Hello all,
Played for a bit now, but first post here on the forums after lurking for a while. My preferred ship is the Battleship, and I have decided to shift away from Minmatar and start cross training in Gallente. I would like to fly a Hyperion, (I currently fly a Maelstrom), but looking through battle-clinic, I cannot seem to find any builds that are highly or even moderately recommended, for the purpose of level 3 and 4 missions. Keep in mind, I don't expect to have a raven-like level 4 mission running ability, just, you know, a balanced dps/tank. Any suggestions from anyone? Or can you point me to something I haven't found? Thanks a bunch!

With good Gunnerys the Megathron is actualy better for Missions, thx to the Tracking bonus and the extra Dronebay.
Dominix is also preaty good.
CanŠt see any reason to not use the Mealstrom, it can tank quite good and is easy to fit, Damage is accepable with Artis. ---- Nerf Tank - Boost Gank!

Liang,
Yeah, I have heard that about the Domi. My problem, and it is, indeed, a problem, is that I am an aesthetics man, and I simply cannot get around the domi's crazytastic flying blob look. And I love the Hyperion's look. Simply love it. Just don't have a clue how I might start fitting it

Yeah,
8x 350mm 5x cap chargers 2x LAR, DC, 3x hardners (or 4 hardners if thats what u fancy and know what your doing)
Rigs : 1x nano pump, 1x cap regen thing, 1x hybrid dmg thing Drones : 5x meds and lights
Does missions easily. No travel time from drones is the big plus over a dominix.

You don't want to mission in a Hyperion, will take twice as long and cost twice as much --

He wanted to do missions, not tank 10/10 plexes solo...
Havent used hyp myself, but i use navy mega for missions. This is mainly EFT whoring, but anyway: [Hyperion, PVE] Large Armor Repairer II Armor Thermic Hardener II Armor Kinetic Hardener II Armor Kinetic Hardener II Magnetic Field Stabilizer II Magnetic Field Stabilizer II
Cap Recharger II Cap Recharger II Cap Recharger II Cap Recharger II Tracking Computer II, Tracking Speed
425mm Prototype I Gauss Gun, Antimatter Charge L 425mm Prototype I Gauss Gun, Antimatter Charge L 425mm Prototype I Gauss Gun, Antimatter Charge L 425mm Prototype I Gauss Gun, Antimatter Charge L 425mm Prototype I Gauss Gun, Antimatter Charge L 425mm Prototype I Gauss Gun, Antimatter Charge L 425mm Prototype I Gauss Gun, Antimatter Charge L Drone Link Augmentor I
Auxiliary Nano Pump I Capacitor Control Circuit I Capacitor Control Circuit I
Hammerhead II x5
Problem is low tracking + no afterburner though. Is without too much trouble possible to use t2 guns. You can use 4 hardeners in the beginning to get a bit experienced with it, but it should be able to tank with 3 hardeners. Just make sure you got decent drone skills because your guns arent going to hit anything close.
For those intrested in what eft says about my eft whoring, lvl 5 skills not overloaded, no implants, gang bonusses or other crap: Cap stable Over 600 dps tank vs guristas With antimatter (not faction) + hammerhead drones 584 dps, 36km optimal on guns. With lead (not faction) + hammerhead drones 440 dps, 72km optimal.
If you use lead it will be even cap stable without skills.

Hmmm, okay I will try that. I am not familiar...but are those 350mm blasters or rails? (I am only familiar with Projectile weapon names, and in that universe, those would be ACs)
If anyone else feels like tossing in their two cents, go for it. (It will be a while 'till I can properly fit a Hyperion anyway, going for T2 drones atm, as those are the one thing you can't get really really close to with named meta-level 4 equipment.)

I fly a Domi and a Hyperion. For missions the Domi is certainly the way to go. If you do go Hyperion my advise is to use large rails (425's) for the far stuff and drones for anything under 35k. The Domi is again the better choice for mission running/drones usage though imo, but I know what you mean about being seen in such a ugly ship.
The Domi should be recalled like a defective automobile...I wonder if the same artist that made the Domi designed the Hyperion? Hard to imagine...the Hyperion is artwork whereas the Domi is...again, just ugly. If there was a ship that needed a extreme 'do over' when it comes to ship models that would easily get my vote. Some guy actually started a thread to get the model reworked, he even sketched some designs. Lets hope some Dev sobers up long enough to stumble upon it and likes the idea too.

They're rails. In the BS class rails come in 3 flavors: Dual 250mm (fastest tracking, shortest range lowest damage) 350mm (middle of the road) and 425mm (slowest tracking, longest range and highest damage - most ships have trouble fitting a full rack of these once you reach the Tech II varients of the guns)

Heres what I would recommend for the hyperion
Highs 8 350mm 2's
Mids 2 tracking computer 2's 3 cap recharger 2's
Lows 1 LAR 2 3 hardeners (I use 1 therm. 1 kin. and 1 EANM for serp missions for ex.) 2 Magstab 2's
Rigs 3 CCC
for drones I would recommend 3 sentry and 5 light... but if you want to move around some go with 5 medium and some replacements instead of the sentries.
With my skills, this puts out 463 gun dps, has a range of 35km with antimatter loaded (2 optimal scripts), and you can also switch scripts and get great tracking. Cap lasts for almost 6 minutes with 4/4 cap skills, almost ten with 5/5, and the tank is enough for most missions (that I've found at least). Nowadays I missionrun with a kronos, but with the sole exception of 1 more magstab and using 425's instead of 350's, thats the exact same fit as I have (well... and dropping a cap recharger and tracking computer in the mids for a webber). Once you get used to it, upgrade to navy antimatter and navy magstabs and the damage will amaze you.

Fly a domi for a while. You'll hate it. Then you'll be irritated, but deal with it. Then you won't mind it. Then all of the sudden, you'll love its amorphous sexy curves.
Gallente as a race have ships that may seem ugly at first, or only ok, but then you become attached to them.
@ the Drone travel time fit: The domi fit that liang has shared in the past is sentry fit, thus no ammo use, selected dmg type, and no travel time, and it works quite well.

The Dominix is ugly! But to avoid looking at it too much I recommend to zoom out so far that you just see a dot on the screen.
Mission running in a Dominix is the cheapest way to do it - at least if you manage not to lose a couple of t2 drones in every mission

Looks like a fair fitting, I would say use 4 heavy drones in that bay though, max your damage, they will still pop frigs pretty easy (if you let the frigs get close when you could quite easily instapop droves of them at whatever range). |

This is what I use for mission running:
[Hyperion, missions w AB] Capacitor Power Relay II 4 rat specific hardeners. True Sansha Large Armor Repairer
Cap Recharger II Cap Recharger II Cap Recharger II Cap Recharger II 100MN Afterburner II
350mm Prototype I Gauss Gun, Uranium Charge L 350mm Prototype I Gauss Gun, Uranium Charge L 350mm Prototype I Gauss Gun, Uranium Charge L 350mm Prototype I Gauss Gun, Uranium Charge L 350mm Prototype I Gauss Gun, Uranium Charge L 350mm Prototype I Gauss Gun, Uranium Charge L 350mm Prototype I Gauss Gun, Uranium Charge L 350mm Prototype I Gauss Gun, Uranium Charge L
Auxiliary Nano Pump I Capacitor Control Circuit I Capacitor Control Circuit I
Hammerhead II x10
Get all your support skills (any skills that effect how well you do in this ship) to 4 at least, cap skills to 5, then you can perma-run everything. Use keep at range set to your guns optimal on the target your attacking, target webbing and/or scrambling frigates with your drones. If a frigate doesn't web or scramble (webbers are a problem, since a good part of your tank comes from being out of range of the close range NPC ships), let your drones attack it when they feel like it.
If you watch your aggro you shouldn't have much trouble soloing level 4s with the right hardeners.

I have not any problem with my navythron. 7x 425mm + 3x damage mods kill things pretty fast. the tracking bonus make you able to shot also at medium range. for close range ( < 10 km ) i have a webber. Last but not least, 5x t2 medium drones kill fast small targets also without ship bonus.
Domi is not better than the mega.. its just different and easier to use. Mega need just more practicing and knwledge what ships engage first, what leave hem just come close ( for drones) and what try to kill from distance.
i used all of them in that order:
domi: ugly but effective and easy to use. You cant do wrong with it
hype: uber tank but some dmg problems.. also the lesser target range does not help.
mega: imho better as the hype once you learned how to use it. A bit dangerous since its easier be in trouble if you do not pay attention what are you doing. Risky but also funnier, i go quicky bored in a ship that can survive and kill everything afk. Mega require attention and tactic. In other words need that player are skilled not ( only) the char.
navy mega: mega with one more damage mod. its just a mega with drolling factor added. :D
About the tanking option: i started with a uber tanking dual lar hype. Then i saw i never needed more than one. So i removed 1 LAR for something more usefull ( typically hardener or damage mod). Still with one lar i saw that i was repping far more than needed. So changed the hype for a mega ( removed the not needed tanking bonus for a more usefull tracking bonus) and was happy with my choise. Navy Mega its for more pimping ..
All above its just imho ...

armor rep bonus on the hyp works like having 2-3 additional auxiliary nano pump rigs. Also nice to run single repper. tracking bonus on the megathron is like having 5/4 of a tracking computer. Also, if you are using 425's, you start with low-low tracking, and 138% of nothing is still nothing. Sorry to point this out.... Mega's drone bay still isn't big enough to carry 5 heavies and 5 lights in the same mission.
conclusion: The hype really misses the extra dronebay and the the loss of a low-slot. But putting 2 MFS II's on the hype is easy enough and it's the better choice for a mission railgun boat.
Of course if you wanna fit it like a buffer tank megathron, you have my permission to whine about how the hyperion is too expensive.

Well cost isnt an issue for a mission ship.
Mission ships don't buffer tank (not interested in what nutters have done or how successful they have been).
The tracking bonus does help the mega for stuff getting close.
5 Heavy drones can kill any mission frig anyway, I don't bother with lights.
All this said; In hindsight I would have been better off using a hype for missions than the megathron I used since before the hype existed.

Pretty solid setup, perma tank, pretty good dps, and nice skinned hyperion ;)

Does missions easily. No travel time from drones is the big plus over a dominix.
but domi has no travel time from drones, the recalling of your scout drones will take way longer than a domi to recall its drones.

Hyperion is the defacto blaster ship for gallente. Its nearly pure pvp/pos shooting.
For lvl 3/4's, i'd go for the dominix: even with ok drone skills it'll still tear stuff up, esp. if you have the foresite to fit blasters/rails in the tops.
My dominix runs 4x Anode/t2 Mega Neuts and a salvager and tractor. WIth perfect drone skills (except drone spec, that's 4) i **** out 680 or so dps on a three slot tank (for most missions) that laughs at 4's. ----------------- Friends Forever |

I think you're better off with a five t2 lights. t2 lights can kill 4 elite scrambling frigates, who knows but say about in 30 seconds each, without webbing them. I wouldn't want to see an elite frigate if i just had heavy drones.

A hyperion with an auxilliary nano pump rig is quite useful for overcoming the loss of a low slot compared to the Mega. A tracking computer in the extra mid compensates for the lack of a tracking bonus. And then fitting the ship is less of a hastle than the Mega.
The Mega as a pvp fleet sniper (something to which the Hyperion is poorly suited) or can be fit for pvp blaster. The hyperion is the better mission ship with the tanking bonus.
Highs - 7 425 compressed coil or better, and a drone link augmentor Mids - AB II or Lif, rest mix of Target Painter, Tracking Computer, Sensor Booster, Cap Recharger II Lows - LAR II, Damage Control II, the reamining 4 slots a mix of CPR II, Hardeners, EANM, Tracking Enhancer, Sig Amp, Mag Stab depending on the mission rats and specs. Drones - I use Medium tech II, they kill small stuff quickly, help dps with large stuff, and you don't wait forever for them to move to the target or run back to the bay if you mismanaged aggro and they are getting shot.
Rigs - mix of Aux Nano Pump, CCC, or even an explosive resist rig to fill that hole in the resists

I run a Hyperion setup, but it didn't become better for me than the mega for some time. At this point I get more dps out of the hyp with the 8th turret, and pretty much every level 4 is a cakewalk.
May just be EFT warrioring and my perception, but I can't fit a mega with similar DPS / tank and dominix just didn't come close. |

Been using the Domi when i started missions, with good skills, and i found the drone flight time from target to target really annoying, so changed to gunships.
Hyperion was ok, but kinda sucky damage:
H:8x 350mm t2 rails M:t2 track enh, any webber, 3x CR t2 L:t2 LAR, 2x t2 MFS, t2 EANM and 2x t2 armor hardeners Drones: 5x t2 light, whoever many heavy webbers can be fitted (cant remember exatctly, think it was 3) Rigs: Auxilliary Nano Pump and 2x CCC
Had no probs at all hitting anything, armor was fine provided i didnt get full room agro, and cap lasted for a looooong time.
Tried Megathron/ Navythron later, which was way better, then trained up for Kronos and i'm not looking back |

ok i might couse a litle panic but oh well :D
assuming all required skills etc etc is it valid to use 350's on a pvp fit? i dont care if thats hyperion or megathron (tracking on mega would help more ofcourse). loaded with faction AM range is about 20km +/- couple of kms and falloff
i know rails are reserved for pve and long range sniping but since 350 offer not_too_shaddy tracking compared to 425's and we can actually stay in range of those 20 km for a while could it be valid? it would reduce the need of web module maybe? afaik only gallente are forced to get in really point blank range thanks to low optimal+low fallof of guns compared other races (maybe not minmatar)?
disclaimer: i m not trolling nor am i skilled to use it (yet) - just an idea couse seemes when the nerf bat hits basic speed of all ships across eve bs fights might me more...static? as i said just an idea that comes from experience of being ganked while missioning - would have escaped but drones ate my last piece of hull
feel free to throw a rock at me :) |

Edited by: Queen Margaret on 19/08/2008 15:30:13 the problem is powergrid. if you run an afterburner, and a large armor repper you run outta powergrid for the guns. Even a full rack of 350's is tough with with an afterburner. Engineering V helps here.
also 425's use a ton of capacitor. Switching to lead can seriously help your tank.
One of the wierd things about the hyperion is the slow cap recharge time. if you cap it out.... you really have to wait a couple minutes to get it back up to 29% or so. |

Edited by: Mire Stoude on 19/08/2008 18:01:18 I tried the Hyperion for a few missions. I didn't care for it too much.
The dominix is a good mission boat. It is great because you can mix up the tank from "nothing short of a cap could gank this" to "Wow, thats alot of damage mods!" and still work nicely.
My setup was: 4x 425mm, 1x salvage, 1x tractor 2x Omni direct tracking (for drones), 3x Cap recharger II 1x Amarr LAR, 4x Hardeners/EANM combo, damcon II, magstab (I think)
It isn't a agro and forget setup, but it certainly made for much less boring missions. However, that being said... if you go Kronos you'll never go back to a Domi. |
