Edited by: Gone''Postal on 05/08/2008 17:40:14 While I understand that the dev's would like players to test on sisi server, this I don't mind doing, even bug reporting from it.. I don't really care.
But what is an Issue:
If I train something on Sisi, and then it gets mirrored it gets lost, and I have to retrain what I trained to help CCP test.. now to me thats just stupid. why should I help test? Give me a bone here CCP, I want to help..
I'm not asking for uber max chars, just make all skills a low rank or something, sure everyone would be OMG titan fights to begin with I'm sure of, but more people would help test other ships as well.
Logicly speaking.
EDIT: Way to many typos..

I think the reason that they don't is fear that people will ignore the real server and choose to only play the test server. If you can get 100 million SP a month on Sisi, some people will abandon the slow grind of TQ in favour of the instant gratification of Sisi. That said, I don't think that fear is especially justified - how many people get a game, and then never turn off the cheat codes? Sure, you'll play around with them, but then you go back to something that actually involves accomplishment.
Also, in a similar vein, research and construction time on Sisi should be lowered dramatically. ------------------ Fix the forums! |

One problem with sisi is that many times with new features the only people who can test them are those who will directly benefit and so have little reason to point out things which are brokenly overpowered. Way back when, UO had a test server, when you logged in you were given massive piles of money, resources, etc. Sisi currently comes close with the 100isk items, but a lot of stuff is missing. More importantly, you had the ability to set your skills to anything you liked. This let people test changes that would otherwise be untestable. It lets people test things they would never actually use. More people testing is always better.

Even if this were to occur it would be a case of good riddance to bad rubbish. It'd get rid of a certain element on the tranquility server and leave it to more serious players. Those searching for the easy button get a place more to their liking and get out of the hair, partially, of those who dislike easy buttons. Whichever server is used, CCP gets paid.
Good proposal. If for no other reason than to make testing work as testing should work. I'd go even further and say all skills should be maxed for everyone on Sisi or better yet allow everyone on Sisi to choose the level of their skills. Give everyone a chance to test everything and anything. Upsides galore and not one single downside that I can see.
Best regards, Windjammer

I'd support this as long as a player would get to set their character's skill level instead of just having every skill. I know players use SiSi for more than just looking for bugs. If you had every skill you'd have no way to really see how your build would work on TQ.

This should have been done YEARS ago.
Skills should take 1-10 sec per level, any level, any rank, to train on SiSi.
With this simple change, ANY player could test ANY change that CCP made.
Thier feedback would skyrocket, and their testing potential would rise with it.
And how would impact the game: it wouldn't at all. It SiSi. It has NO direct impact on TQ.
Get it done CCP. |

You don't want 1-10 seconds training time as people will just stop playing on the main server then.
You could limit it to 2,5 m extra SP or something.... ?
It could also be a great tool for people to find out for wich ship they should train (as it takes incredibly long and you want to make the right choice)
so its a test for both CCP and yourself :)

Agreed. This could be an issue if CCP didn't take simple precautions; like, say, SiSi resets to what your character is on TQ every DT. That way, no matter what you do, you don't get to keep it from day to day; and you have to start over training what you would like to test from day to day.
Also, I agree that 1-10 sec is a little extreme. I prolly should have gone with like 1-2 mins.
Cheers.

testing purposes? HELL YES.
The no.1 issue I have when CCP deploys upcoming ship/skill changes is that 99% of the time I dont even have anything close to the prereq's to even test the changes, thereby leaving me out of the loop and unable to give my input that could potentially be very very valuable. -

A lot of people use Sisi to find and test for bugs/exploits, but not to report them to CCP.
People discovered doing this, and porting their exploits over to TQ, and not filing the appropriate bug reports should be permabanned.

This isn't about everyone running to test the capital fleet blob, CCP ASK us to test on Sisi, But what if you don't have the skills to test what they ask you do but would like to help? Never mind, i'm sure 30 days of BS5 or 20 of cruiser 5 or whatever will fly by, and i'm sure the patch won't be released until you have had to wait to test it.
and what do I have to do to get a member of the CSM to vote in here?

I have been reading this thread for a few days now. I'm quite split on this issue.
I agree that when a new ship is released, people should be able to test it for everybody's sake. The more testing the better. Of course CCP could just apply these skills to all characters. But that's time-consuming.
So I guess this is the best way to work this out. |

It looks good, you could also add a pitch for players who want to see if a ship class is for them. There are a lot of times players (especially new ones) who think bigger is better, waste a lot of time training for a ship and find out they hate it. In my opinion nothing is worse for business where a client cannot test a product before they buy it. You can change anything i said to fit in your proposal, but i think it's another valid reason why skill training should be changed a little bit.
Edit: supported your proposal

the devs commented on this earlier. they said that the test server needs to be an exact replica as the real server. if you alter certain parts because 'it's just the test server' then it isn't the test server anymore. because if you alter training speeds and stuff like that, it will be harder to find bugs that give you better training times and stuff.

I do see what your saying however CCP have already removed the POS's from Sisi so it's not a exact rep of TQ, even if they can't give us the option to pick what level of skills, I'm sure they can reset the skill training times all to rank 1 on it without dire comebacks.
TBH it's CCP's choice however I'm done with the testserver until CCP either stop mirroring the damn thing or, when it is, the skills you have trained on there stay.
I've lost count the number of times i've trained or even started to train to help them test like they have asked only for it to get mirrored, if a sub capital** guy wants to test carriers out, they either HAVE to spend all that isk on TQ and wait for the next mirror OR train it on SIS and hope to god they get round to learning the skills to a functinal level before the next mirror. both of which isn't really a good model for a testing server//area.
**i've used capitals as its the biggest isk value skills

i dont think this will happen because there are times when the test server could be unavailable for a few hours to a few days depending on the changes being tested, it wouldnt really benefit anyone to spend all thier time on the test server since there is no guarentee that it will even be up the next time they go to log in.
I like the OPs idea in that it would make it easier to test out certain game mechanics for new patches. Hoever, I would have to disagree with it because it gives younger players the opporunity to fly ship they otherwise havent earned the right to fly yet in a consequance free environment, the thought that a brand new player could log onto sis and then get to experience flying a capital ship after a few minutes as opposed to a veteran who waited years is a little scary, plus since sisi is consequence free said pilots would really have no need to learn to fit and fly the ships properly after all who cares its only 100isk. The only way I would support this is if they limited sis to pilots with a set number of skillpoints.

Originally by: Herschel Yamamoto I think the reason that they don't is fear that people will ignore the real server and choose to only play the test server.
Well, where there is will there is a way.
Some things that can be considered to reduce worries of abuse:
* Only allow a certain amount (percentage of your real SP) to be trained instant or extremely fast. Also make a reset option to revert to your real skills so people can try out different new content!
* Set a minimum 'online' level to make sure it is an active player on the live server. I am not sure CCP has all these statistics but it should not be too hard to get something that serves the same purpose.
My favorite option would be option one as this allows players to test things that are beyond their reach or not even live yet. But not do so in a disproportionate way! This fully removes any abuse of new players dogfighting in titans or whatever! |

The issue was voted on and received support for escalation. So hopefully we will get an answer in a month time or whenever the next CSM-CCP session is.

At the very least this could be used to get your skills up to date with what your character has on Tranquility so you can properly test out some setups.

They shouldn't let it be any different than the main server. The whole point is to test how changes would affect current game dynamics. If everyone could speed train or have access to all skills, no one would be using what they would be regularly using in game so nothing would get properly tested.
All they need to do is mirror more often for things to match up.

At the very least, give us the ability to mirror our character from tranquility on command instead of once in a blue moon.

Edited by: Raging Taurus on 05/11/2008 20:10:52 Great idea...After all, a test server is intended to test different 'options' before investing time (and thus money) on TQ - having to wait as much as on TQ to train for skills doesn't help at all, especially since different options might need different skills. Some skills could be really long too; just think about wanting to try 2 - 3 carriers before going for one on TQ.
Facilitating testing will also benefit CCP as players are more likley to identify bugs quickly.
So full support to any option which would significantly decrease the time needed to acquire skill levels on test servers

Edited by: Von Kleist on 19/01/2009 19:23:44 I dont know if this has been mentioned yet, but could there be the possibility of using your characters sp total as a bank, and spending them on skills to test out the new things introduced that you normally wouldnt have specialized training for? Could just reset the skills at each update for mirroring.

Propsosed solution: Change the forumla for skill training time on sisi only.
Normally rank1 skill lvl 1 takes X time. lvl 2 takes X^N. Lvl 3 Takes X^N^N. etc...
Just change the value of N to 1. So lvl 1, lvl 2, lvl 3, lvl 4 and lvl 5 of a skill all take the same amount of time as lvl 1 does on TQ.
This would mean that you can do lvl 5 of a rank 10 skill in about 30 hours hours (6+6+6+6+6). You can do lvl 5 of a rank 1 skill in about 90 minutes. etc...
This would mean that it would not signifigantly reduce "annoyance" skills that you need lvl 1 or lvl 2, but it would cut 5 days out of doing a "prerequisit" skill. It would cut (for example) 42 days out of training jump drive calibration 5.

It's quite annoying being new to the game and getting my ass handed to me when I try to test new fits by people who are 3 years old+...this will make it even.
And, I get to try out the shiny titans! Oooo...shiny...*BOOM* ----------------------------------- "What can go wrong, will go wrong." |

Edited by: TomParad0x on 01/03/2009 22:54:22 I agree with this, in fact, there is another relevant post having to do with this here: http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1011490
where I have posted quite a bit in. Also providing the idea for the +whatever skill implants to make it faster (NOT instant, but FASTER).
I feel this would benefit testing, and should *AT LEAST* be tested so we can have, without a doubt, an answer as to weather or not this will be bad or good for testing, rather than just guessing it will be bad or good.

Edited by: Here4TheKill on 08/03/2009 07:43:59 How about an alteration to the character sheet skills tab, an added drop-down box, to where you can alter the level of the skill, for say learning purposes and formulas. You set the (skill) to the desired level but still have the option to train skills. instead of modifying how fast the skills train, give a dual ability to affect their level. As for testing learning times try this scenario, you set all of the learning skills to either untrained or 1, pick a skill, say spaceship command, set it to level 1. Now, test the training and other effects on the skills time, this would give you the option to just test the times easily or jump straight into different situations. Bug hunting would be much more efficient and with the added ideas of resets or other possible "freeloading" players with titan dances, testing of new changes would be incredibly accurate. This along with the devoted or logically thinking players would create very detailed and well rounded ship configurations and enable inexperienced players to also find their niche in the game.
Edit: tired, poor sentence structure, and my jumbled ideas. Enjoy

Forget it, They talked about this issue a while ago, and could not even be bothered to post the results, I had to evemail a CSM Member to get them.
and his reply was something along the lines of.
sorry we didn't post about this. Erm. we forgot. DEVs don't want this, were not doing it. (they don't want the database changed for any reason on TQ > Sisi) (Guess they forgot about POS's)
