How much abuse can a freighter take from a 0.1-0.4 gate camp? Or is it just dumb to even try?

It's dumb to try. Anything which can tank sentries will kill you, and, say, three BS melt you preety damn fast.
Scouts and escorts. There is no issue getting freighters in low-sec really.

a freighter can live if no one engages it, but if you want to run gate camps with it your aline time is almost a minute long and you have the signate the size of a planet, a dreadnought would probably lock you fast enough to kill you.... -------------

Freighter + Gate Camp = "Can I has your stuffs??"
Oh, and if you can web the freighter at the right time it's align time can be cut by 10-30%, maybe a bit more.
TBH, a freighter can't take a whole lot of abuse from low-sec rats much less a gate camp. I should know, I had to move a providence down to 0.0, move it around 0.0 several times, then move it back to high-sec. ____________________

You're all wrong. ![Rolling Eyes](/images/icon_rolleyes.gif)
What the ship description doesn't say is it has an infinite warp scramble resistance. The pirates who may or may not be at the gate will web and attempt to scramble you, which will only let you drop into warp quicker thanks to decreasing the maximum speed needed to warp. The above posters just don't want you infringing on their trade routes. Bloody selfish if you ask me.

until the nerf hits webbing in most gate to gate warps actually can cut align time by 70-80% or basically as soon as you lock the freighter it leaves.
make sure you are in the same corp and be careful doing this near poses.

I wouldn't say as soon as it locks. The freighter seems to need to be up to at least 30% of it's max velocity before you web it in my experiences. I haven't experimented with anything lower than 40%, however, because I was in 0.0 and low-sec last time I webbed one and I didn't want to **** around with having to re-web it, which I have had to do. ____________________

Freighters die to pretty much anything that can tank sentries and do ANY dps. im rather confident if a given ship can tank sentries, and has a point/web, your dead. Most ships can do this rather quickly too.
Generally, the only way to not get killed by a gatecamp is to not jump into it (or get lucky and have someone web you before they get a point on you)

Don't travel through lowsec without a scout. Have the scout fit at least one webber, 2 is better.
If the scout sees a gatecamp, don't jump in. If the gate is clear, jump the freighter in. Start the warp of the freighter and lock it as fast as you can with your scout. If you double web it, it will warp instantly (with 2 90% webbers it just has to travel 1 m/s!
Oh, and I guess you're smart enough not to buy that infinite warp core strenght crap from above ;-)
