Hey,
I've been reading the forums and several times I came across mentions of people using different ships or even different characters to salvage their mission kills with. How would one go about doing this? You obviously need the second ship, but does it need an alt? does that alt need to be on a different account? If it does need an alt, do you need to be in fleet with it? I'm just not finding anything on this on the forums...

Edited by: Monkey Saturday on 01/08/2008 13:10:16 If you want a second character to come salvage your mission wrecks you will need a second account, but you don't NEED an alt to do it. Just bookmark a wreck in each room of the mission, dock and complete it, and switch to a destroyer class ship with salvager I's on and some small tractor beams. Warp back to your bookmarks and salvage away without fear of being killed by the npc rats.
*edited for it being too damn early to spell
Thanks for the Maulus BPO nerf! :D |

Some people use an alt, many don't (I don't). I just go back to the station after finishing the mission and switch ships. I use a Destroyer and outfit it with a 4 Salvagers and 4 Tractor Beams in the high slots, an Afterburner and Cap Recharger in the mids and Cargo Expanders in the lows. That's a pretty standard setup, although I have some cap issues with it. I didn't find it necessary to do this until Level 3 Missions. Before that, I just salvaged while I pewpewed.

Cheers. I have been salvaging with the same boat I do the mission with but that makes me concentrate on the salvaging too much meaning my ship might be in danger...I wasn't completely sure if bookmarks would allow me to get back into deadspace from missions, but if that works I guess I'll just fit a cat with a couple salvagers and hopefully tractors soon.

The bookmarks will only work after you turn in the mission. When you complete it, the deadspace and scenery will despawn leaving the wrecks behind. Then, the bookmarks will work normally so make sure you bookmark each room in the mission.

Once you get to the later missions though it can help slavaging with another person, I help with a friend's level 4s by staying 1 room behind and then we split the profit, made about 12 million from the last go (24 in total).

The main advantage of using an alt is that you can clean up the wrecks as soon as you make them, giving less oppurtunity to ninja salvagers (people who probe down mission areas and salvage wrecks created by other people). However, byt the time that really becomes a problem (below level 4 there are plenty of ways to evade the crowded mission areas where these people operate), the recommended approach is to use a Marauder anyway (T2 battleship with improved resistances, better ammo efficiency, large cargo hold and double tractor range) so an alt is more a luxury than a necessity.

I salvage and loot the large wrecks as I go and clean up the rest with either an alt or a corpmate if one is handy and bored. -=^=-

Another advantage to bookmarking, turning in, and going back post-deadspace is you can use an MWD instead of an afterburner. When I moved from my destroyer to my cruiser, my destroyer became my salvage ship. When I moved from my battlecruiser to my battleship, the battlecruiser became the salvage ship. You want to use a ship with 4 high slots if possible (4 salvagers, 4 tractor beams) and good passive cap regen.

A new Salvaging Tractor Beam that transfers the loot directly into your cargo hold! (Tech 2 Obviously)

I expect then in SiSi within the hour for testing...

CCP Taera is fine at math, bad at counting!
Correction: 8 high slots for 4 salvagers and 4 tractor beams, and you still have to move your loot manually, nice try!
