Playing a game without the sound on is pretty borring especialy a complex and wonderfull game like EvE.
I, like most people, would really like to play EvE with sound ON but im am not because some of the most common sound that are in the game are simply to irritating and while they are played disable all forms of communication on teamspeak, ventrillo or eve voice since they are too loud compared to the other sounds. Therefore they should be "nerfed" Ha Ha Ha !
irritating sound 1 : The F****** Warpdrive sound irritating sound 2 : The F****** Jumpgate sound
There is also the fact that most people play with more than 1 eve window at a time and simply shut off the sound as ig sometimes get confusing but this can be fixed by muting the sound on your alts accounts.
I also think its probably verry frustrating for all the sound krew of EvE of knowing their work is pretty much not used at all.

I play with sounds.
The only annoying things to me are how loud and obnoxious the combat sounds are. Especially if you're getting hit by a lot of heavy & light missiles. It's ridiculous.
The warp drive and jumpgate noises don't bother me much.
And having two clients running at once with sounds on does NOT work AT ALL. One will distort the other. - Support fixing the UI|Suggest Jita fixes|Compact logs |

I turned off that ass-tastic music on day 1. Some of the other sounds are actually cool though, just the other day I noticed what sounds like projectile rounds ricocheting off my ship when NPCs where shooting it. ------ // This is by design. When a ship jumps through a gate, it clears all aggression. // - BH ******** Pew on gate, if it gets hot, jump through and Ctrl-Q. Game mechanic endorsed by CCP. |

If the game sounds are drowning out things you need to hear, might I suggest turning them down rather than off. I'm sure you'll be able to find a compromise where you can hear everything you need to hear but the loudest of sounds won't drown out comms.
The fact that Stargates and Warping are louder than the rest of the sounds is good because they are the two you most need to know about. If you are running two accounts it varies between handy and essential to have an audio prompt to know that the account you aren't watching is leaving warp. When in a potential combat situation the sound of a stargate activating near you is the most important sound you will hear aside from your FC's voice.
Giving an option to turn these sounds off would be good because options are always good. However I would not like the devs to arbitrarily bring their volume in line with other sounds' volume due to their importance. -

Edited by: Nicholas Barker on 23/07/2008 14:57:59 it would help if they'd give us the go ahead to make our own sounds.
atm it gets you permabanned for using them, and possibly even more for making them.
although, i don't care because... eve has sound?

You can get more than permabanned for making sounds that may or may not be used with a certain closed source copyrighted software title?!

Edited by: Tenacha Khan on 23/07/2008 15:01:53 I like the sound of eve, I play eve souind through my soundcard and onto surround sound speaker, then I have ts/vent/eve voice through another sound card and into my headphones.
You can pick a cheap soundcard up for a few quid and tbh it does make all games alot better.

Wrong. All 3 of my accounts have their sound playing perfectly on top of each other. No distortion at all. You have a crappy soundcard...

I usually only turn off sound, along with effects etc. when I'm going into a big fleet battle.
For small camps and roaming I find sound helps concentration, and is more enjoyable. However, the music is usually off because it can get distracting.
My main gripe is that every time I enter a complex the jukebox starts up again. Even in FW plexes - which have no music! --------------------------------------- Outface the depths of evil with clarity --------------------------------------- |

I like the music. It's somewhat relaxing, good for when you're just sort of idling.
What I don't like is the sound of combat. It quickly reaches an ear piercing level that drowns out all background noise.
Especially missles. Obnoxiously loud and constant. Hybrid turrets also annoy me when they fire. Come to think of it, I'd like the jukebox on, and all other sounds off. Maybe a small warning beep if I'm getting shot, since I like to alt tab occasionally, and would hate to get shot without knowing it...

In other words CCP, please put a volume bar for ALL types of sounds in EvE, as well as music and make all (sounds/music) optional.
Also it won't be too bad if the sounds are updated and made more immersing.

Moreso than custom sounds mentioned by others, being able to determine what sounds you do and don't hear would be wonderful. Most of EVE's sounds are a pain with music playing in the background, but others could be damn useful as notifiers even with music on.

This. I play without sound whenever I need to hear an FC. Trying to work out where he said align to, while 20 people are jumping through gate and its going whoom-whoom is ridiculous. Have an option for eve sounds to mute whenever eve-voice activates. Please!
