I'm pretty new to the game and just recently got my level 3 agents. I've done a couple and for the most part the missions are doable. The last mission I got though, is really putting me through the grinder. I'm supposed to kill a slave transport and his 2 escorts (MOA Mortifiers). These guys constantly use mwds to get close to me (less than 20km) then just tear me apart. They use warp scramblers and webifiers to make sure they get me (I've lost 1 moa to them already).
I need some help with strategies or tactics to kill these guys. If theres a simple way to kill them, please drop me a tip :)
Currently I'm back in another moa. My current ship fit is:
2 250mm Rails with tungsten ammo (40km optimal range) 2 Heavy Launchers with EMP and Explosive torpedoes. 2 Smartbombs --------------------- 1 Med Shield Booster 1 Med Shield Extender 1 MWD 1 10mn AB --------------------- 1 Co-processor 2 Overdrive Injectors 1 Power Diagnostic ---------------------
I'm trying to take out the shields with emp torps and then use the 250mm tungsten ammo to keep at a healthy range from them. The smartbombs I'm using to take out their missles which they shoot nonstop while they are getting into close range. Like I said, I'm kinda new to Eve with only 2.5 weeks of play and I don't have much skill points.
Thanks in advance for all assistance Drsch

Edited by: Dust Puppy on 26/05/2004 21:05:34 Since you are not getting away anyway might I suggest a different approach. Shield tank your ship. Put a med shield booster, 2xhardener (guristas do kinetic and thermal damage) and shield booster amplifier, or simply put 3xhardener it might be better as you know what damage your facing. You might have to run your shield booster non stop so stuff some cap power relays in the low slot so you don't run out of cap halfway into the fight.
I have no idea if this is enough to defeat this foe I haven't used a Moa in some time.
Edit: and another thing you already know that you will be fight at 20km range so pick the ammo accordingly. good luck. __________ Capacitor research |

Fit 2 more 250mm rails instead of smartbombs, and use Antimatter for < 20k range. (combat) Your Modal Mega Neutron Particle Accelerator I perfectly strikes Zazzmatazz's Assassin, wrecking for 895.8 damage.

The max I can fit are 3 250mm rails on the moa. I guess I need to train more engineering...
Currently, they will kill me within 15 secs if they get within 18km of me... Do you think the shield tanking strategy will keep me alive long enough to kill them? (I'm not asking for a definate answer. Just your opinion on my chances of surviving this encounter when these guys warp jam and webify me)

To be honest I would wait until you get a little better skills. I would focus on your engineering skills, electronics and then move to gunnery skills. Not much you can do really since you are so limited in your setup due to skills.
I have no idea if the shield tanking approach would succeed but you probably can't tank them forever and you kind of lack the offensive power to finish them quickly. __________ Capacitor research |

When I fight I stay out of range and snipe... use iron ammo and at least a 10 mn mwd, (maybe with your lack of navigation skills a 10mn ab too, they can go 1500m/s) 2 regular launchers with defenders and you should be able to maintain a safe enough distance at around 50k.
Barring that, you won't be able to avoid them if you can't outfly them. You might be able to "trick" one of them, only concentrate on one and fly away as fast as you can while firing cruise/torpedos from as far away as possible. Hopefully only the one your playing with will follow you. if they close really close, launch a few drones (250 capacity, 1 heavy, 2 med and 1 small, or 5 small) if you have the skill, they will take some of the heat but they won't last long. Also start off with Iron or Tungsten and when they close switch to antimatter.
Other than that, bring friends heh.

Thanks for the info. Guess I'll go back to the lvl 2 agent for missions. I've had a friend in a bs help me kill these guys before and so I've cycled through most of the kill missions and this is the only one that I can't do solo
It sucks to lose the lvl 3 agent rewards but I'm not rich enough to be throwing away moas yet

Just get somebody to help you. If this is the only mission you can't do solo, it's a shame to miss all the others.
I've found people are usually pretty helpful and if it's in ≥0.5 you probably wouldn't have to worry about getting ganked..."probably", just be a little wise in your choice of who you let help you.
When you ask for help, make sure you're 100% ready to go, don't make them wait for you.
I know if I was around I'd probably help

Thats one of the hardest mission you can see in EVE. I've heard of lots of destroyed Moas in this mission. You have to be real skilled to kill them with a Moa cause they momentary hit you with cruise missiles when I know it right and they fire them in 3 to 5 seconds.
You should stay with that Level 3 Agent and call a friend or a nice guy/girl to help you when you have to kill them. There are lots of ppl. around who would help with this kill.

Edited by: Sternburg Export on 27/05/2004 08:19:33 hmmm I think your Fitting should be this:
2x 250mm Rails with tungsten/iridum for Range 2x 250mm rails with Antimatter for the close Combat 2x heavy Launcher with at least heavy Missiles (widowmaker) -------------------------------------------------- 1x med c5l emergency shield overload (on Escrow for 400k from xoco ;) ) 1x 10mn Microwarpdrive 2x shield hardeners -------------------------------------------------- in the low slots fitt as much cap power relays as possible to increase Cap recharge Rate..
So u can rund this on auto... with the requiered skills...
The Tactic:
warp to them within 60 km.. and then keep them at range 40km or keep them at optimal range for your 250mm rails with Tungsten... make sure that your MWD is running...
And them blow them away with your heavy Missiles and rails...
Otherwise, u can fly with an corpmember and kill them... Or u can take a Battleship.. this will make it easy to kill them... ____________________________ [ 2005.03.31 20:53:50 ] (mining) Your Basic Miner perfectly strikes Veldspar Roid, wrecking for 20 Ore units.

Thanks for the great tips. I'll be loading up my ship with the suggestions after I've got a couple of the skills requirements trained.

Only one suggestion.......Find an Agent in that corp that hands out courier missions... There should b one within most kill corps that give out 50/50 kill/courier.
Saves u going back to your lev2 agent while yer waiting for your skills to b trained..
Boring ..Yes..but atleast u get to keep doin lev3 missions.
Morts a tough mission..heard alot o ppl say they lost moas n caracals to them so dont feel bad about it.
Last time i did this mission i used a BB....used EW to jam one an got in a "Knife" fight with the second (Missile spamming at 15k) ....took a beating myself but managed to get it done.
GL if u ever meet the Dual Inferno's

Edited by: CrazedMutha on 27/05/2004 13:27:06 Best thing to do is warp in at 60km, and keep at range hitting them with heavy missles. If you want you can drop to 40km and use the 250mm rails as well. If they get <35km then use MWD and get to a safe distance.
Distance is key to this. Fit a thermal shield hardener as well, this will cut damage to shields by half.
EDIT: I just died doing this mission goddammit. Be very careful, when one seems to be getting close, run.

You really need hardners for these guys. If you think the Mortifiers are hard. Wait till you run into the Infernos. THOSE guys almost ate my battleship once when I wasnt carefull.
They key is range. Warp in at 60. kite them. fly away from them as you are shooting them. They will follow you I promise. on my MOA, I was using 3 250mm's. and 2 heavy launchers. I had deffenders in both the launchers for this mission.
Hardners are key here. You really need hardners or you wont be doing much. Those are key here.

one mortifier is doable with a moa (don't need anything fancy)
2 at the same time, i seriously doubt it. Use a caracal instead : blast them at 60+km with torps in the worst case, kill one first, warp and come back for the second

I completed this mission a couple of days ago in an Osprey!
Kitted out with 2 Standard Launchers, 2 250mm Rails (1x Scout, 1 regular) Med Shield Booster, 2x Small Shield Extenders, Sensor Booster, 2 Overdrives, 1 Basic Power Diag.
Warp in @ 60km, take each Mortifier at a time (Paradise Cruise to get shields down, then Devastator for armour), if they get to 40km i open up on them with Iridium, 25km change to anti-matter or plutonium.
When shield gets to about 40%, I run the shield booster on auto-repeat until it's back up to about 75%...
Piece of cake...
Approx million skill points & about 10 weeks in game. |

I don't have any problems killing anything except the 2 inferno missions.
Suggestions:
Get 2 reactor control units so you can mount more guns. Also, get at least 1 damage mod in your low slots
4 guns with ammo for around 40-45km range will take care of your problem.
For medium slots get a named shield booster and shield hardeners -- a 50% hardener will give you more life on your shield than a shield extender.

Get a caracal
5 x heavy launcher with widowmakers 1 x 10 AB 1 x 10 MWD 1 x Med shield booster
Use the AB on auto to keep range for a while and fire the MWD when they get below 40km. Effective range of a mortifier is just over 50K. They use scourge missiles.
It takes 35 widowmakers to kill 1. That is 7 salvo's. You can get those of in just over 2 minutes.
With one down the heat will be a lot less. I never even used hardeners with them. The medium shield booster can easily keep up.
