You, sir, just revealed yourself as an Amarrian Spy. Every true Minmatar loves every single sharp edge of his rusty ship. Remember the one Minmatarian truth: "Form follows function!". It doesn't matter how it looks, it matters how it hits.

Honestly, I'd rather have them spend time learning how to play EVE. Since they obivously don't (Looks at Carrier nerf & Nano nerf).

I hear a lot "don't waste the time" arguments but don't forget their are different developer divisions for design and game mechanics, so don't worry about this nano-whatever thing not getting the attention it supposedly needs. And in terms of "lore" I would assume empire's like the Caldari would one their ships to appear more glorious then say the minmatar.

It absofrikinlutely is important! The OP has a totally valid point. You have to stare at the gooddamn thing for how many hours, it would be nice if it didnt look like something my nephew glued together with Legos. In case of Gallente ships, Legos that were put in the microwave.

I like all the gallente ships and Amarr.
I don't want any of the ships to change, the asymetical ship designs are a big part of the game for me. It's like a trademark. But they did straighten the Ferox at one point, thought it was a shame to be honest.

I believe that most of the people have gotten used to the asymmetry of some of the ships in the game but I also believe to that same end that once the changes are made most people would appreciate the design changes, in fact many ships can be quite difficult to use because of offset focus points, the scorpion is one such ship where a player's view is offset making it difficult to see one side. In addition, the suggested changes would not effect every ship in the game, only specific ones that are in dire need of revamping. I personally left my previous mmo just to be part of the "epic" aspect of eve, and symmetrical ships are designed specifically to accommodate that necessary feeling. In the real world many ships like the Queen Mary 2 are designed to serve both a practical aspect and a design appeal to many, its possible for a ship to be practically asymmetrical; however, emphasis is still directed towards a good design appeal in a practical fashion, appealing and interesting, not many people would enjoy driving cars that had bulky pieces hanging off the side, or ships with propellers everywhere. Anyways, just something to consider

I now propose some changes to the Rokh <3.... First add a bigger "bridge" to the back of the ship where there are two little square bumps and then carry the height of the ship from the front to the back all the way and make it one piece. Then make some sort of a filled in front end, do that and I will worship the design team for the remainder of my like :) Working for you the players, development threads:

Rokh always reminds me of a sawnoff shotgun for some reason...I like it. Scorp is fine, Mega is sex, Raven is....oh so Raven, Moa is like a bit of grey driftwood, Blackbird is crud but with the Falcon cammo and Rook blackball paintjobs its more appealing and grew on me, Manti should be black, Titans all look like awesome superstructures (which they should be) and my Typhoon is the sexiest looking trashcan on the streets. |

Edited by: J Kunjeh on 15/08/2008 18:45:23 Big NO to the suggestion for symmetry on the ships. The single biggest reason that Eve's ships are so amazing and original is precisely because the designers intentionally tried not to make the symmetrical.
From the Art Of Eve book:
"At first, when we started designing the first ships, we were very much for the idea of having as many asymmetrical elements as possible because that seemed so much more interesting.
Asymmetrical objects appear smaller than symmetrical ones because we as humans have visual references in realty - small things such as hairdryers and kitchen electrical appliances that are irregular or have some strangeness to them. We used that fact in designing the frigates and that is the reason why some of them (though not all, as per the Rifter and the Executioner), are asymmetrical. We thought this was very important at the start, and this is perhaps why EVE's ships were so unique. Then, as the ships grew bigger, we started to use more symmetrical shapes because for some reason they seemed bigger to us...There was also the technical convenience about re-using textures on both sides." - Kari Gunnarsson, art director

Regardless, the developers tend to listen to the player base in this game and I've found that the more I look into it and ask around, more people would prefer ships that aren't completely offset or asymmetrical, symmetry can be "original" as well so don't use that as your main argument..... Bah, get out. Scorpion, Blackbird and Raven are some of the most sexy ships in the game, primarily _because_ they're not symmetrical.
Symmetry isn't needed in a spaceship, as there's no drag to worry about anyway.
Or do you hate aircraft carriers because their control tower is off centre? *shock* -- Crane needs more grid 249km locking? |

The Raven reminds me of a ******ed raven I wacked with a cane in my grand mamma's back yard a while ago, it made the most interesting squack when I hit it..... and of course one of it's wings well.... wasn't a wing.... Working for you the players, development threads:

After reading through the posts a couple of times I noticed that players were confused about what I'm suggesting, allow me to clarify. Most of the EVE ships are alright in terms of appearance but some ships such as the raven need changes to perfect the design, ships like the megathorn have subtle offsets which appear fine but I'll use the air craft carrier analogy here. They look fine even with an offset bridge but some ships like the raven appear as though there is the leading tip of a submarine Superglued to the starboard section of the aircraft carrier... I'm not suggesting a complete overhaul of everything in the game just a few ships.... Working for you the players, development threads:
