I have been here for almost a month now
I own and fly several cruisers and make good money from mining and ratting...
I was just wondering, when I will stop being a nOOb?
Or is it all a relative thing? in as much as I'll always be a nOOb to the old fellas but i'm already and old fella as far as the New nOOb are concerned?
Confused

Asking is a sure sign of you still being a noob tbh m8.
Use these forums to gather information, learn about the game, its intricate, study it, it wull take a long time to even know the basics, over a year in for me, 1000s and 1000s of hours played, 9 mill+ skill points, and a heap of experience at all facets of the game, and I still learn something every day.

When you don't have to ask if you're still a n00b or when you'll stop being a n00b is usually when you stop being a n00b. Ofc some people also just think too much of themselves so it doesn't always apply.
Just kidding

Yea, there's really no rules for being a n00b. You can't count the ! instead of your avatar since some people doesnt come to the forums and since the renderslave was broken for a while. I guess you could call someone with a ! a forum n00b though. You can't count trading or PvP or NPC combat or mining etc either, since not everyone will be experienced in everything.
I would say that when you know a lot about the stuff you chose to do in EVE, like mining, reaserch, manufacturing etc, when you know a lot about that and a bit about a few other things as well, then I wouldn't call you a n00b. If you know so much about something so you can help out people who are n00bs, then I would call you experienced.
But I also don't like to call people n00b, I'd rather use newbie since n00b is a bit mean to call someone. Don't know why, it just is.
I usually call experienced people n00b as a joke when they make a mistake they shouldn't, and just as a joke.

Ok... sorry about how short and blunt this post is, I'm sick and and don't have much time.....before I have to make a dash to the toilet again
WE ARE ALL ALWAYS n00bz!
My point is....EVE is always changing...plus you can never be good at everything hence you're always a n00b in some area......
gotta run....

A n00b is a completely differant thing to being a newbie, don't blur the terms.
IMHO
A newbie is someone new to the game, who doesn't know what they are doing and have to ask - in Eve I think that you're probably a newbie until you know about 75% of the games functions, and a number of the tricks like chaining npc's. You can't say "battleship level" because I know a few people who've been playing eve since September or thereabouts and just haven't bothered getting to battleship level, living perfectly happily in cruisers and frigates. Yet they know how to play the game.
A n00b however, is totally differant. A n00b is the person that refuses to come out of newbieness, or acts like theyre a newb to irritate or flame. The kinda person that refuses to learn how to "grow up" and gain experience on their own instead of asking others for it, and irritating them.
I think there are differant types of n00b in general though, you get the "whiners" who moan everytime something is changed from how they like it, or the "irritants" who, after playing for four months still don't know that a 100mn mwd just won't fit on a frigate. And then you get the "anti-newb" - someone who refuses to let the new players get on in the world - that don't let them grow, these alt corps who declare on newbie corps and things, or the griefers who just hate the idea of newbie's in the game. Then there's the "anti-n0ob" who believe everyone apart from themselves, is a n00b. <flame> (Referance: CA) </flame> And then, the "ebayers"..... don't need to define that one.
In general though: Newb = good. n00b = bad.

With Eve... hmmm... I'd say about 3 days after you stop playing it, finally, you will stop being a n00b. As many have said before, in this thread and elsewhere, there is always a different spot on the apple to bite.
And it is always tasty... for a while.

Quote: I was just wondering, when I will stop being a nOOb?
When you hop into a frigate as a new char and still kick ass. When you outplay people with 5 million skillpoints more than you have. When you realise that it's not about the amount of skillpoints you have or about how much isk you earned, but about what you wanna do and how can have the most fun doing what you wanna do. When you have left all this "I gotta get this & that item now now now!!!" behind yourself... then you stop being a noob.
I know a lot of people with 10m+ skillpoints, gazillions of isk at the bank and they're still noobs.

1. If you think PvP equal griefing you are a n00b. 2. If you mine in a 1.0 or .9 system you are a n00b. 3. If you don' t know who FE were you are a n00b. 4. If you buy stuff on escrow without checking you are a n00b. 5. If you think gate camping is an exploit you are a n00b. 6. If you think you are safe you are a n00b. 7. If the forums are your main source of information you are a n00b.
Hope this helps.

Jeez picky
Personaly I will always class myself as a noobi/newbi as there is always some one who knows more than me about some thing else. But I will endevear to help others with info they need if I know it and I hope they will do the same for me and correct me if they find my information wrong as it happens to all of us.
BTW almost 2mnths into the game so far

I always thought a n00b was not really about how long you have played the game. Being a n00b means that you expect the game to adapt to you that is you don't know the rules of the game (written and unwritten) and refuse to learn them. Newbie however is someone that has just started and doesn't know how things work what skills exists modules ship or how they work but with a little effort and willingness to learn he quickly becomes more confident and at home in the world of EVE (WEVE ) __________ Capacitor research |

What bugs me is that people who think they know everything are very quick to brand someone who doesn't know something they know a "n00b id1ot LOL!"
Morons. It's used too much as a general insult, rather than its proper use - someone new to the game. And of course, the people that do this the most are the ones that do nothing other than PvP.
I'm sure most people who have been playing over 6 months could tell others a little tidbit they didn't previously know. I learn something new almost every day and I've been playing for about 10 months. I know JACK about some aspects of the game. Also, no-one knows everything - the game changes too often to enable that to happen.
