show only sec status" filters. Dont ever touch them and it'll be faster.
This is why a clean install fixes it, and some people aren't having it happen as they have never messed with the settings.
You see when you have set a filter, the market loads, then reloads after its filtered out the orders that you dont care about.
The UI is having some serious issues, and only gets worse with it each patch. If throwing more programmers at it fixes it, I'd suggest that, but it probably wont.
I would fill out a bug report, but I still have reports that sit there unresolved. Most people will read this thinking it's part of my post, when its actually my sig :P

Your bug reports probably look like this:
"I played your game and my ship didnt warp when I clicked the warp button! Fix your crap game or I'll quit and bring my 10 alts with me, yo!".

The two most important things you can do when you file a bug report are:
1. Be extremely clear what the error is. "Lag when using market" is not clear. If it takes several paragraphs to write up the description, that's fine. The more detail you give, the better, including what OS you are using, what video card you have, what driver version you're using, etc.
2. Try to provide specific steps to recreate the problem. If YOU can't recreate the problem, we'll have a hard time too. On the other hand, if you can give us a specific list of instructions that causes the error to recur, our developers and QA team can likely track that bug down quickly and figure out how to fix it.
There are a lot of bug reports that get sidetracked because we can't understand what you're trying to tell us, or we can't figure out how to reproduce the problem. That's understandable, given the number of potential failure points between our server and your computer, but if something is happening repeatedly and repeatably, we can fix that and we will.
