Don't think it's that simple. Although you just were messing with the fact I posted a blank screen. CCP smart to allow that to happen.
HAMs short range, but now as short as blasters, and don't need webs to hit, etc. Drakes were slow before now but absolute speed not a big issue as MWD only used in a HAM Drake to get into range which isn't that hard in normal fights.
But now heavies can hit almost everything, with great range. Other ships now slower, short range guns seem nerfed, so now the heavy missile is relativly stronger now in the balance of things.
And you don't have to get in range with the heavy, as you most certainly will be in range at the beginning of a fight. Can't be speed tanked, so yea once again the missile boat hits all the time.
Also if you want compare the Torp vs the Cruise. Will everyone still laugh when someone brings a Cruise Raven?
Just wondering. If only everyone would get off the OMG they nerfed NANO! thing and look ahead.

Don't think it changes much. HAM ships will still use HAMs and HML ships will still use HMLs.

You guys, honest to God, don't think the speed change has any effect on which missile system to use?
You guys don't think that range matters in a weapon system that can now hit the faster ships in EvE when it could not before?
Let's talk the Vaga. Before HAMs hit for 0 and Heavies hit for 0.
HAM Drakes post nano nerf will still not be able to get in range so hit for 0. Heavies will actually hit.
Same with cruises vs torps.
But the forum gods say "No, nano nerf will not change anything for Sac, Cerb, Drake or Raven."
Brilliant

OK so now the Vaga pilots do not fear the Drake, etc etc, Raven.
But what about post nerf? What ships will the Vaga pilot fear then? Missile ships and drone ships.
They will still be fast but post nerf will not want to orbit a missile ship. They will still be able to orbit a turret ship.
A Vaga pilot may be able to tank the approach to a turret ship knowing he will be safe as soon as he starts orbiting, but that same is not true for missile ships post nerf.
Missile ships will effectively create a killzone that "fast" poorly tanked ships cannot enter.
So it makes sense you would want that zone to be as large as possible.
IMHO

Fear? I dont think vagas will "fear" drake/raven post patch either, nothing really changes in that regard.

No change. Slow down to shoot, which means full on damage from missiles and drones. Only post patch, they'll hurt more.

Same as prepatch tbh. Missile ships have always been hell for minmatar.

Ehh, run the MWD through them. It can't be any worse than heavy neut range... as it's also warp disruptor range. Funnily enough, I've never been neuted in a vaga. People seem to whine instead of fight.
Quote:

It's 24km at maximum. Your heavy missiles won't scare or create any sort of zone.

I urge you to look to these threads I made earlier, where I explain how and why Microwarpdrives must go and give an example for a viable alternative, and then give my idea on how you could balance out the subsequent missile domination.
And you know, any bumping those threads and/or suggestions would be very, very appreciated.

Heavies will have the advantage of range/FOF/sig radius reduction and higher alpha. To answer your question, I just finished training T2 HAM launchers, definitely picking up heavies instead. Been selling off the few sacrileges I owned for a while anyhow doubt I'll buy another one till they go back to the price they were at before their design change from a laser boat.

Aleus and Diabolical, and all the serious replies esp our Minimatar pilot above (BTW, my current ship is a Nuet Domi. Talk obout putting the brakes on a Vaga ).
I recently finished training HAMs to techII and liked the added DPS but hated the range and fitting issues.
Now I see that Heavies, my preferred Drake fit, may be viable again in PvP post nano nerf.
I also like the Cruise Raven, another ship set up that is regularly laughed at for PvP.
My argument is, with enough missile skills these 2 ships (the HM Drake and the Cruise Raven) might actually be welcomed back into the PvP gang.
The problem all along is low SP players are usually the ones that fly these ships, and veteran PvP players usually don't even notice they are shooting at them.

yep the drake and raven imo are the best overall ships in game, best pve and now they are going to be top pvp woot.
i use heavies because of the range and crappy skills i have.

Fittings wise, on a full missile ship that uses cruiser class weapons I'd use long range missiles, on split weapons I'd use HAM because of fittings and I'd probably be at knife range anyway. Not just low SP characters use the longer range stuff, they are just most user friendly to that group. I've never seen a raven turned away from a gang (exception on this would be snipers even though ravens would fit in the missile flight time makes them undesirable), and only very few drakes that were set 100% for tank with heavy launchers thrown on just to fill the top slots. Also like I was slightly touching on before the long range missiles have better tactical advantages especially if you'll be able to flip off microwarp drives with scramblers.

As usual the Caldari ship needs an assist to be effective. So my interceptor will definatly have a scram fitted now (vs disrupter) creating a deer in the headlights moment as gang mates missiles (and to be fair drones [HH IIs] and longer range turrets can splatter the formerly too fast ships.
For Ravens in high sec wars, and low sec pirate ops I think the Torps will still rule as they might outshine the blaster boats post nano nerf. Will wait for the killboards to decide.
As for what CCP does when it introduces a "new idea" MAYBE they let it be overpowered for a while to get players to try it, then when it gets to be too much the FOTM, they "balance it".
As for those who will whine to nerf missiles, too late that already happened years ago.

Isn't that counter intuitive, scrams only have a 7.5km range so if you planning on getting that close why not just fit the high damage short range hams.
I'm thinking about trying out a ham Cyclone again (it's a 5 /3 turrent missile split for those non Minmatar people). I usually go Artillery with HML on it. I think backed up by the new scrams a gank fitted 425mm autocannon with hams would eat cruiser sized ships.

I would not purposely get that close to someone while in a full missile boat, I have more in mind a tackler wanting to close the distance rather than me. In which case their probably small and fast so guided missile precision and crash boosters would be more important to me than a few DPS from HAM launchers that'll probably get mitigated. I expect to have a better chance with stacking bonuses and rigs with heavy missiles and being effective against differant sized targets than using HAM's or I'd have a few extra heavy assault cruisers laying around.

Diabolical,
For a long time all I flew was a HM Drake. It was a nice safe PvE and PvP gang ship.
It's power is it's range and therfore ability to switch targets quickly as primaries are called. Drakes actually do well on killboards, not on a particular killmail but the DPS they put out over an entire fight.
However, having been bad mouthed on the forums so much I "went" Gallente and found a really fun ship to fly, the Domi. Almost the same price as a well fitted Drake as they really only work rigged expensively.
And, yes I tried the HAM Drake, and might try another some day soon. To me,HAM Drake should be rigged with extenders and HM Drake purgers. Not sure why I feel that way.
Now that there's a chance missiles might actually hit them, I really want to shoot at HACs with a Drake. Just for fun. That's what it's all about, right?

Edited by: Atsuko Ratu on 04/08/2008 18:55:20 Some ships don't have the option to fit hams due to grid issues (cerbs, it can fit them, but you might as well go with the stronger drake for this)
Some ships don't have the bonus to fit hmls (sac)
Both will due the same dps to the same target; but hams require a much shorter range, which will now be much harder to get into.
Edit: To clarify, I used HAMs on my drake and never had any issues fighting any nano ship. If I had to be ranged to "Switch primaries easier", I burned out to 50km~ and switched to jav hams (about the same range as normal heavy missiles, 80km~). I don't really see a reason to switch to heavy missiles, unless my speed will be below 800m/s with an mwd in the drake
