I cannot accept this, how can it be that your life, and everything you have worked for or know, to basically have been for nothing? You aren't going to remember any of it, you won't know of anything that happened in your life, who you loved, what you done, where you had been... How do people accept this? To know that you will never know you existed, not know anything, to have it taken away from you... That's not right, that's not fair, and definitely not human.
And thus you realise why religion has such a grip on the human psyche. You fear oblivion and so you are willing to believe some cr@p about a fictional so-called omnipresent, omnipotent deity that offers you eternal life, full of memories of a life past. Does it make you feel happier? The truth is so hard to accept isnt it? When you die, you die. There is nothing afterwards. Learn to live with it and you'll learn to live a happer life. Here is something for you to contemplate: You never truely die until the last person who remembers you die themselves. Up to that point all of your victories, defeats, loves and genius are alive and well. Through your children, through your actions, through your friendships your life exists. Learn to live life and make the most of it.

fear of death is quite possibly the most meaningless fear one could have in my oppinion, no we do not know what will happen to us after death but our body contains energy, and that energy has to go somewhere

But that still means we all shall die one day, I mean people such as washington and alaxander the great wont be remembered forever, and thus even that idea is hard to grip.
I guess your just a stronger person then I because I would like to believe my accomplishments and triumphs will mean something in the longrun.... And if I were to believe they wouldnt I would be a very depressed, and horrible person.
Lastly, Arvald, while im a christian I do tend to believe in just that, that the consciousness can be its own entity and exist outside the body or enter another.

Just like the op, I can't my head around the idea that I'll stop existing. Your existance will be completely forgotten and anything you'v done is in vain. But still nothing to fear in it IMO, millions and millions have gone through it before me and the cycle will continnue after me.
I hold on to that thought.

In order to understand what happens after death you must ask first what defines you as an individual. You will then realize that...
However you people must also understand that my time is valuable and unless I receive a small incentive (no matter how small of a donation - even 100k isk will do) I cannot bring myself to providing a full explanation.

Edited by: Machimpy on 25/07/2008 03:17:32 Screw what yall believe in, you can't deny the logic that some day, even millions of years after your time, your body particles would have dispersed to become part of some other life form. As long you know that while you're still alive and conscious, you should'nt have any problem dealing with death, nothingness or God...

I hope this doesnt sound selfcentered, but if only darkness comes after ones death why should you care about what happens after your death?
Precisely, you shouldn't care, life behaves before you already, and maybe just as well without you. There'd be no point trying to imagine and speculate about it beyond that anyway, leave that to the religious folk.

I dont like to discuss religion on the forums but I guess I will..
Atm most christians follow the bible to the note, I definately do not, infact I tend to believe that the bible is full of stories(some might be true, I tend to believe most are false)but they contain a moral.
NOTE RELIGIOUS STUFF AHEAD.
Now if you ask most christians they will tell you sinning at any time is wrong, I tend to believe the ten commandments(and otherwise) are just lessons to follow through everyday life(ie you shouldnt stab some random guy for no reason)but it is your personal call when the shit hits the fan.
Basically, try your best to be a good person, and youll be rewarded... But I do have an open mind when it comes to religion as im still young.

Hmm, atm I think we die and that's it, but you have to remember that our mind can't exactly create something completely new, everything we create in our head is something we've seen or read about, ie a monster doesn't exist in real life, but the colours, it's limbs and the general concept of arms and legs are from the real world. Try and think of something completely new, you'll find you can't. The point behind that is that noone alive has experienced death so we can't imagine it at all, and we can't imagine not existing for the same reason.
Well that's my mumbo - jumbo out of the way Player x- It's still 4am for the lil ol' amarican and I got to get to bed soon. Player y- You know ur tierd when u can't spell your own nationality. Moleclown- You know ur tired when you can't s |
