Btw, if anyone wants to convert screenshots into a more organic picture then try sketch effect
It can make some pretty good pictures.

I dunno; I kinda like Murder Ones approach but I don't personally think it's better; it's just different. I know I'd prefer the first one as a desktop wallpaper as the blur in the second grabs my eye too much, and in the wrong place; you also can't see icons over it properly.

On the flip side, nobody but artists will be able to appreciate the corrections that I've made or be able to understand why they were suggested in the first place. All the laymen out there will always focus on the wrong things, being easily dazzled with lens flares and filter effects.
Ok friend; don't take it personally - that's a very arrogant retort right there. Beauty (and indeed aesthetics) is in the eye of the beholder; I liked your rework, but it didn't fit on my Desktop the way I appreciate it. But by all-means, if you can show me some lens-flare that looks good with icons over it ... be my guest. *shrug*

I thank you for the criticisms even though I disagree with some things. Constructive C&C is always good and appreciated.

I don't like these filters for some reason. They look too artificial to me.

I agreead with your criticism of the original piece, but your redo i thought was badly composited as well. however that pales into insignificance next to your ludicrous assertion that only artists can appreciate art. What a ****.
attitudes like that are why I stopped doing literary criticism, in the end it's just a big circlejerk.
if people likes it, they likes it. good enough.

That's not what I said. What I meant was, regardless of whether someone likes it or not (I still like the original piece, despite it's technical flaws) that someone not trained in the construction of images won't even know something is wrong or perceive it as incorrect, and thus won't appreciate the difference between a better composed piece.
As an example- the 'compositing': of course my compositing was terrible. It was 30 seconds per part. The whole point of the exercise was to show composition, not compositing skills. To wit: people are focusing on the wrong things. They're judging what they can perceive as flawed and only that, and won't find anything wrong with things that are flawed, but they don't perceive it as such.

murder one is correct. With all respect to the OP (it IS a cool pic, thanks for sharing!), there are composition issues. There needs to be way more contrast in color and positioning of the ships. The redo went a long ways toward pointing those out. murder one wasn't saying that no one but artists can appreciate art, but simply that there are some technical issues that are preventing the piece from really "popping."
Meteor, I highly suggest you post this in the "Critique Center" forum at conceptart.org. You have some great stuff to build on; they will help you really push the piece a little more.

Like I said, I appreciate the C&C and agree that the composition could be better! Wasn't expecting critics about the contrast though, so I'll be looking for that in the future
However like I said, it was a comission. In addition to my work (where I really have to excel and I do post on cgtalk and conceptart for C&C, they're always good) these EVE pics are comissions - I finish one, move to another, because it's how I make ISK. That means I need to finish them fast, preferably in less than one day.
I'm happy that people liked it though. Nobody commented on the pink thanathos though
