I recently joined eve(again, did the trial a couple times, but never got out of the tutorial) and am loving it so far. I have run into two problems that I think you can help me with. I have finished the basic training, and the first chain or 10 missions. I am not stuck as to where to go. The NPCs don't have anything for me, and there is no real indication which direction I should head to find more NPCs offering missions. Second question is, is there any sort of "advanced" training that you are forced to do? The chain of 10 missions sort of made me do alot of different things to learn the game, but I feel there is alot left unaddressed. I was never forced to learn how to "fit" my ship, but after looking around I did finally figure it out. Any help is greatly appreciated.

if you like doing the combat missions a suggestion is that you run some missions for the local navy - e.g. in Caldari space the Caldari Navy and in Gallente the Federation Navy.
Dock at one of their stations (or use people and places to look them up) and in the top right corner of the screen click the show info button. Then select the agents tab and open up the different divisions by clicking them. Look for a level 1 agent under "available to me".
You can also work for other NPC corps, juts dock at one of their stations and use the method above to find an agent available to you.

Then click Standings - click the 'Liked by tab' - then under corporations click the little blue info button. Then click the Agents tab and that will show you what agents you can and can not do missions for. Then you just set your destination to that agent, and away you go. This doesn't work as well when you first start though, as it kinda fills itself in as you do more missions and get more standings.
Or you can do what I did when I first started and randomly fly around to different stations to find an agent I could use
And yeah, the rest you kind of have to figure out on your own. They really need to improve the tutorial experience. Ask alot of questions in the newbie channel and on the forums, try stuff out, etc.

As far as advanced tutorials there are some in the various menus that you go to like your market menu has marketing tutorials, item menu has item tutorials, etc but for the most part all the tutorials are what you got. That's part of the reason Eve has such a high learning curve, because the tutorial is mostly, "here's enough to get yourself blown up" and you pretty much have to do the rest.
Your best resources are the forums, and either looking for a corp friendly to new players or stick with the starting corp and ask questions in there.

Is there a way to tell what kind of mission(cargo running, pew pewing, etc) the agent is offering before talking to them?

It depends on the section they're in. (Internal) Security agents typically give mostly kill missions. Others give more courier missions.

Edited by: Arch Reyu on 25/07/2008 12:27:27 Welcome to EvE. I've been around almost 6 months and I still am learning things everyday. This game has a ginourmous learning curve (more like a cliff). One thing that REALLY helped me was to read the Player Guides on this site http://www.eve-online.com/guide/en/. The Guides section (http://www.eve-online.com/guide/en/mn06.asp) has guides that cover some of the more advanced issues. Check them out, they helped me a ton.
