Actually, what ship equal size or smaller even has a chance to win agaisnt a skilled Ishtar pilot?
Nano Zealot?
Some ships can fight it to a draw, like a drake or some kind of ewar ship, but what ship beats it?

I'd say that a Drake will wtfbbqpwn any Ishtar dumb enough to stay near it... and a Curse can def. take out an Ishtar.

If curse is faster than ishtar (rare but happens) ishtar is in deep shite. If curse is slower - still can get good fight but in "brute force" attempt ishtar will just mwd to curse, web it and kill with heavies before curse meds kill ishtar.
Other tricks involve sentries, orbitting and stuff like that.
EDIT:
as for killing nano ishtar:
- zealot will just obliterate it
- vaga with EMP possibly will kill extended ishtar before dying itself
- sacri ... depends
- huginn easily
And so on.

maybe it was just bad circumstance...
I warped to a gate (I had an Ares with me as well) and see the gate activate. Wait a few seconds and ishtar un cloaks, before i can even get up to a speed to outrun his drones, Im in structure.
I was dead in 23 seconds..

ok, here goes, a stabber would be MY first thought, now i would take into account the fact that the mail would be awesome.....then i would think kiting his drones(while i have him locked down), and killing them slowly while he watches would be second, then i would start on him(step three probably taking a long time), all of this while outmanuvering him and his drones(this is kinda hard to do).
i will add that, you have a 33% chance of survival(that is off the top of my head), maybe it will be alot lower, but the setup on a stabber is cheap and that mail would be a shrine to for all to see:)

pilgrim would be better as you can buffertank the hell out of it AND you have the added HOLY SHIT WHERE HE HELL DID HE COME FROM factor with the cov ops cloak, but yes id imagine if you were good enough then you could easly take an ishtar in a curse

In short, yes, the Curse should beat the ishtar - but it takes time.
1) neut the Ishtar, point it.
2) web the drones, use warrior 2s to kill the drones.
3) switch to medium drones and web the ishtar.
4) kill ishtar.
points to watch: if ishtar has guns, use TDs. if ishtar using medium drones, concetrate on the ishtar. Watch local because it may take a bit of time.
To be honest, there are very few ships that can kill a Curse 1v1. . .and even in those situations its close.

Zealot, Drake with hams + MWD + WD + webb - you won't see many of these, and even a Rupture can do it if the pilot is not too smart.

Actually the only reason the anathema was on there was because he ran to a safe spot and I had to probe his arse down. Soon as I pointed him with the curse the anathema was already cloaked again and the fight was a 1v1. Not like an anathema can change the tide anyway...
PS - The target painter is to get a faster lock for other ppl coming in.

Actually they have quite decent traking, and against something that doesn't have a web you can use the sentry drones stationary position to drag your target into even better tracking and optimal. Have fought off quite a few nano ships with sentries.

A curse will not kill an Ishtar (Ishtar has more HP, better DPS and it's relatively unaffected by neuts in this case).
A sacriledge is perfectly capable of killing an Ishtar if it can web the Ishtar in the current nano age. In a pure match of gank tank the ishtar as only SLIGHTLY more gank to the Sac's substantially better tank (when nano'd)
The cerberus can drive an ishtar from the field when using heavy missiles but it won't achieve a kill. When using AML + Precision Lights the cerberus can deliver loads of damage to the Ishtar but if the Ishtar pilot decides you need to die things go downhill fast. Not operating natively inside warp disruprtor range (much less web range) means you won't get solo kills in a Cerberus, and if you do cheers - you got a kill doing it wrong 
The Deimos can kill an ishtar IF it can get in range AND get a couple of webs on there. Most of the time the Deimos will just explode though.
