Originally by: Aldrad I was disturbed earlier today to learn of the following events. The corporation 'Grey Templars' hired this corp to war dec some corp who was hassling them. Wise Guys, of the Exquisite Malevolence, upon receiving the money, decided to break the deal and instead threatened their client 'Grey Templars'. Fortunately, the corporation that was initially hassling Grey Templars retracted their war dec after being war decced themselves by Wise Guys. Now since the contract had in a way been completed, and Wise Guys had already received their cash, why should Wise Guys turn around and demand more isk while threatening to war dec Grey Templars? Apparently they were praised mercs, now it seems they're a corp of back-stabbers.
I recommend other corporations seeking to hire mercenaries avoid Wise Guys, as they'll just backstab you once they've got some money out of you.
TL;DR

The people in my neighbourhood will remember a recent incident where a POS was coming out of reinforced and it was expected to be hit by a very large entity. So another, equally large entity was called in on a promise of a big fight.
POS came out of reinforced, the entity someone had called in arrived, but there was no big fight that they had been promised. The other side decided not to come. So they just took down the POS themselves and left.
Never unleash the dogs of war unless you have a bone to give them.
In the current situtation we have 3 sides and i'm telling the story from my point of view.
Entity A decs entity B and calls in entity W for help. W gets initial payment to dec A and does so. A shits his pants and makes a deal with B to retract the dec. A asks W to retract as well, "think of it as a quick victory" or so they said. No shots fired. W does not like to be a toyed around. Either give a fight that was promised or pay a symbolic penalty. B declines to pay and runs to the forums. W decs B.
Flying around in high sec is a welcomed change of pace for few weeks. Kill some, loose some. B, make the most of it and train yourself so next time you don't need to call in outside help and remember: there is a lesson in all this.
Never unleash the dogs of war unless you have a bone to give them.

We need more lawyers in this game. Why are there never any lawyers when a contract is in dispute?

I remember back when I was in Eve Uni that you 2 wardecced us at the same time. Although you guys did quite nice stats wise (we barely saw you though) EXM took quite a pounding. On the other hand they did bring it.

You should link us getting pounded from IVY because to my knowledge that has never happened.
Eff % may have been down some but its the price you pay for fighting TI junk? The BRUCE/IVY campaign was sucessfull in all due respects.

I have to say, I am disappointed to see this, but not entirely surprised.
The corp I am in have hired EXM in the past to help with empire war griefers (the griefers generally turn out to be a bunch of station camping smaktalkers who rarely fight unless it's a solo barge or hauler. So goes empire war nowadays.) I do not remember any problems with them, and in fact i spent a year with them in nullsec after flying with them in one such war!
One thing to note, EXM was not founded originally with WIS as members, it was originally 2 merc corps; Mercenary Forces and Mercenary Beavers. WIS joined at a later date, but since then, I believe both MF and MB have since left EXM (last i'd heard). Please correct me if I am incorrect here.
I wish the fighters goodluck, next time fight your own wars is my suggestion, but EXM could have given more warning that they wanted the fight not the isk.

While Sniggwaffe is definitely not on my list of most favorite corps in Eve atm, this was really funny.
To the OP: Did you not do any kind of background check on the corp you were hiring prior to actually hiring them?

I prefer to judge people on their reputation, not their corp's. Otherwise, you'd be an absolute nobody in a corp that no one's ever heard of.

Well on the topic, thanks for the heads up OP. I can't see why anyone would hire Wise Guys as mercs when they have a hidden additions like "the victim needs to give us good fights" in their contracts. It's supposed to be business after all.
I'd personally just use one of the numerous other Merc groups, it's not like it's hard to find one nowadays, for a important contract I'd use one of the more established ones however.
I can't believe a corp calling themselves mercs would actually do something like this unless it's stated clearlyin the initial contract, and it would still be an incredibly stupid rule if they wanted business. Who knows what other rules they might impose if they notice you are willing to hand out ISK. |

Decision Process

Posted - 2008.07.25 11:28:00 -
[48]
If you're mercenaries, you're hired to resolve a situation, which may involve fighting. If it's resolved without a fight, it's a pity, but it doesn't justify going off on one.
If you're just a bunch of thugs out for a fight, then that's another matter, but don't go calling yourselves mercs if you're in it for the fight rather than the money.

If any research had been done on these guys before arranging a contract, you'd know they're the biggest bunch of bloodthirsty b****rds who were blatantly only in it for the kills. [Alliteration ftw ]

Not such a bad idea - a regulatory body for mercs. Sign up, get license, break rules, lose license, whinge.

How about this...
Rule 1. Make rules to suit yourself in a business that isn't governed by any code of practice. Rule 2. Enjoy Rule 3. Refer to rule 1

Wait so what is the problem? They got paid to kill people, they were going to do thier part, you are the pne who changed the agreement. They didn't dec to help you out, they dec'd to PvP at your expense, 100m not to goto war sounds fair to me. Don't change your own rules, and you wouldn't have to pay. that is something my kids like to do, change the rules after the game has started....

Well Jimmy was one of the most talented pirates I ever had the privledge of flying with, and indeed against. You are a random nobody spouting scripted crap on the forums in a weak attempt to look cool.
Before you attempt you retort with chorus's of "omg come to nullsec and then talk noob" I will state now that I will quite happily take you on 1v1 anytime, or indeed even fight a small gang battle with you if solo isn't your thing, so unless you can back your words up, I wouldn't bother. - Violence isn't the answer, it is the question. The answer is yes. |

Wise Guys are part of the Exquisite Malevolence alliance. I contacted them about a contract. They responded by eve mail with an unambiguous quote for the contract:
2008.07.20 17:02 50 mill upfront for war-dec A list of there most annoying players or all in this case 50 mill paid wen you see we have war-deced them for logisics Only war-dec fees tobe paid in future if they decide to fight If they decide to hide and you want them griefed War-dec fees plus a 100 mill aweek. TERROZ EXM
We agreed and paid the 50M and then 50M when the dec was issued. Shortly after (within hours) we reached terms with the corp that was war dec'ing us.
I contacted Wise Guys and advised them of this and asked them to retract their war dec. In response, they said they wanted 100M to retract or they would dec us.
EXM will commence war on your corp if the 100mill demanded for retaction of war by TERROZ HUN 20/07/2008 is not reached.
You have payed for services and we kill regardless of whoevers hand bleeds. Look forward to ...
I had a subsequent convo with Terroz Hun. He confirmed they would not retract unless paid an additional 100M
Crazy Kalibanov > could you confirm what's going on. are you going to retract that war dec or no? TERROZ HUN > no we are not retracting unless paid 100 mill this has been made clear its cheap really you should pay quickly Crazy Kalibanov > that was not our deal TERROZ HUN > we feel we deserve this as a bonus for a quick response to your peoblems Crazy Kalibanov > that was not our deal and you got a quick 50M for 5 minutes work TERROZ HUN > 50 mill thats peanuts we wanted the pvp Crazy Kalibanov > if 50m is peanuts so is 100m Crazy Kalibanov > you are aware that word will get out that you don't honor contracts and people will stop hiring you TERROZ HUN > i know we dont want to feel were extorting you TERROZ HUN > just being fair Crazy Kalibanov > this is not fair
Think I got it. /Tired We are recruiting.
