Fun. miners-you can: switch, rob, wardec, nerf, scam them, buy below market, pirate them on their way to sell. mining < trading, ratting, manufacturing from market bought minerals, they still wont go away |

The great thing about EVE is that it has many things that keep you going.
I for one enjoy amassing wealth and then splurging on fancy equipment that I'll never actually put to good use on the battlefield.
But I also enjoy the nearly incapacitating adrenaline rush of getting into a fight every so often. I don't know what it is... my hands just shake and I can't handle it! I've only ever won a couple fights.
And of course, being able to interact with other people in such a fantastical environment.

I like to know that I have just completely outmanuevered, out thought, and out fought a whole group of human beings, and they are now trying to figure out how to run from me.

To kill Gallente!
But my goal is to get a kill, and then another kill after that. And then maybe go into 0.0 space. How did it go so wrong. |

Lately, greed and skill points to fly new stuff. Lag strangles enjoyment from pvping in any sort of group setting, I mostly just want to start slinking around in force recons trying to see how much pandemonium a single person can cause.

What motivates me in EVE?
Well, frankly not a lot lately.
The game has changed a lot and CCP as a company has changed a lot. Where as before they were nerds who sort of winged it and tried to have fun with their clients/customers, they now probably have a HR department, spirit-killing powerpoint presentations, "vision-meetings", marketing drones and all that crap.
I'm sure what they are trying to do is get the game to a "broader audience", "enhance the brand", "embolden the user" and shit like that.
Realistically, they are killing the game like so many MMO companies before them.
Me, I switched my two chars, from credit card to timecards and if I don't have enough ingame money,I'll just let them lapse.

to keep getting better at what I enjoy doing, there is always the promise of that extra 5% somewhere :)
and the fact that this is many games in one, explore one week, mission the next, produce the week after, goof around the next week, thats why it takes a long time to get bored and lack motivation

I'm motivated by the fun in pvp and carebear tears. Other than that I can't stand to play to make ISK or to just sit around and do nothing...
If my guns aren't firing I'm not very motivated to log in ------------ CCP > Let's play the nerf a race game! Next up minmatar! |

Originally by: Skywalker Simply question, what in eve motives you ?
You got any goals that you think is unusual ?
I suspect isk is the most common motivator for many pilots. But isk is usually a thing you need to achive your goals.
Fun. ISK is a way to have fun, but ISK does not motivate me.
Fun is:
- Being a squad commander in a larger fleet
- Shooting starbases while defenders are activately defending, and the fight is fair
- Operating starbase defenses, fair fight or not
- Running missions in a gang (agent missions, exploration sites, low level, high level, whathaveyou... if it's in a gang, it's a lot more fun than solo)
What's fun once in a while but is unfun when done too often:
- Grinding for ice or ores (mining, looting missions/ratting)
- Scanning for exploration sites, safespotted players, etc
- Camping stargates
- Setting up and managing research and manufacturing jobs
- Laughing at newbies that die to stupidity (even myself a few times)
- Trying to gank people minding their own business in lowsec
What's not fun:
- Managing your skill training so that you don't miss a beat if you cannot login when your current skill ends
- Grinding for ISK
- Lagging in massive fleet fights
- Crashing to desktop
- Setting up ships
- Hauling items to and fro
- Setting up a proper defendable deathstar
- All market transactions: buying, selling, trading
- Getting cynosural fields in place for common trade routes or relatively safe midpoints

Dude, the cake...
I am also motivated be a desire to make people cry IRL, make them quit EvE and drink their e-sorrow via the series of tubes called the Interwebs. At least, that's what internet psychologists keep telling me...
