I don't think there's a great deal of skill or ship setup needed for a ninja mining ship compared to a normal mining ship. Just find an empty belt, align yourself to a warpable object and warp out if npc come in. If you are feeling extra nervous keep yourself moving towards a warpable object so you can insta warp out.
All you have to take into consideration with the ship is mining output and cargo capacity. So don't use a lvl 3 cruiser for example.
Couple the above with a good safepot with some cans, a hauler with some warp stabs and a close eye on the map and it's a pretty low risk occupation imo.

The Vexor is a great ninja mining ship.
If you can't fly a Vexor, the Omen is another nice ninja mining ship.

Oh. But you asked about skills too.. There are no required skills but having Evasive 5 is good because you line up to warp out real quick. --------------

Osprey is a perfectly good ninja ship. Largest cruiser cargo bay, too.

Since when did Cruisers and BS fall under ninja mining ships??
Ninja mining has always been a term meant for frigates that warp in, mine real fast until pirates show up, and then warp or MWD out very fast.
Unless you in a really dangerous system that has alot of BS spawns Cruiser and BS don;t even have to leave, they can tank and use drones or one mounted weapon to clear NPC.
Best ninja mining ship is a Probe with a MWD on it :)

Edited by: Shamis Orzoz on 03/06/2004 00:16:31 For a noob, the best ninja mining ship is a probe. For players with decent skills use a Thorax with warp core stabs and a MWD. The BEST combo is to use a Thorax to mine, and a probe to haul to a safespot, then use an indy to haul to a station. But then again, I'm a PvP'er and I don't know how to mine, so don't listen to me...

I don't really think the Thorax is a good miner at all. Its cap is ****, its cargo is ****, and its looks are barely better than any other lump of green...
Its like using a Rupture to mine...without the benefit of that other cap killing miner... ____________ Sex / Rank 9 / SP: 1280 of 2304000

I'm seconding the Probe option. As frigates go, it gets the best cargo with Minmatar Frigate skill level (5%) and can carry two cargo expanders I's which makes its cargo just less than 600. MWD/AB's and you're mobile as well.
Only problem then is the lack of Miner II's which it can't really fit too well.
But its cheaper than chips so you can buy 5 of them and still not be close to 1 million! (50K isk)

Ninja mining : when you do not mine into a can, but use your cargo hold and empty it in safe spot cans.
Best ships for this definition : cruiser: probably vexor, I hear Osprey is good too, but no personal experience with it. with 4 expanded 1 vexor can get 960m3 cargo space which is critical to your output. a 5/4 miner with 4 lasers can fill it up in 3 minutes, and it take another 2-3 minutes to empty it and get back to the rock, dependingon how good your bookmarks are. Outfit it with MWD, 4 miners, and 4 expanders. Shield booster won't help you anyway, just don't get caught Frigate: Probe. 2 miners and 400m3, much slower then vexor b/c of the only 2 miners, but only 50k to lose.. Skills: mining skills, MWD, evasive 4 and spaceship command 4. I'd say level 5, but that takes a while... TC

Edited by: Lentia on 03/06/2004 18:19:07 Edited by: Lentia on 03/06/2004 17:50:13 Ninja Mining (non-jettison mining) Best Ship: Vexor hi: 2 m2's, 2 xecls' or cu-vapors mid: mwd, cap recharge, small shild Low: 4 named expanders (mine had 1200 m3)
The concept here is filling your hold warping off to safe spot dump rinse and repeat. So the bigger your hold the more ore, and the less time u spend warping. So cargo is the key. If you have 5/3 mining you can bring in 18 bist/min *16 size * 4min is 1152 m3 of ore per haul which is 72 units of bist.
If u use all (4) m2's you will need cpu in low slots, less cargo and hence way more time warping back and forth....
Otherwise use a thorax with drones and 5 m2's (think u may need 2 or 3 cpus) jettison mine into a can then come back with your indi. May wanna warp in with indi at 500 km and scout and have a perfect bookmark to your can. This is the most efficient form of solo mining with cruisers.Cannot fit a mwd though. And you will be very busy transfering ore at least thrice/min!

When I think of ninja mining, I think of people out in 0.0 mining Ark, Bist, or some other good ore.
I want something that will survive a spawn out there and a cruiser fits nicely.

Yes to use a thorax to ninja mine requires decent skills. And it is not the best non-jettison miner, but you can still ninja mine effectively using a probe to haul since when the npc's spawn you will never have to leave more than 600 m3 of ore behind. A good probe pilot can keep up with a thorax running 5 miner2's.

Depends on what you are mining. Last time I did it, I was mining crokite. I think I made about 8 million an hour, but that was using 2 accounts. The distance of the haul is the big variable. Assuming you haul all the ore to a safespot, you still have to move it all to a station in an indy. Which is usually dangerous (since if your ninja mining it usually means you are the minority in the area) and can be time consuming.

Depends how you do it, where you do it and what ore you do it on!
I ninja mine with a Maller/Apoc combination in an Ark/Bist system with station - Maller does the mining (able to fit 5 M-IIs, LiF AB, cap recharger, ore scanner and enough cargo for the 400m3 of Bist I can mine in a minute) - when the rats come, I warp out and go fetch the Apoc to clear the belt again.
On average, say 30 mins between rat interruptions, each one interrupting mining for say 15 mins. 30 mins is 750 Ark/Bist which is approaching a hauler-load so throw in another 15 mins to haul it.
So that'd be 750 Ark/Bist per hour - plus the bounties (say another 200k or so). Which is probably slightly conservative but gives an idea.
Have been doing this for a while - never even come close to losing the cruiser. And BS has the advantage (over normal hunting) of knowing exactly what rats you're facing and where. So it's fairly safe, really. Quite possibly safer (in our experience) than guarding a mining op is!

Edited by: GREATONE on 06/06/2004 14:35:07 first of all if your member of a big alliance like FA you get your self some secure cans large ones place them at a secure place nearby then pick a big belt start mine on one side then look over to the otherside you see for example a bistot roid then click on it set warp redy and warp right away when rats come that will putt you around 800km from them but in same belt then after like 5 to 10 min they will try to warp in on you then you do same thing as before warp over to otherside after doing this like 3 to 4 times rats will fly away and leave you alone for lets say 20 to 30 min that means you will be able to mine all the time no running and get a bs etc etc you will mine very fast and with secure containers you can mine alot without moving to mutch and when done haul it all in........this is ninja using a bs aint ninja mining
ps: im using a raptor for this also make sure you got a spot to scout belt from before you go in if not you might warp in on 10 ships hehe

Agree. Great cargo hold and good miner. Also has good turning point necessary for quick getaways. My ninja miner of choice, even over thorax that suffers from poor cargo hold.
