Non-turret based weapons systems == fail on a galactic scale.
DS9 was using its turrets at the start of that video. But even with a non-turreted system, there is no excuse for missing an unpowered spacecraft (that probe) with it is less than a shiplength away.
Me, I just want to crack the event horizon of a black hole, like Voyager did.

Originally by: Aiden Bismuth From what I could gather on the STO forums yesterday, they are going to have PVP, but not sure if it's going to be non-consensual. Also, they haven't said if they are going to have PVP and non-PVP servers, or a "singular" server setup like EVE.
I will give it a go, for 14/30 days. If it's WoW in space, I will stick with EVE.
It all depends how true to the franchise STO is, but ST has always been carebearish, so it would be a bit different than EVE. Let's wait and see when/if it goes live.

Yea, your exactly right.. Simply mention the word PVP and they will get fired up over there... All I am asking for is a good balance, and they go nuts.. I really want to see some success out of it, but carebears like that will make that game last about 90-180 days before it turns into a AoC..

A quote off the STO forums.. While i'm not a pure PVP person, I still love a good honest fight..
Carebear? "I have nothing against PvP...It's just not for Me...But one thing that that Hardcore PvP Players seem to forget is that a strict PvE Player, or even a good chunk of Casual Players, would never play a Game where they could be attacked at any time...Penalty or not...If the Devs here said I could be attacked by another Player anywhere anytime, they are not going to get My $15 a Month...it's as simple as that..."

he's got a point. I stopped playing EVE before the gate-guns were introduced in highsec for pretty much that reason.

CCP has threaded the needle pretty smartly with High, Low and Null-sec.
hope STO learns from their example.
I think that is what most of the STO people don't understand. Personally I don't do alot of PvP, but like I said, I do like to throw out the "duel can" and have a good honest battle every now and then. And I dont want to log on a different server to do it either..

I like it in EVE that there is always a risk of being attacked, wherever you are. However, I also like that depending where you are, said attacker can get blown to pieces by CONCORD, or your own corp mates.
However, in STO. it would be a bit unrealistic in a situation where I am orbiting Earth in my Federation Starship, and a Klingon would be able to blow me out of the sky, as this so deep in Federation space. Also, Federation ships don't generally attack each other, I think it's much the same for the other races in ST.
As far as I can tell, piracy in ST is mostly limited to freighters, and battles only take place in certain sectors of space. I also don't like the idea of separate servers, have gotten too used to EVE's "singular" concept.
The EVE universe and the ST universe are vastly different in certain aspects.
