OK, decided to have a quick bash at capital building, so bought one of those 'bpc sets' for an Obelisk ... 375 mill isk.
Set contains: Obelisk bpc ME 3 + Cargo bays ME 100 + Armor plates ME 100 + Construction parts ME 100 + Propulsion engine ME 30
Just using average mineral figures, I end up with: 15 armor plates @ 4.7 million each = 70,500,000 82 cargo bay @ 3.9 million each = 319,800,000 51 constr parts @ 3.8 million each = 193,800,000 15 prop engines @ 4.5 million each = 67,500,000 ... plus the bpcs for = 375,000,000
Making my build total = 1,026,600,000 not including installation fees, time mining, time building.
WTF? How do people manage to sell Obelisks for 800 - 850 million?

They don't have to buy the BPCs each time. They invest in a BPO and sell for enough profit to pay back the cost eventually. Plus they can always sell the BPO and regain the initial investment

BPO's, using MLCALC, it takes about 780 mil to build one with ME3.

Totally forgot about the one off costs. So if I had the bpos then my figure would be around 651,600,000 isk per build ... a lot better me thinks
Thanks all.

As mentioned. Most people don't build Capital Ships in todays market with BPC's. Super Caps maybe, but even most of those are for personal use.
With BPO's the cost is about 650mil - 700mil Isk depending on were you get your minerals.
The BPO's on the other hand would cost you about 6bil isk give or take though.

Edited by: Bloody Rabbit on 30/07/2008 02:58:25 If you shop you can get the BPC at good rates, I was able to build my freighter for 400~ and no my minerals were from the market so I wasn't getting free minerals. But it did take some time about 30 days of passive looking, I built all the parts and the ship using minerals from market.
But its best not to be on a time line if you want to save isk.
*edit* I used buy orders for the materals

It takes twice as long roughly to make a BPC of a freighter BPO than to make the freighter itself.
Also 375m for a BPC set is a complete rip off. (just over half that is more like it). The guy is on a winner here, he's made more profit selling you the BPCs than he would have building two freighters and didn't have to gather any minerals.
At some points in time it actually isn't profitable to build via BPC because the BPCs take too long or are having their prices inflated due to invention demand etc.
Also my ME2 BPO uses 14/93/52/16 of the components, so I don't think the ME3 one will use an extra armor plate.

True, you could have instantly resold those minerals for 700m ish though to buy orders. The freighter was still worth 700m odd, you just managed to 'make' 300m through buy orders ;)
You can make quite abit by putting up buy orders and just reselling what they collect. Especially if you use a larger range and a wide variety of minerals/materials. People are lazy, that someone else can turn into isk ;)

I do make isk with orders, but I was just pointing out that you can make a profit from the current system. Also the freighter has made me great trading and hauling profits for me
