Do you think that groups of 20-30 organized, experienced pilots flying Interceptors could be an effective part of a fleet? How about on their own? It seems to me that a 'squadron' of Interceptors that works well together would be a force to be reckoned with, but I personally have never witnessed this in New Eden. The concept seems fairly intuitive to me. What are your thoughts?

Assuming the pilots were well-trained and fit with a variety of e-war modules, a squad of 30 interceptors would be almost completely uncatchable and capable of taking down almost any solo target. However, they wouldn't have the DPS to take many groups and things would get ugly quick if people showed up in properly fit ships to counter you. ---------------- Play EVE: Downtime Madness v0.83 (Updated 7/3) |

This. It could toast most normal single targets. Especailly if you all make sure to stay out of web range. A handful of Huginns, Curses, and/or rapiers will @$## you up big time though _______________

I think your survivability would increase tremendously if you included a few EAfrigates. Other than that, aslong as you move fast trough the systems and don't linger to long at one place you should be okay.

To hell with web range - each inty fits, instead of a point or web, an e-war module of their choice. What lone ship would be a real threat with 5 TD's and 5 sensor dampeners on it?

You don't need 20-30 Inties to be successfull - 4-5 of them will kill a battleship fairly quick, and it's great fun.

Small roaming gangs they can do stuff like kill ratters etc. All jump into system and all warp to random belts to pretty much catch people the second you enter local.
But for larger 0.0 fleets, intercepters are pretty useless. Interdictors are the large fleets intercepters. Seriously, since its kinda pointless flying a 6k/sec+ ship with a point that does crap damage when you could use the same isk in insurance value to get a tier 2 battlecruiser, which actually can take and give out punishment.
Its very easy to trick intercepters to travel 200km+ away from the fleet and ambush them while their mates are too far away to help.
Back to answering you question- roaming gang - cepter is ok. As part of a large fleet, intercepters are poor choice of ship.

They'd probably suffer more from the smartbombs in that case, I would think.

I remember within the first week of FW, Amarr sent over a squad of 15 - 20 'ceptors plus 1 BS to join one of our fleets. Those guys were madmen and in all seriousness nothing got away from us that day.Very effective. |

It's not a bad idea for taking down a single target/very small groups, but it's kind of pointless for a real fleet battle, in my opinion. All of those people in battleships/cruisers would be a lot more effective for fleet battles.

Inties are fun solo and even more fun in packs so yeah, intie gangs are good stuff.
Originally by: GallenteCitizen20080615 doomsday anyone :P
It's generally fairly obvious when a cyno shows up and similarly, a titan is rather conspicuous. Then of course the doomsday takes 15 seconds and inties can warp in 2-5.
So although I'm no expert on titans, I'd think deploying one against a gang of inties to be a big risk with little potential for reward--aka stupid.

Unless you set up a really good trap to catch them with your smartbombs, how do you expect that to be at all effective given the pathetically small range of even officer smartbombs, let alone regular ones?

Add a couple of stealth bombers to 4-7 intys. SB's provide that extra tank-busting ability plus the damps let inty's roll out of target lock range as needed without having to warp.
Great fun indeed...unless you happen to be on the recieving end .

Kitsunes can get three jammers perma on 90km, and have one mwd fitted. Combine with a few minmatar eaf and a few ceptors, and you can move very, very fast. Even kitsunes can reach 3km/s without sacrificing lows.
Extremely deadly for lone targets, very hard to catch, but can't do anything against a good gang. For smaller targets and harassing people, they are surpreme.
