They resisted bravely, but there was no hope. First the shields went down. Then we broke through the armor plates. And then there was Light.
This is one of my latest and favorite EVE Artworks done. For the past months I've been living off doing artworks (I work as a digital artist IRL so to me it's more like a hobby) and renders of EVE Stuff for ISK.
The scene was comissioned by a Goonfleet member and as you might recognize, the exploding ship in the background is a Typhoon, or the rests of it. The universe is inspired in an EVE background, but repainted. I like to painfully paint each of the stars, but I still want to improve my technique.
I have been doing these all the time lately, but decided to post here for a first time to see what's the reaction if it's good I'll post then my Pink Thanatos for fun . I'm also considering opening a website for EVE Artworks and comissions, since I'm about done with my EVE Screenshots gallery (got what is probably the last update ready, with drones and the Hel mothership).
Hope you enjoyed it. Thank you for seeing. C&C appreciated!

Very nice!!
The background is a bit bright for my taste though. I think it if would be toned down a bit the explosion would be even more dramatically

Funny how tastes differ, I found it to be too dark. I was actually playing around with it, since I wanted a background with that "EVE" feeling but I never have the courage to lighten it up too much.
Thanks anyway :)

Art Critique:
There needs to be more contrast, the background is too bright so the ships lose some definition. You need to pick a focal point for the piece, depth of field wise. The positioning of the two ships relative to the exploding ship don't provide a good sense of scale and perspective as their fighting each other for control of both.
While you did blur the ships a bit it looks more like you're trying to simulate motion than depth of field, neither of which is working very well. There is too much lighting on the ships from the foreground. The main light source needs to be coming from the explosion and illuminating the ships from behind. A much darker background would provide more contrast to the explosion and allow the eye to focus on it better.
The image is too bilaterally symmetric with the explosion basically right in the middle of the frame, which really kills any sort of motion and dynamicism in the piece. I'll see if I cant chop it up in photoshop a bit and try and edit it a bit to show you how I might improve it, while still keeping all the elements.

Its nice to see somones business more profitable than mine, I dont earn any isk for any of the ship designs Ive done, but really the sisters dont have isk to spare on such luxuries.
Great work, proper positioning of objects of interests and good balance between the objects, quality of models was at a professional level, framing may need a little hint but this is a non issue most of the time.

Verry nicely done, I take it you did this in MAX juding by the xplo?
I personally think the explosion could use a little lovin tho, I've never been a fan of the explosion plugins. I think it would look even sicker if u took the model (looks like a phoon?) and butchered it up into a few different objects, and then made it look like its breaking apart, and use volumetrics for the explosion and flames.
Donno how easy that is to do in MAX tho, i've always been a Lightwave3d man my self.
Great stuff, looking foward to seeing more.

That's what I did. The explosion you see is a composition of three different renders with a 60k poly models. If you just run a plugin it will look very different.

EDIT:
Five minutes in photoshop. Nothing I could really do to fix the perspective as the ship's axis are different from each other, and that's all you really have to go on for depth and vanishing point. My paint over looks like ass, but I'm just trying to demonstrate overall composition, lighting, perspective and so on, not a finished piece.
REDO
Looks nice but now the exploding ship looks like an exploding coke bottle
