EVE Ships Skills Planner is a small tool I created to have a quick and easy overview of which ships I can fly in EVE Online.
One of the main problem when you start to play EVE online is to decide what ships you want to fly. Once you found a ship, you have to learn all the skills required to fly it. But how much will it really take to be able to fly that ship? And more importantly how much more time would it take to fly it efficiently?
Or, you could be a corporation recruiter evaluating a potential recruit. Can that guy really fly a bomber? or a carrier? or a hulk ? without wasting the ship potential because that player can barely use it (meaning he just has the minimum skills required to fly it) How much time would it take for that player to be efficient with that ship?
Or when a corporation is at war and you are in dire need of snipers or tacklers, how long would it take for your members to train for those roles ?
It is to answer those questions that I created this tool.
For each ship available in EVE Online the tool will display if you have the skill required to at least fly it, as well as the skills you need to fly it efficiently (according to the ship certificates)
Now this tool is still under development. I am adding feature as fast as I can think of them, and implement them. It is also possible that there are still a few bugs that I missed in all my testing.
I will update the News section when I do modifications to the tool. So be sure to check it from time to time.
If you find any bugs, or inconsistencies in the data, please leave a message in this thread (or that one) I will come read it often and try to fix the bugs as soon as possible.
You can get the tool here. Creator of the-áEVE Planetary Planner and the-á EVE Ships Skills Planner |

Version 1.0.0 is now available!
List of features available so far:
- Show the list of ships that exists in EVE Online.
- For each ship shows the Name, Race and Class.
- For each ship shows the minimum time required to learn to fly it.
- For each ship shows the recommenced time to fly the ship efficiently (based on the ship certificates)
- Double click on a ship row will open a popup with the list of skills required and suggested to fly the ship.
- Each skill shows your current level (in white), the required level (in red) and the suggested level (in green)
- You can specify an API key to allow the tool to take in account your own skills.
- You can specify someone else API key to lookup their ships-fly-skills.
- You can modify your atributes to see the impact they would have on the required/suggested training time.
- Supports multiple characters per API key.

Nice tool for quick checkup when for some reason you don't want to or can't use Evemon (can't really think about why it would be a case but ppl do strange things :) ).
Anyhow, keep up good work, one more tool to help newbies (and maybe not only them) to get some direction in overwhelming world of Eve is good thing.
Features that you probably already have on your list: - filters for race, faction, ship class, tier - ships.xml file maybe should be downloaded by the tool if it is not present on hdd, you already have implemented checking for new version so it should be similar case - attributes of character without API key should be saved, I know it is only five numbers to enter but still - usability boost is never a bad thing
That's all I can think of right now after 5 minutes ninja testing while at work :) |

Thanks for the feedback.
This is weird, the Ships.xml should be automatically downloaded if it cannot be found. I will take a look at this issue at lunch time.
Thanks for the ideas. Creator of the-áEVE Planetary Planner and the-á EVE Ships Skills Planner |

Oh, and the reason why this is not EVEMon is because EVE is having a lot of features that cannot make it a bit scary at time for new players. I just wanted something fast and easy for people to use. I do not plan to do everything EVEMon is doing. The people that worked on it did a great job, and I do not want to take over their ideas.
Sometime it is nice to also just have a simpler version of things. Creator of the-áEVE Planetary Planner and the-á EVE Ships Skills Planner |

Rashpla, how were you able to get that bug? Because I just tried it, and upon startup the tool detected that the file was not there, then asked if it was ok to download it.
Unless you meant that the tool should download it automatically if it is not there instead of asking permission to download ? Creator of the-áEVE Planetary Planner and the-á EVE Ships Skills Planner |

I'm sorry for delay but you know real life and all that stuff...
I tried it once more today and if ships.xml file is not present I get error message "Could not find file " + path to a directory where I have your tool and where file is expected to be. Now I noticed that there is skillTree.xml created or downloaded but no ships.xml and no question whether I want to download it or not.
I have Win7 64bit Ultimate and I tried running your tool as admin, all I get is error message. Maybe it is related to some network filters our company has and you are not able to connect with your url where file is? I will try running planner later at home. But I suppose you display question before you try to download a file from your site and I don't see any question so... yeah, sth is wrong. Or maybe it is just a quirk on my machine and if nobody else is complaining forget about it and focus on some new features or promotion of a tool.
And I completely understand that Evemon is little overwhelming especially when you are a newbie and don't really know about all those API keys and tiers and stack penalties and all shabang that is called Eve. For those ppl your skill planner can be really valuable so I am happy you have a will to create sth new for our great MMO. |

I have uploaded a new version of the tool.
The new features are:
- Filtering: There is now a new menu entry 'Options'. From there you can open the Filters window and apply various type of filters on the ships in the grid.
- Grid information: added some basic information about the grid in the status bar:
- Number of ships
- Number of ships you can fly
- Number of ships you can fly efficiently
As usual suggestions and bugs are welcomed. Creator of the-áEVE Planetary Planner and the-á EVE Ships Skills Planner |

This is weird. I have Vista x32 at home and Vista X64 at work. And in both case it is working properly. Could be indeed something related to your work network.
Anyway, if anyone else has the same issue I will try to investigate further. Creator of the-áEVE Planetary Planner and the-á EVE Ships Skills Planner |

Following a sugestion from Barlat I had added support for the Tech Level of each ships. So you can see, sort and filter the ship by tech level.
The new version has been uploaded, so you can use the 'Update' option in the 'Help' menu.

A great program for any new player; probably better than eveMon itself.
Great idea. If i were you i'd try to use a place more frequented by new players to increase its popularity; because,as you hinted, it's not too useful for more seasoned pilots. |

I fix a bug reported by a few people that would show an exception when loading the tool. It was complaining about not finding the 'ships.xml' file.
This is now fixed and the first time you start the tool it should correctly ask to get the file automatically.

Thank you CCP Eterne.
I asked to unlock this topic for an announcement:
I am officially ceasing all development on this application.
The certificate overhaul that came out with Rubicon renders this application obsolete as EVE Online now basically does what the Ship Skills Planner was doing.
I do not know if it is a happy coincidence, or if they decided to use my idea. But it does not really matter. What matters is that now we have a way ingame to know what we can fly and how efficiently.
That will give me more time to work on other tools. Creator of The EVE Planetary Planner and The EVE Ships Skills Planner Author of Immortal Warriors |
