For the AUSSIES....Spoke to iinet again, and received disinterest. Rang Optus, and they'll deliver the new modem and connection in 10 days. Spoke to an Eve corp director that has been connected to Optus for 11 years without issue.....that's good enough for me. 20,000 bps ADSL with 20 gig Fussion Plan for $59 pm for the first 6 months. Goes up to $99 after that, but you can change plans, and will know your own usage by then.
Cheers.

Same problems here.. Sydney area, on iinet, can't connect to EvE except for a brief period this morning. Also, the EQ2 patcher program (LaunchPad.exe) won't run at all, but since there hasn't been an update to that game since I last played, I can bypass the patcher and log in just fine to play.
I haven't bothered ringing iinet (yet), as it's a sunday and I'm sure it's just the knuckle-draggers working now. I mean, face it, if you can't even manage to get yourself a job where you have Sundays off, how can you be expected to fix a slippery ISP problem like this? ;)
Seriously though, this would be a tricky one to diagnose on their end, surely, as the whole rest of the 'net seems to be working fine for me. Browsing (obviously), email, Guild Wars, Warhammer Online, etc, etc. The only 2 things not working are EvE and the SOE Patcher.

Rung iiNet. They apparently have no faults and have no clue what's going on. It was a helpful chap I spoke too, and he says I should go bug Eve people, since it may be on their end. -------------------

I am giving it till Monday night for it to be sorted one way or another.
If it cant be fixed or isolated, I will move on to another ISP and see if that works. It does look obvious that it is something that iiNET has done, but they cant see the problem because it is possibly something they removed. In the end it does look weird that all iiNET Eve players all of a sudden at the same time have the same disaster.

I live in China and my connection has become very unstable all of a sudden. Of the four to six clients I run one always dc's and lags enormously while the rest suffer no lag and are fine. This is a problem affecting East-Asia and Australia now so there is definitely a problem.
I am reinstalling EVE for the third time in a few days and going to change the port. I just hope this helps. Farjung is my God |

Same problem here, after third installation still no Prefs.ini. Is this file some mystical thing that is rumoured to exist but has actually never been seen by anyone? I think I'll go looking for Bigfoot, not only will Bigfoot be easier to find but might also know where the Prefs.ini has gone to. Farjung is my God |

I also rang iinet (at 1 am, Ohh my wife was sooo happy)and they did claim that there were no problems. But they have to say that :). its good to see that we have someone on the inside and i am looking forward to updates from EBANK. I changed my port number in the PREFS.INI file and that did not work but when i changed the target in the shortcut it worked brilliantly and am now back online. Can someone tell me if i can put the same info into the Ventrilo target to get it to work again. The only thing that seems to have been affected by this is everything I do with an american connection. I cannot log into the american servers on Trackmainia either.

Originally by: Elessina I have the same problem, and am also with iiNet. The workaround of chaging port numbers worked for me, but the method of changing ports which was linked above didn't work (i.e. the prefs.ini editing method).
Here is what did work for me:
1) right click on your EVE desktop icon 2) select properties 3) edit the box labled "Target" to look like this "C:\Program Files\<your eve directory>\eve.exe" /end /server:87.237.38.200:3724
Good luck.
Adding that line did not solve my problem unfortunately. Farjung is my God |

Hi all,
I spoke to IINET earlier who said they were aware of the issue, and that it was impacting more than one gaming service (although they were not very specific about the other games affected).
I have had limited success with alternative ports with 2 out of 4 machines working. I took my laptop to a mates place who also has IINET and had the same problems (meaning I can stop screwing with my router settings now).
To make life easier I suggested that IINET put up a support note on their status page (which they said they would get on), these are the links I am following (along with this thread).
IINET Network Status Page Whirlpool Thread
My guess is that this will magically fix itself some point in the next few days with no explanation forthcoming..

Edited by: cleocat on 17/08/2008 09:19:58 I am also with iinet and am having the same issue. No issues with the net apart from not being able to play eve.
So disconnected my adsl modem, and hooked into iinet via dialup, same thing time out. No issues with the net apart from not being able to play eve.
Disconnected from iinet, reconnected using dodo dial up got into game no problems.
So it seems to me that the problem is iinet, but then I am no "IT" informed type person.
Both dialup connections were done on the same computer, using the same phone line and modem.

Also on iinet from Albany (WA)
I have noticed the when logging in and running a ping test just as eve is about to finalise authentication it drops a packet.
I now currently can not login port change or not as of DT 17/08. |

Edited by: Ishmael Cord on 17/08/2008 13:09:14 I'm on iiNet in Perth here. Unable to logon to EVE since this morning, just get the window saying "Authenticating" which hangs at 100%. EVE has been very laggy when connecting from home for several days now, often to the point of unplayability. Thought it was my PC, but seeing all the other fellow iinet customers being hit with this, I guess it is the service after all...
Tried the fixes listed, to no avail. Hope this gets sorted soon, got corp stuff to sort out
EDIT: I can confirm that it is a problem somewhere between iiNet and CCP. Just logged on using my Hellstra 3G card from work, connects no worries at all. Bloody iinet.

Hey guys. Speaking from iphone so please excuse typos. I done some testing with one of the affected players and removing port blocking in toolbox seemed to resolve the issue.
Instructions for doing so: 1) browse to www.iinet.net.au 2) enter user/pass and click toolbox 3) scroll to account tools for your DSL plan 4) in dropdown select port forwarding 5) disable port forwarding. Apply/save 6) remove power cord from modem 7) wait 5 minutes 8) reconnect and eve should be fixed
Now port blocking from iiNet is for your own protection and it stops common threats from entering your system on regularly used ports. Anyone using this workaround should be using their own firewall / av protection and does so at their own risk
There may be a proper resolution forthcoming however so far it looks like this workaround works.it should also allow our guys to determine the source of the problem.
Anyone affected please confirm / deny if this resolves the problem.
Kind regards Richard

Hi Ebank,
Thanks for following this up, unfortunately port blocking has been disabled for some time on my account, so no luck there. (As a side the account is configured for a reliable connection, not super speeds).
Thanks CPAS

I've never had port blocking on for my iiNet Account. I seem to be accessing Eve again without too many issues. My ventrilo is more of an issue, but seems to have got progressively better.
I'm hearing that other seemingly random ISPs are being affected as well. It looks like on of CCP's ISP's peers is throttling traffic. iiNet might want to look at re-routing traffic through different peers to see if they can resolve the issue. I don't have any difinitive prrof of this, but it has happened before with other ISPs. Direct contact with CCP might also be a way to resolve this. ______________________ Isn't it time you learned to fight back? Agony Unleashed Home of the PvP University.

Cheers for looking into it mate, glad to see someone at iiNet is relatively on the ball. Your solution is impossible to test, however, due to the fact that iiNet's account tools seem to be dead. As is the phone support. What's going on over there?

Haha yeah yeah. I'll be back soon, just getting some other games out of the way first!
Just test-connected up to EVE from here at work, seems to be OK. Had no timeout problems with auth, trace routes to the server seems to be returning OK.
Anyone affected, if you try to trace route to 87.237.38.200, what happens?

I have to say that I've had few issues with iiNet in comparison to other ISPs (and I've had a few). The fact that we've got some Eve Community members on staff and helping out does increase my level of confidence that this will be fixed.......I'm starting to think that in this case iiNet might be on the bad end of a very long stick with the real issue lying further upstream.
