Okay, so here's the deal.
I've been running my 2 PCs on WinXP Pro, with the file format as FAT32.
I had my shares set up so that that the root of each drive was shared so I could read/write to anywhere, from either PC.
After much convincing, I recently converted the drives to NTFS, and now I can't access anywhere beyond the Shared Documents folder on each PC over the network. I just get a message saying you might not have permission to use this network resource.
Can anyone tell me how I can re enable my previous functionality? I can't convert back to FAT32 now without losing everything.
Doh!

Edited by: Tarek Tarazul on 13/08/2008 14:33:09 I'm not sure, but you could try this:
make the drive uhm a "?shared folder?"
then go to the security tab and give the user in question read/write or what ever access.
click on ... advanced? (sry, have a german version) and select the check box saying smth like: "Replace privileges for all for all subordinate objects with these entries if applicable." Again just guessing the engl. phrase, so there will be smth different.

I assume you're running bother computers under admin accounts.
the easiest way to do it is to make sure both computers have exactly the same login / password scheme, then you can simply access each computer drive by using their admin share.

Alternatively, allow Guest accounts, and then each system won't have to authenticate.
However, this is a security risk.

I just opened this thread, and the very first thing I read was "eaten by bunnies". No idea why. Can't find anything thats even slightly like being eaten by bunnies. Must have been a premonition.
If anyone gets eaten by bunnies in the next few days, I'm calling shenanigans. ------
