I have a top notch audio system on my computer also and I have to play with the ****ing sound turned off because it lags so badly when the sound is turned on. I can't tell you how annoying that is... They really need to do something about that.
Anyway I saw a dev mention not wanting to add too many extra effects into the game because they would cause more lag. No Hello-Kitty Tempests for us I guess .

If you had the option to individually allow skins to render, you could eliminate all the lag... It just has to be coded properly. Though that's probably tough for CCP

Here are the truthisms. And you know what? It's that impressive/good/mainstream a change that it should be paid attention to and implemented.

Using terrain strategicly during battles would be a quantum leap forward in EvE combat.
Yes, not being able to shoot thru roids and structures.
Yes, being able to enter a planet's stratosphere to escape larger ships! Imagine the fire trails. Might even need a joystick to fly the ship then..gasp.
Nope, we are fish in a fish tank. No terrain for us. Yet we might be able to walk in station. woohoo!

If the station system offered more gameplay options it'd be really awesome. As it stands it will increase immersion (always good) but could handily decrease the ease of ship refitting/market purchase and whatnot.
I think it'd be awesome to be able to actually board stations/ships and attempt to overtake the crew to "hijack" things. Properly done this would increase immersion AND give rise to new gameplay strategies. If you can hijack a ship and use it to access an enemy POS and sabatoge the shields/guns/stront stores etc then you open whole new strategies for warfare.

Just hit F1-F? timed such that the missiles travel in a steady stream toward your target... psychologically worth an extra 25 DPS. Although if your foe is set up for no-lag fleet and has missile effects turned off, it's just a pretty light show for you.

well, I dunno why the devs would not want to do it, I mean, as we mentioned, players can load them individually, or all at once (as I suggested) so it's OPTIONAL TO THE PLAYER as to whether they would like to load the textures... I know I would. ________________________

Screw all of these suggestions. Corp logo would be good enough for me (only if I could place it wherever I wanted...).

So you come into my thread and say "screw it all", but I want this thing you mentioned, and this other thing you mentioned, and this version of this thing you mentioned, but don't bother fixing this thing I don't use?

I predict none of your proposed changes making it ingame anytime soon.
Why?
Let's compare guns and missiles:
When you fire a gun in Eve, two events occur: The gun's damage dealt is calculated, and cosmetic effects are triggered. These effects are just that - cosmetic. They have no grounding in the physics engine. The position of a turret on a ship has no effect on its performance. The direction that a turret appears to be pointing and the animation of a projectile streaking towards a target both have no impact on the effect of the shot. The ammunition that you fire is not represented by the physics engine at any point in time - it only exists as charges in your weapon or cargohold.
Missiles on the other hand are tied intricately into Destiny, Eve's physics engine. When you fire a missile it not only ceases to exist in your launcher's ammo supply, but it spawns in space. Like any object that is spawned, a missile needs an origin. The initial location of a spawned missile is the same location as the ship that launched it. To be spawned at the location of a ship's missile launchers, Destiny would need to know where the missile launchers are. This is currently way beyond Destiny's capabilities, as all ships in Eve are represented physically as spheres. All facing that you see on your client is purely cosmetic. To distinguish the location of a launcher would require Destiny to track a new facing vector for every missile-equipped ship in the game. The facing vector by itself would be a lot of extra data to keep track of, but we're only yet scratching the surface of what would have to be added. Once a facing was established for a ship, the location of its missile launchers would have to be established. Let's look at what this would mean for a Drake on the battlefield: A Drake has seven launchers. Each launcher presumably has a unique location. This means that for every server tick Destiny has to figure out a facing vector for this Drake and calculate the coordinates of seven launchers.
In review - to be able to spawn missiles at the launchers that you see, Eve's physics engine would need to perform an extra calculation for each ship and each missile hardpoint present, once every second. CCP's programmers have better things to do than to rewrite the physics engine for the immersion of (what I suspect to be) a minority of players who actually play so zoomed in that they can see their ships' missiles being launched, and care where they come from. I would appreciate the change, but it's not going to happen.
Also, CCP has invested a huge amount of resources into their skins. They put approximately 50 man-years of labor into the Trinity artwork, and most of this would be for nothing if they opened up the game to local skins. Eve is CCP's world, not yours. Yes, you can quit the game if you don't like it, but even that probably won't influence them much. I imagine they'd get a LOT fewer new accounts if prospective players saw videos of fleets of Hello-Kitty Tempests.
Double also, a very large portion of the playerbase (myself discluded) play Eve with sound disabled for performance reasons. If you want CCP to pay someone to make new sound effects, you're going to need to give them better requests than to 'fix' them. I suspect that ANY gun noise, played over and over for hours on end, will not be 'menacing'. I personally think that the missiles sound like missiles firing, and that warping sounds fine (as long as you only have one client going).

maybe i ask too much, but all video games have a set of sounds for every event, in eve it's all the same

As for custom skins turning off potential players - get real. If they don't like custom skins, they don't have to play with them. 50 years of skinning my ass - I was (still am) part of a community that skinned high-res models (higher res than eve ships) - more than 30 a year, with a team of 5-6 unpaid artists.

I can definitely see the point of the first part. But here...

Well, both of those things are really not too relevant, are they? Of course you should keep base ship characteristic features, lines and contours and composition, not to mention that even for RP reasons certain details or materials should look in a particular manner. But to completely limit the skins, not even pondering adding some options for shading and tinting, logo spaces or minor customizable parts or additions, or variations on the current plates, antennae, rigs, etcetera...?
I appreciate the designer staff's hard work and diligence. They really outdid themselves with things like the Merlin, the Arbitrator, the Rifter and all their variants, the Abaddon... But sometimes, you've just got to give the players some variety at least.
Ever played City of Villains? I found that game relatively crappy gameplay-wise, but still immensely fun due to the level of customization in appearances that can be achieved. And I think that even though it's just a cosmetic change, and even though they are up to other projects, this diversifying and individualizing, this allowing of distinction to players and alliances both, is something that should take precedence over ambulation and be implemented, and would bring even more glorious style and precious players to the game.
Also, I really, really want to see a spike- and scar-plated black and rusty red Pilgrim, like some giant, hideous, fire- and radiation-scorched insect, looming off the edge of a Feythabolis nebula, waiting for closing prey...

A "magenta" absolution? Haha.
Car trouble, that's always a *****. I can relate though. Picked my car up from a Mineke a few days ago, made it about an hour down the road (all the way from north side of boston to the west side of boston, lol) before the same problem struck again and I ended up at another Mineke. My car battery died on an impromptu road trip to Virginia (I was stationed in Fort Gordon at the time). Rather than do the smart thing - you know replace the battery I just kept looking for hills to park on and performed rolling starts. Being one of the only people with a car meant I could con people into pushing my car until it started if they wanted to go anywhere. I got by for 3 or 4 months doing that.
