I was in a FW fleet and some members were getting camped in the starting system by a well known corp. One of the FW fleet members was getting quite frustrated at the situation and smacked a bit in local. Then, two things happened.
First, we had 6 GMs in system within about a minute or two. That was pretty dramatic. I'm not saying smack is acceptable, but I found the response time and size interesting, to say the least.
Then the player is fined about 3.2 billion (that is billion-with-a-b) isk.
Now, I find that number a bit hard to grasp compared to my normal wallet size. Conveniently, the isk for ETC lets us evaluate that number in other terms. ETC are running about 400 mil per 60 days. So, 3.2 billion is 16 months of EvE game time, or well over a year of playtime for a few minutes of smack. Or, we can back convert that to cash. Those 60 day cards are $35 on a site I buy from, so 8 cards would be $280. A few minutes of smack will set you back $280.
I agonized for a while over posting this. I suppose I will get banned and the thread deleted, but I frankly haven't felt the desire to play since I saw this happen.

Edited by: Dirk Magnum on 05/08/2008 13:24:38 You get temp-banned for relentless smack if people complain about it. You don't get fined.
Either the player who was smacking lied about their punishment by saying they were fined, or he was an ISK buyer who had the ISK confiscated.

Edited by: Sky Grunthor on 05/08/2008 13:24:50 AFAIK, smack is not fined. So if the guy claimed it happened he's most likely lying. Swearing in local can get you silenced by the GM. Its petitionable and actionable.
however... the write up here sounds very hard to believe. Especially as it is very extreme. Search: Sky Grunthor |

I believe IC smacktalk is accepted as long as it stays "EVE related" and doesn't become some form of "border abuse".
Might be mistaken.

No, you're right - it was abusive. Punishment was definitely warranted, though from what folks are saying the isk fine was likely due to purchase? odd coincidence in timing, but if so I apologize

Meh… could be both.
Nub is abusive. Nub gets petitioned. GMs check nub's logs and account details. GMs notice umpteen bazliion ISK being transferred from known sellers in recent history. GMs silence nub and removes bought ISK.

Quite possibly he got petitioned for one thing and that drew attention to another thing like a 3.2 bil ISK transaction from a character named xingduao. So next he got parted with the ISK.
Getting caught buying ISK is embarassing and because this is the internet where you can easily lie and distort the facts people make up all kinds of fancy stories to explain to their friends why they can no longer buy or sell stuff, or upgrade their clones.

Edited by: GM Guard on 05/08/2008 14:45:03 I can't quite grasp how a story like this could get off the ground but allow me to clarify a few details just to make sure no one is buying into this.
1. Smack does not result in a fine. 2. GMs don't travel to systems to deal with smack complaints. 3. GMs don't go in-game unless specifically required and all in-game sessions are clearly monitored and logged.
Simply put, this story is nonsense.

Are you sure they weren't scammed? It may have been a some players with dev-ish names, pretending to be GMs. Did they ask for the money, or did it just vanish from their account?
Whatever happened, it sounds petitionable. Scams are one thing, but pretending to be a member of CCP staff is a banable offence.

This one time, I made a joke in local, and within 15.2 seconds, 35 GMs were there, all in Polaris Frigates, with GM Smartbombs. They blew up my ship, podded me, podded me again in an alpha clone. Then, I found out I lost 15billion ISK! And I only had 250mil to begin with!

I'm fairly certain a 32 bit integer wouldn't be sufficient to hold that fine. ---------------- Play EVE: Downtime Madness v0.83 (Updated 7/3) |

Just Goons really.
I kid, I kid. I've been preparing for a social experiment.
Step 1a: Detox forums from my presence. Step 1b: Start posting. Step 1c: Stop posting when I've accidentally stepped on someones eToes again. Step 1d: Collect statistical data. Step 1e: Repeat from a) or break. Step 2: ??? Step 3: PROFITS!!!
But we all know all statistics are made up on the spot so, yeah, essentially it's a scam.
