To put it mildly, I'm incredibly lazy. So lazy I don't actually care about gaining ISK much, but for some strange reason like to teach people. You know what they say... those who can do, do it... those who can't, teach
To explain the grandeur of my lazyness... I can't be bothered to properly and continuously (i.e. even once a day) watch the market prices and ongoing orders properly even in one region, let alone across several regions, and I really don't want to bother with courier contracts or marketing alts either. So, I'm looking for "apprentices", which would (at best) be given some small amount of seed money, but would be guaranteed to receive as much advice as humanly possible.
The only make-or-break condition for appliants is that they should have an IQ close to the top 5% of the general population. Fundamantals you are expected to comprehend (at least partially) : profit margins after appliable taxes, ROI, recycling yields, profit per time spent doing something other than learning. The second condition to applicants is that they must join my corp - either themselves, or with an alt specifically created for trade (ask me what to pick if you don't know). Pessimism is an advantage. So is a higher RL age or a technical university degree. Actual EVE or RL experience in any similar field is irrelevant. Marketing/management/similar RL studies are a disadvantage.
Any takers - either respond in this thread (with any questions) OR eve-mail me.

I'll bite. Been thinking about making a trade alt but I have a hard time getting started with new things. My primary's wealthy enough that I probably wouldn't require any seed money, or could get it with a few days' worth of work.
(Last tested, IQ was 137 - just shy of 95th percentile. Can you take me anyway? RL age is 23, but have an AA in general studies and am inching my way towards a BA in experimental psychology.)
I'll hit you up IG some time in the next day or two if that's OK with you. I work weekends but am available nights and any other time during the week.

Edited by: Akita T on 19/07/2008 02:38:56 Psychology ? Interesting choice. Not technical, but still better as "bussiness" or similar IMO.
Also... 135 top 95 percentile only ? Must be the one of those creepy SD=24 tests... (for the reference, 95% or above SD=15 tests IQ is about 125, and SD=16 is about 127). Well, anyway, it's good enough, I'd say
Patience will be the first thing I'll teach anyway If you can't wait one week or even longer for a shift in trends or somesuch (and be able to predict them after some training), there's no point even trying Translation : I *might* be away for the end of the weeknd, but it's not certain. That's one of the reasons I prefer to (also) have replies in the thread.
There's no set number of apprentices I'll be taking, but I'd prefer something in the range of 2 minimum to 5 maximum... depending on who shows interest. Just one, no competition, not fun... more than 4-5, and I can't give them enough attention. I will focus mainly on the CONCEPTS of why prices fluctuate in EVE (how, why, how fast), that's why I prefer people with higher IQ (so I don't have too explain TOO much) and the focus will be on cooperation and learning WHILE also having a small degree of (practical/applied) competiton between applicants.
P.S. Please also mention your local time : GMT+? and "online hours" (for convos) I'm GMT+2 (GMT+3 summer time), but I'm mainly active in EVE late evenings and way past midnight local time.

Hmm, I guess some extra pieces of info are in order, as I was already approached by 3 people (1 forum, 2 ingame) about this... impressive reaction for 15 minutes, I must say, good job.
CLARIFICATIONS
1. I don't care *all* that much about the IQ score... top 95 percentile, top 93, IQ 120, IQ 140, whatever... the idea is that I don't want to deal with "average" people I have to explain and re-explain the ground concepts. On the fine print, debate is always in order, but once I explain the basics properly, I don't want people that will be asking me to explain why things are the way I said they are, I want them to grasp the basic concept and just ask about details or approaches. If you are CURIOUS about your own IQ, I will post several "decent" IQ online tests soon. I will make my own judgements anyway pending discussions with you.
2. This here is a "general interest" thread, which will run for a good while. After enough people are interested, I will convene a series of semi-public, semi-private interviews with the interested group and each individual separately to select a few people. Make sure you show interest so you will get considered.
3. You DO NOT NEED to create an alt "now". Actually, if you were thinking of doing just that now, don't. You do not need to apply to my corp now either. You can apply now if you want to join, but that's a completely different issue, and not for this place to discuss. When you are selected, details on alt creation (if any) and joining will be perfected, but only after you get selected. The selection process will last at least a week, if not more. It will take as long as it takes.
4. You will have almost complete autonomy over your orders, area of operation (as long as it's NOT Minmatar/Gallente highsec, everything else is ok) and finances. I will never ask for ISK from you, worst case scenario only on ISK back in case I loaned you any "seed money". Ideally, you shouldn't even need that, but I'm not that much of a purse-pincher in case you show promise but have no funds available. I just want to eliminate beggars and scammers and only select people who are genuinely interested in learning the fine art of speculative/predictive market trading.
5. IT DOES NOT MATTER how active or how experienced in EVE you were so far. Even if you are reading this thread for some obscure reason (somebody left the page open on a public terminal or other such highly improbable circumstance), feel free to register an EVE trial account and contact me ingame via evemail (you can't post in here with a trial), it's still ok, IF you think you fulfill the conditions described above.
6. Again, age and schooling are just PREFERENCES. IQ score from IQ tests, highly circumstantial. If you show you are unable of comprehending reading materials and answering questions, you're out. If you do, even if you do not fulfill th rest of the conditions, you're in. It's all about not getting your hopes up needlessly and wasting my time. But if you're brave enough, and lucky enough, you might just make it anyway.
7. Timezone just makes live-chat gatherings/interviews easier to schedule. I don't really care if you're from the timezone... ideally, I'd actually have people spread across timezones cooperating for maximal effectiveness.
Any further question, feel free to ask in here. P.S. The "official unofficial" corp channel has the same name as my corp ticker : " CNVTF ". If I'm online, I'm there (me or any of my alts). Easier than private convos.

I'm quite positive I satisfy the requirements. If there are any specific questions regarding test scores, degrees, age, etc... Feel free to inquire, though I'll leave that all to the imagination for now since it isn't specifics you're looking for.
Don't have any further questions at this time, though I'll post again if any come to mind.

Like I said in the previous post edit... the main reason is to gather interested parties that are willing and able to learn what I can teach And, of course, select a few who I end up considering worthy of my attention.
I'm looking for as many interested parties as possible, out of which I will select from 2 to 5, but preferably 3 or 4 people to teach further. Thinking about one to two weeks to gather participants, two to four weeks to give out basic learning materials and conduct both theoretical and practical tests (ranging from small-scale market manipulation to average-term prediction accuracy) to select apprentices from candidate pool or thereabouts (longer or shorter depening on availability and interested party count).
Reading materials and prediction tests will be provided publically, practical tasks will be handled privately before, publically after completion. After selection, the ones selected are expected to act as a TEAM (guided, not lead by me), not as mere individuals, even if they have significant autonomy.

Way to take wind out of the sails of the other possible IPO, your going to gobble up all the "smart" new traders.
Also, I wouldnt want a teacher that says, "To put it mildly, I'm incredibly lazy."

I am interested. Im pretty confident I meet those requirements. Also I wouldn't require any seed money as I have enough to start off now, with about 19 sell orders active atm. Still of course trying to learn the basics. I live in the PST (GMT-7) timezone.

Damn you Akita! Stealing my idea!
I'm curious about how you're going to confirm things like IQ, RL age, university degrees, etc though. What's to stop someone just pretending?
Being a little bored I also took the IQ test you linked - 142. That one likes me . In the past I've had scores anywhere from mid 90's to around 160 though so I don't really put much store in them. --------------------------------------

Some interesting filtering processes.
For potential employees who have straight A's in a university degree is usually an automatic exclusion. I need competent and practical employees.
I don't believe in IQ tests either. So I'm very interested to see how this works. Please give regular updates on progress

Yeah I realise. I could ramble on endless on my opinions of intelligence, learning styles and unfortunate bias in the education systems around the world. So I won't.
I just wish the education system would create self-motivated people capable of running their own business instead of clonal factory employees, but what would I know.

Teach me me me!
I have an IQ of 95(Ok, I actually have no idea at all. , too young to buy beer in the states(*sigh*), I'm a high-school student with high-level math, physics and economics, which I will be writing an extended essay in.
It's my intention to become a Ph.d in Computer science once I get out of high-school.
And I'm a muppet too. Pick me!
Ok, to be serious: I'm interested in seeing how this turn out. I have been playing with the thought of doing this whole teaching thing(You are right, those who can do it, do it. Those who can't teach), but oh well.

Mark me down as interested, its always worth having more strings to your bow. I'm currently a "competent" trader I would say, but knowledge is power and its too easy to get blinkered into one particular technique or specialization in this game. Maybe your group would also make a good anti-burnout excercise for people like me, or maybe allow me to step up to the next level tradewise.
According to the IQTest.com result I get 142, however I am an ex-member of Mensa with a tested IQ of 176 (I left, too many social inadequates lol). I am also a university dropout (Physics and Astronomy BSc).
I live in the UK, so currently GMT+1 with return to GMT in the autumn.
The only stipulation I have is that my current bond is not affected, I value my investors too highly to risk losing all their money.

That's why the thread title says "NEWBIE" apprentices. It's not so much about learning the stuff, it's about learning it FAST and without having to make (too many of) your own mistakes in the process.

Well, it's a special brand of lazyness... more like, I don't do anything unless I find it challenging/interesting, and as soon as it becomes a chore (too repetitive, not much thinking required anymore), I prefer to drop it.

Hi Akita,
I am excited that you are offering this! I am extremely interested in becoming your apprentice.
I am a financial economics major from the University of Rochester. I am currently going to the Simon School of Business ranked one of the top ten business schools in the world. I believe in staying ahead of the learning curve.
I love reading, I love learning, and I love giving back. I am always open to constructive criticism to help improve any task I try and accomplish. I am a good listener, and try and absorb as much as information as I can from more experienced people than I. I enjoy challenges, and I believe that I am qualified to become your apprentice. I understand that the opportunity cost of spending time with me takes away your time of analyzing the eve market.
There is nothing free in this world, that I understand. And therefore I am not looking for an easy way to make lots of money by mooching off of you. I guarantee that I will bring much value to the table and that every minute you spend with me will be as beneficial to you as well.
Thank you, Dragonz
