Ok I've got my megathron, but I only got skills for cruiser weapons so would my megathron fitted with say 6x 250 rail and 2 heavy launchers be enough for level 3 missions I tried doing them in my thorax and I beat the missions but they were extremly tough , lots of warping back in and out on my part mainly todo with cap, so would the megathron set-up work as like a souped up cruiser, and what would you reccomend i fit in the other slots to help my advantage.

a bit of a overkill there
I'm doing lvl 3 missions easily with my Moa having a optimal range of ~60k + Hardener makes it a breeze.

Edited by: sableye on 27/05/2004 17:45:22 maybe a bit overkill but i just don't have the skills yet to use my thorax to full advantage, the only way I get enough cap with it is if I disable mwd and not having mwd in level 3 missions is pretty much suicide.
So I'm thinking in the low slots
2 anti warp scambler things (can't remember there names)
2 overdrive 1's to help get my speed up
2 inertial stabalisers (? I think these help me turn better I don't know)
2 damage mods
in the mids a large shield booster, 100mwd, and maybe 2 hardners or spemthing todo with cap recharge.
that sound good?
I don't really want to risk my beutiful ship with a dodgy set-up, which is why I'm asking here thx all for your time.

If you don't have the skills to be doing the missions in a thorax you shouldn't even be flying a megathron.
Oh and there is no such thing as overkill when it comes to doing missions. If you do them in a bs you can make a lot more isk in less time.

Your doing missions in a megathron that you don't have the skills to use?!?
You should'nt buy a Megathron if you don't have the skills to use it. Your likely to lose the ship.
There is such a thing as overkill with missions. If you are insuring your ship, and you REALLY REALLY should, then the you are going to have to do a very large number of missions before you break even.
Two simple questions.
Why have you wasted your training time to get into a ship you can't use properly?
Why have you spent approx 100 million isk a ship you cannot use properly?

answer to both is mining.

Sorry but ur wrong. I have now done about 150 Lvl3 Kill Missions in a Thorax without an MWD and never been in real danger. MWD in Thorax is by far the most overestimated component. _______________________________________________________________ [ 2004.04.14 12:26:17 ] (combat) <color=0xffbbbb00>Your 250mm 'Scout' I Accelerator Cannon perfectly strikes Guardian Initiate, wrecking for 172.8 damage. |

Edited by: Chrome Born on 27/05/2004 23:59:17 Edited by: Chrome Born on 27/05/2004 23:39:51 About all of the above posts even the flames are correct, if you cant complete lvl 3 agent mission easily in a Thorax then rethink your skills before risking a ship worth over 10x that amount in the same missions.
As to would a BS do ok on lvl 3 agent missions with medium guns I would say yes it should breeze em, bear in mind that the BS is slower than ur Rax so running away all the time aint really what ur gonna be doing.
My Rax setup for mission is...
5x named 250 mm (normal will do but named do it better and quicker ;)
Med Shield booster, 10 Mn AB, Cap recharger, 4X Reactor control 1's and one cap flux coil.
I target em at about 57k fire a shot or two till they get to 45k then turn tail and leave the AB running while I blast the hell out of em, oh I use tungsten ammo.
I have all my Gunnery Skills at around level 4 and I do mean ALL of em, and nav and AB at 4 same for electronics and engineering.
Basically its the skills you have not the boat your flying that will get the job done.
Hope that helps.

OK - mining is a pretty good reason to buy a megathron if you don't have the other skills for it.

Don't be put off by the answers you're getting.
I used to do agent missions in my Megathron, with 720's ;)
Same reason as you: Mining, mainly.
Your skills will eventually make it possible to use the large guns, but until then, you can use the Mega for agent missions. Just remember sensor boosters, BS's don't have the best locking times ;)
Just make sure to have warp core stabs on, and a dronebay full of drones. The drones can save your butt, if things get ugly.
Other than that, MWD for agent missions is mainly just to cut off traveltime. You shouldn't be too hard pressed on lvl 3 missions...Only a few that can hurt a BS, so remember to check first. If it's "Stop the Thief" mission, or other missions that involve Rogue Pirate Escorts, fit an EM hardener.
Other than that, you should be fine.
Weapon wise...Well, 720's or 250's. Choice is yours, really. Launchers are a plus, too. Just remember to pack warp core stabs. Hehe.
Cheers

I have no idea why you guys want to fit medium guns on a bs for npc killing.
I used 2x mwd, speed mods on my apoc. For guns i used tachys/megabeams/megapulses (mixed it up to keep it interesting). No lvl3 rat ever poses any real threat to a bs.
Most of the time doing missions is spent on traveling, with a bs you can cut down that time by quite a bit..

I could do all lvl 3 missions in a Dominix with no guns. Just heavy drones. Warp in at 15km, turn on my em and thermal shield hardener, turn on shield boost. let the NPC start firing, release my Ogres and Wasps, and go around collecting from the cans while the drones kill the rats. With the Mega this is still possible but harder as you are down one mid slot. If you only have cruiser weapons that the 15km range is better too.
Why did I do this? well Drones dont take ammo, and since I warp in close the cans are close for pick up.

Sableye when you do want to do yourself a favor take the Thorax and learn with it how to fight these Bastardos. They are all doable in a Thorax. I have done them in a thorax with and without an MWD ( then AB ) and its not really very risky when you know how to do.
But when you really want to do these missions in your new toy fit medium blasters and drones and go for a bit more fun in the infight.

Not all Level 3 Agent missions are easy. I lost my Moa at a Caldari Kill Mission with 2 Guerista Inferno and one Indy. The Inferno fires all 5s one Catalysm Cruise Missle! So I've got all 5 sec. 2x 138 Damage with hardener. Downed one and the second killed me. Unable to come in warp, the CM alltimes lowers my speed and push me out of warp direction. Rest of all mission are "easy". But until that time I fly with my Tempest and 6 800mm, 2 Med Samrtbombs, MWD. Jump in to 15km and blast them away (Short looting range speed up the mission). With Med Weapons you will have no probs....

It is overkill but I do my level 3 mission in an apoc with named heavy beams. Why? 8 medium lasers kill anything your agent throws at you in about 20 seconds, you can also warp in at 15km so you're right next to the loot and the tracking won't be a problem. I can do so many missions in the space of a short time that I can afford another apoc just by doing missions for less than a week. The level 3 rats are pathetic and you shouldn't even need to use your shield booster even against the worst spawn.

I do them in a dominix with 6x 250mm railguns with ease.. i used to do them just as easy in my celestis, but its just faster in the dominix. Iv tried using large hybrids on my domi but the domi is such a pain to fit, its alot simpler and probably faster to use mediums.
With any large hybrids the domi is horrid to fit because of the small amount of grid, i could use large rails, but it would take all day to pickup loot. I could use large blasters, but they use too much cap along with the mwd and xl booster.
I just use medium rails simply because its leaves me with 7low slots 5 mid slots, and heaps of grid/cap to improve speed/defence/damage.

sableye, no problem to do L3 kill missions with a BS and medium guns, maybe better to use Neutron guns for close range and warp at 15Km to ur mission bookmark (use drones to speedup deals with NPC frigs).
Swap ur intertia for 2 power diag (to speedup cap recharge) or add damage mods.

<== currently doing lvl 3 missions in a Moa + heavies without problems. In fact kill agents sometimes give out missions that are definitely 'fun' but never anything thatll make you worry. Recently added shield hardeners too making it all even more easy. -----

Yeah I do the same as Orion. I warp in at 15km, fire on the EM and Thermal hardeners, and unleash the 8 Wasps. I use 7 Medium Beam on my Megathron (Small lasers with Gamma S) as I find they track and hit better at the 2000-6000m range than the 250mm rails did, plus no more reloading. It's not like 4 or 5 cruisers pose a threat, the drones alone chew them up with ease and the lasers just help speed it up a little. Very little moving to recall the drones or scoop up the loot, very lazy :)
I could use 425mm rails but that's just a pain with the reloading and more moving to get the loot. It's no faster to kill anyway as the drones have them partway dead before I've managed to even get a lock as it is now.
If you lack the skills though the one thing that could get you is running out of cap. There's a difference between having the skills and being lazy/efficient in doing the missions in a BS and in using a ship you can barely handle with minimal skills/experience. That kind of thing could cost you. Fill your low slots with Cap power Relays and perhaps in your case fit a warp core stabilizer in case you find yourself getting too low on cap and need to flee. |

Fill the lowslots with capacitor power relay's Put on an XL-Shield booster.
Even without hardeners you can just sit there looking at the infernos. With a thermal hardener it can even giv Zor a run for him missiles should he choose to come back.
Personally I run missions with 2 100mn mwd's, ion blaster cannons, 5 relays, and 2 tech II mag stabs.
It's the fastest way to get there, kill them all, and get back in time for the bonuses, when working 4 navy agents. Also the dual mwd's allow you to get through most blockades
