You're Right, we're not using a telescope when looking at our ship out in space, we're using high-tech camera drones built with technology 20-30k years ahead of ours. Of course that isn't capable of more impressive feats then our own 2 eyes, we demand black space and no nebulas, naow.

Its getting even more depressing the moment you know that the revamp of planets is on the "wish-list", but there is no date set for it yet.
There was a post from a dev about this, search it if you dont believe me. On the other side, i'm happy they are still working on it at all to be true, other games never bother to update grafics at all.
