Short term: it won't do anything for pvp, that's correct.
Long term: it's preliminary work for planetary interaction, and I hope for you that you don't have to ask what THAT could do for pvp.

I, of course, realise the legion of turnips that will start shouting the usual CCP rhetoric "waaaah, it's on another server, no new lag" blah blah blah... but those turnips have negelected to take into account the company line about Eve voice, and the bugs inherent that crash your client even when you haven't got it enabled.
Oh, should I submit a bug report? Should I wait with my breath held while that email comes in... "Sorry, we looked and couldn't recreate it."
Ambulation is just another disgraceful facet of CCP treating paying customers like dogs.

guys, your all forgetting the whole purpose of ambulation, its not for the PvP, its not for getting drunk in stations...
Its for getting more girls to play eve, unlike us gents, girly girls seem unable to relate to a space ship and a little pic of a face. the need the whole body to understand whats going on.

It will make station hugging obsolete as no one will undock as running around in-station is more fun i want an epic mount in my station as well that i can ride on and a war-axe of doom and a... wait something went wrong.

It's a good testbed for their WOD MORPG, but degree of useful content to Eve... zero.

I like the concept of ambulation, and am looking forward to it. However, it lacking any sort of combat at the outset is a bad thing.
As far as PVP, at least you have the option of docking up and getting in the face of the "I smacktalk from a station but won't undock and fight" punks which will be entertaining at least. If they dont' offer actual combat at least maybe an emote that allows you to "smack em around a bit" would be doable?

Welcome to the eve forums. 
We've been through this before, what it'll do for PvP in other threads.
1. It gives you something to do when you're being camped.
2. It syphons off some of the traffic from the space faring side and shoves them into a newly created area, hopefully making it less crowded and more enjoyable for us all.
I've no idea if you're allowed to go on a fisticuffs rampage or bring a rocket launcher or anything like that, only thing I remember being highly likely is you'll get some form of gambling entertainment most likely included like some form of poker or something.
