It seems every time I log in it takes more and more time to get past the Authenticating stage of logging in. Is there a reason/workaround for this?

I often notice the authentication is very fast just after a new patch has been applied. Then it slows down over time again.

Same problem. Extended authentication. The first log-in of the day I can actually make coffee and come back and it's about ready to see the character screen.

This. HDD is going grazy and the client shows "Not Responding", then finally it wakes up and shows char selection screen. _____________________________ BPQ Recruitment |

after every DT it will need to re-grab lots of cached stuff... but after that it will be fine. if you HD is churning, then I suggest a de-frag -- BIG Lottery, BIG Deal, InEve

It isn't a defrag issue. My drive is defragged and it still happens. I never can understand why people tell you to defrag your drive- I don't think it has ever helped a single thing that was wrong with my systems.

Don't think that's the problem here. I can reboot, not open any programs other than EVE and it'll still take ages. If I leave task manager open when I launch EVE I don't see any huge jumps in page file usage anyway.

Fraid it isn't, i had this the the first 18 months i played eve, first time you log in the hd light is on permanently for 2/3 min while eve eats your disk, then after that it logs in in 5 sec (until you reboot). It fluctuated for a while before the empyrean age, ever small patch that came out would remove it them it would creep back over a week untill the empyrean age came out then it simply vanished, and my logins have been 10 secs ever since.
Defragging won't work, adding more ram won't work (unless it horribly low ofc ), speeding the cpu up wont help and most odd of all clearing the cache increases load time. It's like eve is just eating the disk because it can, well anyway something going funny in the eve code.

With modern os it probably won't, actually you'd be as good just hitting system restore, but defrag does reduce load times and seeing as that's (the apparent) problem he suggested it.
Just to keep rat happy this is a vista 64, oced e8400 with 4 gig oced ddrII, but my pc has always been kept well above spec for eve anyway ***The EVE servers and their patches*** |

I invite you to submit a bug-report.
The cause of this is in the SETTINGS folder under root drive:\Documents and Settings\ <user name>\ Local Settings\ Application Data\ CCP\ EVE\ <eve folder>_eve_online_tranquility
If you rename the settings folder, ALL your settings will be gone, but the game will start superquick, as intended.
This is however obviously a bug. My ideas for the reason are: MARKET QUICKBARS OVERVIEW TABS
Would look that when you set those, the game starts taking forever upon connection.

let me put it this way 1) after a DT the 1st login will be longer than average 2) after that logins are quick - like 10 seconds
I only notice longer logins [maybe upto 30 secs] on one of my connections which is a bit on the slow side - the other one has a much faster link and I never notice long logins
so make a BR and post that to the bug's site

It still takes a long time to authenticate, but after renaming my log folders (had about 30,000 chat-, game- and marketlogs heh) it's lot faster. Before, it could take 2-3 minutes to authenticate, now it's down to 30 sec. |
