Yes. If you're very much into a game, chances are you're also into all the paraphernalia surrounding it, so I suppose those active players would care quite a lot about those things…
…or did you mean to say "couldn't care less"?

Well, it depends on what your objectives are, really. Also, you are posting here and i am assuming you are neither. As for RPers. I am an RPer, but I have zero RP in Eve. You can be one and not participate in it in this specific game.

I have the opposite experience, really. Things like a back story are extremely important for the overall user experience and atmosphere of the game. Even though you might have never read any of the back story, a lot of players that you interact with have read it and their actions have a profound effect on your own game play. In fact, a good story is absolutely vital for any game, even something like Counterstrike has some form of story behind it and it would have completely failed to become as big as it has become without it.

Your post was about White Wolf and White Wolf has very little to do with Eve. Only recently they have been involved with Eve as a product and (although I have no way to verify this) I am pretty sure that White Wolf spends only a minimum amount of time and resources on Eve as they are still focusing on their own products (they churn out an enormous amount of books and other products every year).

Well for some, and I guess "some" are quite a few, EVE is a hobby, a hobby even worth enough to fly to island for.
To spend time and effort into a game, be it to build a empire in a space game, have your friends online and just have a laugh, run around and blow up as many CNR's as possible (yes I liked your vid)
Everyone takes different to EVE and having a card game, novel, art book, star map or a shot glass with EVE on it just expands your hobby and builds up outside the online aspect, why should CCP not do this, more faithful fans in EVE = more iskies for CCP |

No. Perhaps they could care even less... That would require the release of a cool new product. Perhaps you would enjoy some... EvE pogs!!!

And they are a company, who is going to spend it's assets how it see's fit. The 'White Wolf' deal allows CCP to focus on other genres, even other MMO's, so that they might one day expand beyond producing a top-rate product and various side products to one of the most ungrateful audiences in the industry.
But yeah, if CCP didn't commit resources to a niche player base, EvE wouldn't be here. And I don't think there's any logical reason that CCP *shouldn't* spend ITS money and ITS resources catering to as many niche audiences as it wishes.
Stepping off the pedestal for a moment, I don't buy their playing cards and whatnot. Maybe if they sold some figurines of eve ships, I might collect a few. And I've thought about wearing a t-shirt or two. To me, though, it's interesting to see them market the same product to so many different individuals, while not 'selling out', so to speak.
A comparison would be Blizzard and WoW. There is Warcraft stuff everywhere. I have no interest in any of it. But for some reason, what Blizzard sells feels cheap and exploited, to me, and what CCP produces feels top quality and in keeping with how good their game is.
Just my impression.
This...oh, this, this, this FTW.
CCP SHOULD be spending their resources finding new ways to spread the Eve meme everywhere they can. If they did it in some cheap, consumerist way, then I might not be so hip to it. But every single thing I've purchased from CCP, or that's Eve related, has been of the most excellent quality (the Eve art book, EON mag, the game itself, etc.). I'm simply blown away by the absolute commitment to quality these guys have.
I think their acquisition of White Wolf was a very smart one and it will lead to bigger and better things for Eve and for CCP as a company. I mean look at Ambulation; I bet that wouldn't have been a reality as soon as it will be if it weren't for their work with White Wolf's WOD.
CCP is by far one of the most intelligent and strategically smart development/publishing houses I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. May they live long and prosper (and teach other development houses how to play smart!).
Oh, and yeah, they have incredibly thick skin to be able to handle the CONSTANT criticism from a vocal minority of their player base. Ungrateful indeed.

Oh, and I too would be the first in line if CCP produced quality models of the Eve ships. But ONLY if they were up to the quality of everything else CCP has done; but I have no doubt they would be.
I wonder what ever happened with that. I was reading the first issue of EON last night and there was a little article in there about CCP having ship models in the works.

I would love some Eve Pogs.
Anyway, I think the WoD MMO has the potential to translate really well, and given the world it is, I have the most faith in CCP for this one.
And the game that wasn't bloodlines was Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption, which was more of the Diablo style, and was utterly awful, yet I soldiered on through it anyway.
I just wanna know two things, is the MMO gonna be the new WoD, and which will be the focus, Mage, Werewolf, Vampire? Or what are we going to be looking at?

For a start, CCP and White Wolf have merged. Nobody has bought anyone else out, and nobody is in control of the other. They are working on joint efforts in the form of the Ambulation (and i'm hoping some plot) for Eve and the upcoming WoD mmorpg.

I was totally bummed. I quit for a few months, and now they're out of those Minmatar keychains.
If they have some books at PAX this year, I'll probably buy one. I've enjoyed the short stories on the site, and I like the EVE universe. Hopefully they'll keep up all that kind of stuff.

Actually, here is how it will work:
"The combined company will continue to operate under their respective names. White Wolf will be operated as a wholly-owned subsidiary of CCP. Hilmar Petursson, Chief Executive Officer of CCP, will be CEO of the combined company. Mike Tinney, President of White Wolf, will continue as President of the independent subsidiary. Further, White Wolf will continue development and enhancement of their entire portfolio of gaming products."
So yes, after the merger, CCP will technically "own" White Wolf.

I, for one, would love to see a White Wolf MMORPG. I would rather it be Exalted than World of Darkness since I just started table-topping Exalted again. I think the whole concept of factional warfare would lend itself well to a persistent story of Creation and the Wyld.
There are certain aspects of the game that seem impossible to have in an MMO. Like, how could you use most of the Social, Presence, and Performance charms on other players to influence them? Also, having a twinked character out of the box is a pretty foreign concept to MMOs. Most Exalted characters start off extremely powerful. Balancing would be very difficult. That said, maybe WoD would be a better choice, but Exalted is my favorite by far! |

Original poster = Epic fail.
Apparently a lot of people care about the novel. All the people who, y'know, actually realize that Eve has a setting and a backstory intersected with the group of people who read books.
Also, you have no clue how things work.

Originally by: Spaztick Would WoD be more of your typical RPG where combat is the main focus, or would there be other forms of combat (such as marketing in EVE), where you have this cold war-esque between werewolves and vampires?
It would have politics. And vampires and werewolves are actually best of friends.

It takes place in a gothic version of the modern day. It is also populated by a few vampires, werewolves, fairies, and alien-worshiping cultists.

…so it's pretty realistic, apart from the whole bit about only have "a few" alien-worshipping cultists.

Just posting in this thread to say I was among those first to purchase a White Wolf product, sometime back in the very early 90s when they published one of the best RPGs of all time, Ars Magica. Long before collectible card games and world domination, that original book was a simple black cover with a crudely hand-drawn red logo. Great game, best magic system ever.
How far they have come.
So a WW MMO would be cool, but I guess I'm the only one that would prefer an Ars Magica MMO than a WoD one (although I'm also excited about a WoD MMO and will certainly play when it comes out).
