Yeah this whole speed balnce thing is being aproached incorrectly, i feel like ccp is using a sledge hammer to crack a nut here instead of tweaking the few things that led to insane speeds theyve decided to re work everything and the end cause is the death of gallente blaster boats. For me this is extreamly frustrating i've only just started getting ito pvp and i love my blasterax heck i like gallente ships and thier charge in, do or die mentality. I dont want to cross train to another race not to mention the fact that i've spent ages training my gallente blaster ship skills to a good level and i have no missle skills whatsoever. This patch is just likley to make pvp inaccesible for me at least for a long time.

wait a minute let me get this right, CCP comes up with a new speed nerf and announces it, practically from the moment its annnounced people raise concerns about blasterboats being dead, people go on SISI and lo and behold blasters have been severly gimped to the point where they are usless, CCP aknowledges the problem with blaster boats but they still do NOTHING about it?
Seriously whats the point in having a test server thats open to the players when they ignore any major issue thats brought up, as far as i can see they seem to wrapped up in making the changes how they see fit to listen to a 32 page thread on what to a lot of players is a real issue.
Its bad enough that they are breaking an aspect of the game with this Nerf i mean.. fix.. but seriously its just plain insulting that they refuse to do anything about it when the player base is screaming "your breaking blasters". Personally i think some of the guys at ccp get off on nerfing the hell out of a group of people i really see no other explenation, sadists the lot of em

i'm interested to see if anyone has tried blasters in game now that QR has hit and how viable they actually are?

Pulse-lasers and Autocannons are even worse off then considering their tracking is less than blasters. So maybe we should rename this thread "Large turrets not being able to hit small ships that are stupid enough to get too close".
Have to point out your wrong here, Running a comparision of the largest large pulse laser against the largers large blaster 1st thing you see is that pulse laser has 20km optimal blaster barely reaches 5km so pulse lasers have 4x the range in addition to that they have 8km fall off compared to 6 on the blaster adding even more to the range difference between the two types of weapon. This compares to a tracking speed of 0.03 for pulse to 0.05 for blasters.
NOw lets look at autocannons they have a 0.04 tracking speed and a 5km optimal, worse than blaster perhaps? no, now heres why they have a huge fall off, 16km this acts to extend thier effective operational range significantly.
So why am i throwing range about well thats quite simple, its because the further away you are from your target the easier they are to track, if your being orbited by a 100ms ship at 1km, it covers the kilometer in 10 seconds so is doing roughly 36 rads per second now if we move that ship just 9km further out to 10km it covers that circle in 100seconds and is doing 3.6 rads per second thats a 90% difference (i.e. the effect of a pre patch nerf) INcrease the range by another 10km its doing 20km in 200 seconds doing 1.8 rads per seccond.
This leads to the crux of the argument, because AC's and PL's can operate at a greater range they can effectively reduce the radial velocity of thier target far more than a blaster can, in effect this not only negates thier slower tracking speed but infact goes further the other way, within thier operational ranges AC's and PL's track better than blasters. |

To Amarr Holymight: I'm sorry didnt you hear what i was saying? THE GREATER RANGE GIVES ACs AND PLs GREATER EFFECTIVE TRACKING.
Blasters may have higher DPS but that does them a fat lot of good when they hit so much less often than pulse lasers and ac's that they do LESS damage.
The simple fact of the matter is blasters have higher tracking because they are meant to operate effectively at shorter ranges, with the speed changes the tracking they have is now insufficient for them to operate effectively within thier band of operational ranges.
Effectively now blasters are usless becuase they do less effective DPS whilst still having the disadvantage of being short ranged, i.e. you can kite them etc.
I'd appreciate it if you read what i was saying properly before launching into an attempt to denigrate my post.

yes you are right in saying blasters have always had that problem to some extent but it was something that blaster pilots could mitigate with the use of a web, with the web nerf they arent able to do that any more and that combined with the scram mwd situation which makes it harder still to get in range, deals a heavy blow to blasterboats in general.
I think that as you've kind of pointed out the fact that blasters weren't exatly overpowered is the biggest source of frustration for most blaster pilots.

Thats a pretty good idea actually, makes a lot of sense i wouldnt mind seeing this implemented.
