It is a lame tactic but, to be honest, don't you find it slightly suspicious that 2 Interceptors engage a solo battleship? I know interceptors are pretty good but they shouldn't be much trouble to an experience pvp'er.
If you're scrambled just point your ship to a nearby planet/stargate, unleash drones, and warp out when inty's are popped.
You lose 6 heavy drones - they lose 10M of ship.
At the end of the day, they could be sitting opposite the gate and appear just as quickly, although being logged off does mean the map doesn't update their presence.
CCP seem to be under the impression that the cloaking/warp-away thing prevents this but it doesn't. It just adds an extra couple of seconds to the exploit and miraculously doesn't become one

Also, something for GM's to note:
Generally the miscreants names don't appear on local until they're well into the warping procedure. It doesn't take long to travel 1 million km's at 3.0au/s so any advantage of the cloaking/warp-away feature is lost by slow updates to local list.

One BS and one ceptor vs 2 BS can be a BS pilot with balls on the other side :)

I dont see what the big deal is. This is just one of a very few ways to actually force someone to fight against odds in this game.
Proper use of scouts and having some anti-frig backup would go a long way towards reducing the threat of this tactic, not to mention if you run into 2 frigs sitting on a gate and you have a battleship group you dont really need to send everyone in to fight them. And if they stand and fight against you obviously something is wrong. +++
It's called "low security space" for a reason. |

Edited by: BobGhengisKhan on 03/06/2004 19:59:48 It should just take a minute and a half or so to log in if you are not docked, during which time your name appears in local, but a special icon or something is next to your name to show that you are not a threat yet
I haven't seen this lame **** used in like 5 months, but if people are starting to do it again, the half-way fix they implemented needs to be changed for the better
It's a ****ty thing to do, and it ruins gameplay

I agree except for one thing:
Logged out people don't show on the map.

The time-delay would have to ensure the person DOES warp back to where they logged though or else the log-out cowards will have a field-day by logging out while cloaked
So, perhaps, the answer is to have an uninterruptable warp set in motion which doesn't activate until x minutes have passed from time of logging on.

Originally by: Waagaa Ktlehr I've been in contact with GMs and this has not been classified as an exploit, so feel free to use it in your wars / griefings / whatever:
You need some interceptors / frigs with warpscramblers, an enemy at a gate and a bunch of people logged off in a system next door.
Engage the enemy at the gate with a few ceptors/frigs and a bait battleship. When they start shooting back, warp scramble your enemy and log on your backup force.
Let the backup force jump in and kill the enemy. This tactic has been proven very effective on the battlefield and is accepted by the GMs.
I don't think this is "good" behavior, but it's a very effective tactic.
i have seen a certain corp use this tactic in tartejeven. They have their main force logoff at the gate and leave scouts to roam through the systems next door until a target is found, then they login and jump.

What's the problem here? Bring your own ships to lock and take out these bait ships then hope to be done by the time re-inforcements arrive and for there to be plenty of miscommunications.
A fleet of only battleships deserve little else.
