I'm having problems with sound, have had since install, despite driver/os updates etc. My sound stutters, c-rackles and pops - no other aspects (graphics,etc) having problems. I have searched the forums and seen the only solution offered is to turn down hardware acceleration. Having tried it I can say that in my case that doesn't help, in fact it makes it worse.
Despite the fact I don't see that this will help in the short term, I am posting this in the hope that devs/customer services don't forget out those of us getting headaches or playing with no sound. If however anyone does have stroke of genius and finds me a solution that WORKS they get some ISK  .
There are alot of posts on sound related issues, coming from people with a huge range of systems/sound cards - this really needs looking at from a serious technical position. I think there is something wrong with your sound implemtation for this many posts to be about. I find it difficult to recommend to a game to people when something so major is so flawed  and I can only recommend based on my own experiences.

Intel P4 2.53
512 DDR pc2100
Microstar MS 6579 mobo
GeForce 4 mx420
Hercules Gamesurround Muse 5.1 DVD & have also tried Soundblaster 5.1 digital
PS - Where are the known issues? Shouldn't there be a sticked list here or at least a link to one out of the forums. Preferably with a status indication of each one, for example, being looked at; fix in testing; no hope in hell.
PPS - For the sound sufferers. If you didn't know (and I didn't for some time) ctrl+alt+shift+f12 turns off sound.

DO some background reading about your motherboard.
Are your bios/windows drivers up to date.
I do not know your board, but this is similar to the experience I had with my board.

You wouldn't happen to use WinAmp would you? Winamp causes issues with most Soundblaster cards/chipsets. Actually it's probably reccommended you shut down any and all programs you don't need while playing Eve just to be safe ;-)

Everytime i have had such an issue it has been related to the drivers. I would look into your sound card drivers. What kind of network card do you have? is it built into the board? Does it share the same IRQ as you sound card?
Make sure your sound card gets its own IRQ. That can be a tough task. Blame Microsoft. its not their fault, but they certainly use the power/pressure for profit, they can use it for good as well.

I started getting this all of a sudden on my creative audigy set up a few days back, no known reason why.
I've re-installed my sound drivers and it's fine now, so if you haven't already, I'd suggest either updating them, or uninstalling and re-installing them.

Some good suggestions here, try them all. One other I can think of is your pci latency might be set to low, this is especially a problem related to via chipsets, more so with the older ones, but will effect other chipsets as well. I was having this type of problem with my audigy 2 but changed my latency on the sound card from 32 to 64 plus since my radeon 9800 pro was running at 248 i set it down to the mid 100's without any noticable grafics degradation. Do some reading on the net about the pci latency problem to get a better understanding about it.
If you want an easy way to change you pci latency I would suggest a program called powerstrip. It is a video tweaking program but will allow you to adjust the latency on just about all your pci devices. Hope this helps.
